  • "Elder Cottage is every bit as comfortable and well equipped as it is advertised."

The location is perfect for exploring the west coast. Just around the corner is a great pub serving a lovely choice of meals. A perfect place to stay….we will return!

  • "Had a problem with leaking shower but was fixed on the same day."

Enjoyed our stay, found it very quite and relaxing and plenty of information in the house about things to do in the area. Lounge chairs were really comfortable. Dining for 4 may be a little restrictive but perfectly adequate for us two.

  • "Lovely cottage set in a beautiful location, kitchen is well equipped, tv could be bigger."

Bedroom very comfortable. But the bathroom! The shower door did not close, but it didn't matter as the shower just dribbled out so showering was a real pain and you would not get the floor wet even if you tried. Otherwise we had an amazing time, thankyou.

Everything went smoothly, and the welcome pack along with cottage and local information were thoughtful touches. It all went by far too fast, but we cannot fault the service from Sykes Cottages.

All you need is there, Diane is a wonderful host. The beds are really comfortable, the shower is great, the kitchen is well equipped and the information book Diane has made about the house and local area is one of the best we have seen! Less than 2 minutes walk to the local pub/shop in the beautiful marina. We definitely recommend Elder Cottage if you are planning to stay in this area.

Hi - cheers for your feedback - there is a cafetière - it must've been hiding in one of the cupboards. And thank you for the suggestion re the toast rack. x Property Owner

  • "Very nice cottage."

Clean and good facilities. Good value. Plenty of parking space by the marina. Lovely location and very good pub in the marina (maybe their food could be a bit better quality, but not bad). Plenty to do in the area but it helps if you travel around a bit, as is normal in The Highlands.

The accommodation was clean and welcoming and the kitchen well stocked with a great range of cooking utensils. The welcome pack of the coffee, tea, jam and Gigha milk was a lovely touch. The cottage was warm and comfortable with the wood burning stove. We really enjoyed out stay at Elder Cottage.

  • "What an amazing little cottage."

It is in a beautiful setting and is exceptionally well appointed. One of the best we have ever stayed in. The neighbour's were very friendly and welcoming too. There are a couple of lovely walks from the doorstep and it is ideally located for other local walks that arenjust a short and very pretty drive away. We received such a warm welcome with home made jam, teas, herbal teas, coffee, milk. Lovely little touches around the cottage make it feel very homely and very relaxing. A real gem! Thank you Diane for a perfect stay.

  • "Cottage was so relaxing ."

It was immaculately clean and comfortable . We were grateful for the lovely welcome pack . It sits within a beautiful village with many different scenic walks straight from the cottage . The garden to the rear stretched to open countryside and we enjoyed a relaxing seat with a glass in hand - pure bliss ! We walked to Lord of Isles pub on many occasions and met many friendly locals . Seating outside takes in the surrounding water and the marina . We are keen to go back for another stay and will look to book Elder Cottage !

Cottage was small and cosy but had the right fittings for two. (I think it would have been awkward with more than two.) Would happily stay again.

  • "Well equipped cottage, with sumptuous towels & comfortable beds."

The village has a pub and small shop, and there is a cafe/eatery in the posh watersports centre. But the best thing is the tranquility and abscence of ambient noise, after living in a city, and the friendly laid back atmosphere. Has to be said we were lucky with the weather but its in a microclimate anyway. Stunningly beautiful coastline.

  • "The photographs on the website appear to have been taken some time ago and whilst I appreciate that changes will have had to have been made due to COVID restrictions I feel they don't provide a true representation of its current condition."

Only one sofa in the lounge, very rickety bedside tables with no storage capacity and put you up beds in the second bedroom. The furnishings and floor coverings were tired in particular the kitchen floor. Whilst the property had been cleaned in preparation for our arrival it could do with a good 'spring clean'.

Why do so few Scottish Cottages have bread bins? Elder Cottage is one of a good number of cottages I have stayed in that do not possess such a basic facility. There is no public access to the marina and the boats berthed there tho it is easy to view the marina as a whole from the adjacent parking area. Regular boat tripsaround the nearby Islands operate from the marine a a day are well worth going on.

About the location

CRAOBH HAVEN

Ardfern 2.5 miles; Oban 22 miles; Lochgilphead 17 miles.

Craobh Haven is a small village situated across the water from Shuna Island on the scenic west coast of Scotland approximately 20 miles south of Oban. The village which was built in 1983 as holiday village and marina, consists of four small terraces of houses and some further cottages located around the edges. It has one pub with a small shop for essentials called The Lord of The Isles. Situated on the Craignish Peninsula the waters surrounding the area are extensively used for sailing. Nature lovers and birdwatchers will enjoy the vast array of birds and wildlife which can be seen in this area and there are a number of spectacular walks for visitors to explore the surrounding countryside. There is a second marina at the nearby village of Ardfern. Ardfern is an ancient settlement, with evidence of a population dating from 600 AD when contemporaries of St Columba were here, plus there is a ruined church on the peninsula dating from 12th century. Ardfern village today contains a pub, shop, craft centre, tea room and a large marina. The towns of Lochgilphead and Oban are well worth a visit offering many shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. The surrounding scenery is what makes the area, with the hills, lochs and mountains offering spectacular walking, plus there is fresh water and sea fishing nearby to delight the angler. Craobh Haven is a lovely base for exploring the area.
