  • "Grigadale is a lovely place to stay."

Very cosy and comfortable with ample space, very well equipped kitchen and stunning views from every window. The lighthouse, Portuarik and Sanna all easily reached on foot and Kilchoan only a 10 minute drive. I loved my stay there and wish I could have stayed longer.

Thank you for your kind comments. They are much appreciated. I hope you will return some day. Property Owner

  • "Lovely house, great location - so quiet and peaceful and just a short walk away from a beautiful beach."

About 20 minutes drive is the picturesque Sanna Bay which is worth a day out. We'd also recommend the lighthouse for great views, fishing (with helpful resident dogs!) and a spot of lunch in the cafe! The house is remote (which we were looking for), so I recommend taking most, if not all, provisions for your stay as you can't just pop out to the shop to pick up something you forgot!

The scenery is stunning, the wildlife abundant not forgetting the peace and tranquility. Our thanks go to the owners Martin & Bridget for sharing their wonderful home with us and to Davie at the lighthouse for sharing his knowledge. See you next year we cannot wait. Graeme & Martine

  • "My wife and I had a week at Grigadale House in August and we absolutely loved it."

The house is attractive, comfortable and has everything you could want. Lovely books to read. A kitchen with every appliance we have at home. Comfortable furniture. Space. We really felt at home. It is beautifully maintained and was spotless when we arrived. It is a great location. Secluded and peaceful but only a short drive to great beaches, Kilchoan (and access to Mull), wonderful walking etc. We hope to return soon. It is wonderful.

I by mistake booked travel insurance for a cottages holiday in Scotland living in the same country - obviously a mistake! I informed Skye’s about the mistake but was told it’s my too late for me to be reimbursed. Kind regards Mr Klaus Overbeck MPhil FRCS Consultant surgeon

  • "The payphone is still not working properly."

£1coins are falling right through. The plates and cutlery drawer were dirty again. I had to put all the plates and cutlery in the dishwasher when I arrived. Apart from that the house is fabulous. The beds are comfy and the view to die for.

Many thanks for your feedback. The phone will be replaced as it has already been reset twice, obviously to no avail. There is plainly a problem with the dishwasher too. There could be several causes. They will be investigated and the dishwasher replaced if required. I'm glad that you had a good time at Grigadale despite these issues. Property Owner

  • "I am reluctant to say too many good things because it will be more difficult for us to book again."

The cottage met all our requirements, it is clean, ideally located for us i.e. remote with no neighbours (only sheep) the facilities are very good and modern. The walks from the cottage are very good and we were able to go on challenging walks with varying scenery etc. We found the locals very friendly and Davie was very cheerful and helpful. The lighthouse is a good visit with good coffee and eats, also the climb to the light provides a fantastic view. As a result of the lighthouse being recently modernised the light is no longer visible from the cottage at night. I would rate this cottage as one of the best.

  • "Grigadale House is one of the loveliest holiday cottages we have stayed in."

We would highly recommend it for folks who want a complete get away. The house is very well equipped, comfortable and warm. One of the highlights for me was the Jacob ewes and their tiny lambs in the paddock in front of the house. Views are amazing and a walk to the nearby lighthouse is well worth it. There you will meet Davie who runs the cafe at the lighthouse ( scrumptious cakes) and also manages Grigadale House for the owner. Brilliant! Would love to go back one day.

  • "Grigadale on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula is as close to the perfect detox / chillout holiday from the stresses of modern life you could wish for."

The location is so peaceful with some of the most awe inspiring landscapes, seascapes and geological interest you could imagine. This has to be one of the most unique places in the UK and with the amazing Grigadale cottage as your base you cannot fail to be impressed and relaxed in equal measure. The accommodation is first class as is the service from the local agent Davie who ensures you have everything you need to support the house, with the nearest shop around 5 miles away in Kilchoan you do have to plan for your vacation and bring with you as much as you can. The house facilities support this very well as it is superbly provisioned and with a view like there is from the kitchen window it's actually a joy to cook. The vistas from all sides of the house are stunning, your nearest neighbour is at least a mile away and you have completely open and unspoilt 360 views. This is a superb base for chilling out, walking, climbing, photography or anything where you crave the outdoors or some peace to be creative. We have stayed twice already and have another 3 stays booked already. You do have to be mindful of the local roads, they are single track, so if you plan to head out in the car to visit Sanna, Portuairk (both walkable though), Swordle Bay, Kentra Bay, Fascdale, Glenborradale which are all stunning do plan appropriate time to drive safely and enjoy the draw dropping scenery en route. You can easily head of further afield to Mull on the ferry from Kilchoan and Skye is also doable if you wanted to tie in a visit there too. But to be honest, with 1,800 acres of it's own land you wont be short of places to explore on foot including Corrachadh Mòr the most westerly point of mainland Great Britain. All in all an amazing place to stay and such a laid back pace of life you'll not want to go home.

Kilchoan 5 miles.

This impressive and welcoming detached farmhouse is located at the far western end of the stunning Ardnamurchan Peninsula, the most westerly point of the British mainland, and makes a truly perfect holiday home for families and friends.

The house itself is in a wonderfully scenic location with views of Loch Grigadale and the surrounding hills and a small distant view of the sea and the northern tip of Coll where the lighthouse can be seen flashing at night.

This is the only light to be seen, apart from the stars.

A driveway from the single track road to the lighthouse leads up to the house where the bright and comfortable accommodation is set over two floors.

The fitted kitchen is extremely well-equipped and leads through to a magnificent wood floored dining room where meals can be enjoyed together around the table.

The sitting room has a welcoming open fire and a door that gives access to the garden.

There are three bright and sunny bedrooms on the upper floor complemented by two bathrooms and the views from all windows are simply delightful!

It will be difficult to leave this wonderful house with its generous supply of reading materials and high level of comfort.

Outside there is a family-friendly garden and picnic area.

Here you can sit and relax whilst soaking up the beauty and tranquillity of the area and perhaps even enjoy some alfresco dining on a pleasant evening.

Situated in 1800-acres of its own land which stretches from the ridge of hills behind it to the coast a mile to the west there is plenty to explore on your doorstep.

The land incorporates about two miles of coastline featuring two small sandy beaches (only one suitable for swimming), two rocky bays, low-lying rocky shores and cliffs ranging from 250 to over 400 feet with magnificent views to the islands of Muck, Eigg, Rum, Canna and Skye to the north, to the west Coll and even the Outer Hebrides on a clear day, and to the south the Treshnish Isles and Mull.

The land also includes the most westerly point on the mainland, Corrachadh Mor, slightly to the west of Ardnamurchan Point and three lochs.

Why not visit the famous Ardnamurchan Lighthouse, just a mile away, and treat yourself to a snack in the friendly tearoom?

The lovely sandy beaches of Bay MacNeil, Portuairk and Sanna are very close by too, and you may have them all to yourself!

Wildlife lovers and walkers will see deer, pine martins, otters and eagles so always have your camera at the ready.

About the location

KILCHOAN

Tobermory 7 miles (via ferry).

The pretty village of Kilchoan is the most westerly village in mainland Britain, situated on the stunning Ardnamurchan Peninsula and surrounded by magnificent mountains and breathtaking coastal views. The area close to Kilchoan offers a choice of quiet sandy beaches and an abundance of wildlife with eagles regularly spotted overhead. Until 1900 the village was only accessible by sea, but now access is via a single track road that leads through some of the most beautiful scenery in Scotland. The village has good local services including a shop, pub, restaurant and community centre. From Mingary Pier there is a regular ferry service across the Sound of Mull to Tobermory which gives the opportunity to explore the islands of Mull and Iona. There are wildlife excursions on land and sea and the new Ardnamurchan Distillery and Natural History Centre are added attractions. A short drive away is Ardnamurchan Point complete with its own lighthouse and visitor centre which is well worth a visit, or perhaps you simply want to sit on the glorious Sanna Beach and enjoy the views across the clear blue sea to the islands of Muck, Eigg and Rum?
