“A very lovely, comfortable, private and tranquil place to stay.”- Kerry, December 2019
“Brilliant location in the beautiful Clonclaid Castle grounds made really welcome by Richard.”- David, October 2019
“This cleverly converted coach house with a slightly unusual layout was bright and spacious and also very cosy and comfortable and equipped to a high standard with everything you need to self-cater.”
Ideal for a peaceful and relaxing break whatever the weather and a great base for exploring the surrounding countryside in this stunning area of Scotland. It is a privilege to be able to freely explore the grounds of Cloncaird Castle in which the property is located and although it feels like a remote location, there is a pub (Kirkmichael), a very good quality restaurant (Minishant) and a Co-op supermarket (Maybole) - all within a 20 minute drive. There is no wi-fi but mobile phone signal is good. There are great walks in the nearby Galloway Forest Park and a favourite to visit was Culzean Castle (a National Trust property with free wi-fi in the café).- Paul, August 2019
“It ticked all the boxes.”
Beautiful cottage, beautiful location. definitely somewhere to get away from it all.- Kevin, July 2019
“This was an amazing holiday, the location is fantastic and the accommodation top notch for a quiet getaway from the retrace.”- Gary, June 2019
“Loved it, did not want to leave.”- Janette, April 2019
“Cottage was lovely and the location.”
It's a shame that on arrival it was very stressful. The 2 numbers listed for key collection are not contactable. The message inbox is full. No one gets back to you. The gate on arrival didn't open and the keypad didn't work. We eventually found another gate which did work. The grounds keeper wasn't expecting us knew nothing of booking. The first booking they had down was in March. Luckily we could stay and the cottage had recently been cleaned. He advised that people have trouble contacting the owners and that the numbers given by sykes are useless. We heard stories in the local pub in Kirkmichael of people who stayed previously trying to climb the gates just to gain entry as they had the same problem. This needs to be rectified so more don't experience this at the start of their holiday. After this experience we tried to put it behind us and enjoy the rest of our break. The grounds keeper was great and the cottage and location is brilliant. Just a shame about the arrival- Rachel, February 2019
“The directions to the cottage could me more detailed especially when its pitch black and raining.”
Even in the wording of the directions when you are in the grounds is confusing. Apart from that, a lovely little cottage out of the way for a relaxing weekend.- Alex, November 2018
“A lovely cottage, setting.”
Quiet. It would be beneficial to correct the entry to estate by stating, enter by double gates not single.- Nicola, October 2018
“Absolutely stunning - very relaxing and would definitely recommend”- Catherine, September 2018
“Great location,friendly owners,property in castle grounds,very quiet.”
A real place to get away from averything, but still near enough to local places of interest.- D, July 2018
“Lovely cottage in a beautiful setting off the beaten track.”
The other cottages were empty when we were there so it was very relaxing, quiet a great experience staying in the grounds of a castle. We had missed the fact that there no internet so we had to go to the village pub to log on and plan the places we wanted to visit.- Robert, March 2018
“We have used Sykes Cottages many times, this is the first time that we were never contacted by the people managing the Cottages!”- John, October 2017
