  • "This was our second time back to nether stravannan (last time we stayed north house) and we came back because we loved it so much the last time."

The space, combined with the location and view are perfect for a relaxing get away. The house was spotless when we arrived and the kitchen is well kitted out. We will be coming back!

Some of us would have liked WiFi and everyone wanted a better phone signal or a landline.

  • "It was a great holiday cottage."

Plenty of space and well equipped. Fantastic views and great location to explore this lovely little island. Ample logs for the burner which was much appreciated and the cottage was exceptional value. We would definitely stay here again without hesitation

  • "3rd holiday in Nether Stravannan South, so clearly we like it very much."

Disappointed with the large increase in cost this year, especially since a considerable reduction was offered to late bookings! Many very likeable aspects such as the liberal provision of logs for the splendid fire, the numerous excellent towels, the most pleasant and helpful house manager, the well trimmed huge lawn etc. One or two aspects require attention. The absence of soap/shampoo holders in the showers was a real source of frustration, with soggy soap resulting. See to this asap!! One other point - the patio door requires the attention of a joiner. Having to kick the bottom of the door to open it was not good enough in a house of this price.despite such comments, a great house in a lovely island.

  • "This was the third year myself and family booked both lodges."

We always have a great time here. We managed to do some sightseeing this year and were not disappointed, some beautiful places to visit. Lodges have everything you need and beds are so comfy, showers are amazing. We were in the South lodge and kids loved it with the table tennis upstairs. We had quite a few tournaments. The weather was dry and windy but didn’t stop us playing rounders outside. Fantastic time had by all. We will definitely be back.

  • "Have stayed here on numerous occasions over the last 6 years but we feel they are not being maintained the way they should."

Floor tiles in the bathroom with yellow and black tape on them to warn of cracked tiles. The tiles were broken when we last stayed here about 14 months ago. Tiles moving under feet when you walk on them. Grouting black in showers. Guttering broken and down pipes hanging off. Dead bird hanging out of a nest a few feet from the front door. I will be putting comments on trip advisor.

About the location

Port Bannatyne 2.2 miles; Kilchattan Bay 7 miles

Although its castle dates from the 13th Century, the seaside town of Rothesay became very popular as a tourist destination in the Victorian era when many Glaswegians would go ‘doon the watter’ (down the River Clyde) and across on the ferry to Bute. Today there is much to do and see on this beautiful island which is very accessible by ferry crossing, either the 35 minute trip from Wemyss Bay or else the shorter 5 minute crossing to the north of the island from Colintraive. Visit the castle ruins in the centre of town, enjoy the stunning scenery with coastal walks or on one of the cycle routes around the island and visit historic Mount Stuart House as well as its superb gardens. Why not try one of the island’s three golf courses or chill out at Scalpsie Bay and watch the seals, with stunning views across to Arran?
