“Sadly I was unable to play the DVDs I had taken for us to pass away the evenings.”

This was because the DVD player had no remote control so only those DVDs that did not have a menu could be started by the limited controls on the actual machine. Of those we were able to attempt to view some played OK.others did not as the DVD player was of the lowest quality available. We told the owner about the problem but the only response was "the remote had been lost some time ago" In other words hard luck, I am not going to do anything about it. For me this spoilt the enjoyment of the ...

For me this spoilt the enjoyment of the holiday. Also the one shower (not in the en suite) is very old,and can only get the water to tepid, not hot,and the water pressure was so low it made it difficult to wash shampoo out of ones hair.The towels were also very thin and coarse,nothing like the soft and fluffy type the majority of people use.

Callinish was spotless very comfortable with everything you needed to make your holiday a home from home. The beach was about 10 mins walk away and Oban about 9 miles away.

Really well equipped, warm and cosy. Garden is a bonus, totally enclosed, so children and dog could be let out with no worries. Owner is very welcoming and friendly, as is her dogs. An easy walk takes you to the beach, which we visited every day. Hope to have a return visit next year.

Anthony's sister is writing this review: Wonderful environs. Very friendly owner with warm welcome. Her pet dogs reflected owners warmth. Beautiful welcome of Shortbread and wine in the fridge and flowers in the bedrooms. The amount of books and DVDs helped wile away the evening after the days adventure. Food from various chip shops and restaurants were amazing. ( The family heartily recommend Yu Wu a Chinese Restaurant near the Oban Docks and swimming centre named Atlantis. Mum and I also recommend the Boho Brow Bar for a bit of inexpensive pampering!) The showers were easy to use and comfortable to stand up in and, I also was pleased to see that hairdryers were provided - though I did pack my own just in case as the last place we stayed did not provide one. A special word goes out to Tilly and Brodie - the most loveliest (aside from my own one of course!) dogs in the world who helped my stay be more fun.

All ground floor, this Benderloch cottage has three bedrooms with the double having an en-suite shower room; whilst a kitchen, a dining room and a spacious sitting room complete the accommodation.

Outside this cottage near Oban is a patio and shared use of the owner's garden, where you can sit and relax in tranquil surroundings after a day spent exploring the area.

The nearby village of Benderloch has a grocer, a garage and a cafe, with several hotels and restaurants within a short drive.

A five minute walk from this Benderloch cottage brings you to the beautiful sandy Tralee beach which is the ideal place to unwind whilst you watch the kids build sandcastles.

There are many attractions in the surrounding area; visit the Scottish Sealife Sanctuary at Oban, or even take a day trip by ferry and visit Mull, Iona, Staffa, Coll and Tiree.

There are also plenty of opportunities for cycling, fishing and of course, walking.

About the location

BENDERLOCH

Oban 7 miles.

The village of Benderloch lies on the north side of Loch Etive in the West Highlands of Scotland, and forms part of the Lynn of Lorn National Scenic Area. Next to the coast and surrounded by spectacular scenery and views, Benderloch is served by a general store and two restaurants, a tea room and also boasts a Nature Reserve and forest walks. A short drive north is Castle Stalker, dramatically rising out of the water and well worth a visit, while Ardchattan Priory Garden, dating back to the 13th century, has neutral soil and a temperate climate, which allow many fascinating species to grow. With the busy town of Oban only 7 miles to the south and the Inner Hebrides only a ferry ride away, there is much to see and do in this beautiful part of Scotland.
