“A lovely cottage in a secluded setting within the castle grounds.”
Comfortable, well presented and well equipped cottage with lovely elegant living /dining room. The cottage had everything that we needed and was a great base for exploring the Ayrshire coastline.

“My first impression was ‘wow’ what a lovely place to relax and it is.”
However, as my partner is disabled I thought it would be ideal, I think I may have been so pleased with the idea of a wet room, I missed what wasn’t there. There are loads of glasses, cooking pots etc but basic stuff is lacking. No wooden spoon or bowl and 4 spoons, 3 forks and 2 knives along with crockery meant I had to keep washing up. There is a dishwasher. Why would you want that for so little? Would be better utilised as a washing machine. In the bathroom, there is not so much as a hook to hang your towel. I didn’t risk using the shower for my partner as the slate tiled floor was too dangerous. The whole bathroom floor got wet when I used it myself. There were no cleaning materials in either the bathroom or kitchen other than hand wash and washing up liquid. Good job I took my own but most places leave you something. I had enquired about a raised toilet seat or shower stool. Neither of these were available. In these days of inclusion, that was surprising. We did enjoy our holiday despite the challenges. I just think for what we paid, the facilities could be much better with a little thought for less able bodied people and perhaps most people eat out on holiday or take their washing home. I will still always use Sykes. Anywhere else we have been did not disappoint. No WiFi either which possibly means I will face a big bill for data usage.- Mrs Cowan, June 2021
“Kitchen equipment slightly underwhelming, especially with more of a need to eat in at the moment.”
No bread knife or wooden spoon for example.- Mrs Rolley, June 2021
“Lovely cottage with amenities and facilities.”
Quiet and tranquil grounds for walking with the dog.first class castle grounds for peace and quiet.- Mr Orr, May 2021
“Beautiful surroundings, very relaxing, the estate manager was very helpful.”
The cottage was well equipped and comfortable.- Mrs Colden, August 2020
“Beautiful peaceful setting and grounds.”- Mrs Wilson, August 2020
Our cottage was well equipped, clean, quiet. Bed was very comfortable. Building was very warm. Richard the caretaker was available and very helpful. We enjoyed our stay tremendously and would definitely come back and stay at Conclaird Castle Cottages again.- Ms Zbytniewski, October 2019
“The cottage was in need of a good clean.”
Spiders and cobwebs in all the windows ,dust under the bed and swarms of flying ants .- Mr Parish, June 2019
“The directions to the property are incorrect.”
You have to go to the double green gates to get entry, not the single green gate. The owner has repeatedly tried to get you to correct this information, but it has not been done.- Mr Mair, October 2018
“We thought that items like cutlery/plates etc were rather sparse and there were no wine glasses-I went to supermarket to buy some!”
! The arrival arrangements were not good,we were never told about gates to castle that automaticly opened when you approached close and we thought you had to have a code when we saw the code mechanism on the side, and we wasted a lot of time having to ring you and get instructions after driving for 4 hours, not very pleasant!! and not the only ones.On the whole we enjoyed the holiday and found it very relaxing and peaceful at the castle grounds.- Mr Cooper, June 2018
“After a few challenges in terms of arranging to get the keys the cottage itself was lovely and in a beautiful quiet location.”
Well equipped for cooking and a a good size shower though the cottage itself was a little dark without the lights on during the day. But the surroundings were stunning - even saw a young deer in the grounds. A few small things would have made it perfect - 1st the bed -made up as 2 singles - and the mattresses on both moved around making it uncomfortable to sleep on for the first 2 nights until we discovered they could be zipped together! The taps on the bathroom didn’t work properly but again were fixed . The only really thing missing was access to WiFi. Would recommend the Kirkmichael arms for delicious food- Mrs Johnson, May 2018
“Although this property was well located, in pleasant grounds, had good quality fittings, the actual requirements for self caterers were lacking, the inventory needs checking.”
We had to buy cleaning clothes and frying pan, drunk wine from tumblers, had three table knifes and teaspoons, 2 mugs (two others = one was dirty despite cleaning, another badly cracked, These were reported on the first night and removed but never replaced). Disappointing and indicative that Sykes do not undertake random inspections.- Mr Cane, May 2018
“The cottage is in a beautiful spot and is so quiet and peaceful.”
The grounds are lovely to walk in. The local village of Kirkmichael is excellent, for food at The Community Shop and the Kirkmichael Arms public house. We encountered one problem (light bulb) and Richard fixed this very quickly. So want to return to Duck Pond Cottage. Thank you!- Ms Mountford, April 2018
“The Duck Pond Cottage was incredible!”
It was such an amazing location and it offered such a comfortable space for my wife and I. It was spacious enough for two people and it was fully stocked with everything we would need. It worked well as an operating base to see the rest of Scotland as well. We drove a great deal of the British Isle and kirkmichael served as a great place to do that. We are also some of the only guests to have stayed in the cottage from the United States so if you're in the states and you're thinking about taking a vacation to Scotland, be sure to give this location a shot. Cloncaird Castle is also really beautiful and walking the grounds is a peaceful and relaxing experience.- Mr Baines, April 2018
“The only reason we would not book again is we felt we saw most places around in the week we had.”
The cottage was perfect in every way- Mr Smith, June 2017
