“We arrived to find a lovely gesture of a bottle of wine and biscuits waiting, to this lovely Chalet.”
Views were absolutely amazing and such a peaceful quiet area which was settling for my autistic son. We very quickly met the owner, she was very helpful with enquiries about local wildlife as I do professional photography and was keen to get to some amazing spots quickly.
Ferry port was very close, can walk, but we took the car down to the car park and then got on as passengers only, as most of the tours were literally a 10 min walk from Tobermory Ferry Port.
First night, we had the pleasure of looking at 3 Golden eagles, thanks to the owner showing us where they are, also lots of Buzzards within 5 minutes.. Hundreds of Deer if your prepared to go out about 5.30am in the summer and the lighthouse is worth a visit..
If catching the Ferry to Tobermory we recommend Sea Life Surveys and definitely recommend Ewan at Nature Scotland
We do recommend this Chalet and we have nothing negative to say about it but we would like to put out a few points to anyone hiring it as a precaution, because once your there, its pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Theres a good selection of DVD's, but we recommend you take your own as well, Co-Op Tobermory, sale the latest DVD's from £9.99
I think the only thing that could probably improve it, would be to have wi-fi.
ADVISORYS
1. Get your shopping on the way, we were fortunate to buy an electric ice box that plugs into the car and got our Asda shop for the week 4 hours prior to arriving. The nearest supermarket is co-op Tobermory, we didn't visit the local post office as it was old fashioned in the way that Wednesday and Sundays are closed and its a long way just to get some milk.
2. Take a mattress topper if you don't like hard beds.. I get back trouble and appreciate a hard mattress, but found the double bed too hard and unable to sleep, however the bunk beds were fine.
3. Airer, blessing to have a washing machine, but seeing as it rains more than shines there is no airer to dry your clothes.
4. Storage for food.. All the cupboards are completely stocked up with utensils therefore we had to use underneath the breakfast bar to store all tins etc..
5. How to get there... the map clearly indicates that it is on the junction to the ferry port, this is not true and apparently tourist information get this issue all the time finding it.. go past the junction, carry on down the road and you will see a war memorial on the right hand side after the cafe with the large teapot sign on it..the entrance is right just after the war memorial, generally there is a large red warning cone by the gate.
6. If coming from the South, save your self 4 hours journey and book a Ferry from Oban well in advance...Corran is great to cross, and the views are amazing going that way, but you can save a lot of time with the short cuts through Mull
