“Everything about the cottage was excellent.”

During these trying times with COVID-19 the cottage was safe and inviting. We had a wonderful time exploring the local area and the views from the cottage. This are second time at Kilmartin Glen and we would recommend it to anyone who is looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the cities and towns. Enjoyed the many walks and lochs near by.

The cottage is comfortably furnished, the decoration is lovley - the owner made it very christmassy for us - one will find everything what is needed to feel at home, the cottage was very clean, the kitchen well equipped and the bed truly comfy. We would recommend it to our friends and familiy and we hope we can visit soon again.

“Eleanor met us when we arrived, she showed us all around the cottage which was superb.”

There was a welcome pack of tea,coffee and some little treats like Scottish shortbread and tablet. The views from the windows was chocolate box beautiful and constantly changing. The light over the hills was beautiful and made for many photographic opportunities. There were many birds visiting the feeders out in the garden and binoculars were provided together with bird books for identification, a lovely touch. There were books telling the history of the area and an extensive file of tourist info in a folder to help plan excursions. If you like walking there are many beautiful walks in the area including the glen right outside the door with its abundance of archeological sites. All together a super place to spend a week or two whatever the season.

The cottage was perfect; it was renovated so it had all of the modern conveniences with the original wood floor. The cottage had everything we needed and more. Eleanor was very kind and so easy to work with. And she left us a basket of goodies for our stay. We really loved the location of the cottage. The view from all around the cottage is stunning. We were within walking distance to the burial sites and we really enjoyed walking through the beautiful fields. And it's located far enough away from busy towns but close enough to the Kilmartin hotel and pub where we ate often. ;-)

The location is quite special, and as it is far away from the bright lights of cities and towns, the view of the stars on a clear night is something that my son and I will remember for some time. Eleanor the owner is a lovely smiling person; so, all in all, it is likely that you will enjoy a marvellous stay should you make a reservation - we did.

“A perfect base to explore the West coast of Scotland.”

This cottage is situated in the middle of Kilmartin Glen. We were welcomed by the owner, Eleanor, who showed us around the accommodation and we were immediately pleased. Eleanor is very helpful and friendly and the cottage is fully equipped as a home not just a holiday cottage, with absolutely everything that anyone could possibly want, including washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, hairdrier, books, games, etc. There was even a bottle of Merlot and some shortbread biscuits to welcome us. The heating was good and we didn't need to use the woodburner. It is easy walking from the cottage to explore the nearby cairns and standing stones, walking past the fields of sheep and tiny lambs bouncing around. From here we drove to Oban one day, across to the Trossachs one day and to the Crinan canal another day. We sat at the dining table in the evenings and watched a pair of eagles soaring over the mountain ridge.I would definitely recommend this holiday cottage as there is nothing negative to say about it.

“Perfect cottage - first looks I fell in love!”

The owners were absolutely lovely and was really welcoming - they even left me a small bottle of red and white wines and Scottish shortbread. Overall, the cottage was exceptionally clean, warm, and comfortable. The stove was a great feature and added to the charm of the cottage. The cottage is situated in a great location with ancient archaeology and other interesting sightseeing attractions within a small walk. The nearest shop is 7 miles away and the nearby town of Lochgilphead was full of attractive shops, restaurants and friendly locals. I would also recommend going to Ardrishaig (9 miles down the road) and visiting the Rumblin Tums cafe. Superb food!! I will definitely return to Cran Teille. And would recommend it to anyone - of all ages!

“Perfect cottage in an incredible setting.”

The owners left a small bottle of red and white wines and some Scottish shortbread as a welcome gift. The cottage was clean comfortable cosy and warm. The light burning stove was a great addition and added to the charm. The cottage itself was well presented and had been finished to a high standard. The cottage is situated in a great location with ancient cairns and standing stones within walking distance. The nearest shop is 7 miles away and the local village of Kilmartin has a nice pub offering good food and drink. There are numerous walks and bike routes from the cottage. To be located in the middle of such history within walking distance was invigorating and added to the special nature of the stay We will definitely return to cran teille. And would recommend it to anyone that is wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

They are ideally situated to visit the archaeological treasures in the surrounding area and a number are within walking distance, as is the very interesting Kilmartin Museum. Lochgilphead is the nearest place for shops and services (8 miles). The Kilmartin Museum has an excellent café and you can also get food at the Kilmartin Hotel.

“We chose the cottage as my husband has mobility difficulties and it is all on one level and has ramp access.”

. It also has a walk in shower, which we were even able to fit our portable shower chair into. Ian had no difficulties getting on and off loo, in and out of chairs and walking around the cottage, but some problems getting out of the bed until we used his outdoor walking frame which made it easier. We didn't mention this to the owners as it was our fault, as we have a "bed lever" which we hadn't brought! Owners were pleasant, helpful but not intrusive. The other reason we had picked this area is that it is renowned for it's wealth of stone and bronze age sites, which are nearly all within a short distance and easily seen or accessed from the roads. The local archeological museum in the village is excellent and serves good food, as dopes the village pub. Another bonus was the ease of access to coastal and canal areas, with attendant seafood restaurants! Arduaine gardens are also nearby and largely accessible.

They are in a good position for exploring up and down the west coast ( as we did) . One good drive includes going through Glencoe valley. The scenery, within short drives, was stunning, we also enjoyed the rhododendrons which are grown in nearly everyone's garden and roadsides near the houses.

Victoria Hall Cottages

Kilmartin 0.5 miles. Situated off the road between Lochgilphead and Kilmartin, these two cottages have been converted from what was once the village hall to form one wing of the owner’s property. The owner has retained the original village hall floor throughout both properties, creating an attractive feature as well as a nod to the history of this superb building. Set in the idyllic surroundings of Kilmartin Glen, the two cottages have been superbly renovated to a high standard and offer the perfect location for a tranquil countryside break. Each cottage has a conservatory with seating and also outdoor seating with superb views along Kilmartin Glen and shared use of a lawned area. The village of Kilmartin is half a mile away along a footpath and has a hotel and a museum highlighting some of the many incredible archaeological discoveries made in this part of Argyll, such as burial cairns, rock carvings and standing stones. There is superb walking and cycling from your doorstep, as well as fabulous fishing on nearby Loch Awe. Oban is only 30 miles to the north and is a wonderful jumping off point for the Inner Hebrides, plus the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park is only an hour’s drive away. These two lovely cottages offer not only great quality accommodation, but a setting that is very hard to beat.

This mid-terrace cottage offers views along the glen from the conservatory, which has been crafted onto the side of the building, ensuring you won’t miss any of the superb surrounding scenery.

Sleeping four in a double and a twin bedroom, this lovely cottage has a kitchen off the sitting room and a woodburning stove, which adds an attractive centrepiece.

KILMARTIN

Crinan 7 miles; Lochgilphead 8 miles; Tarbert 21 miles; Oban 30 miles.

The village of Kilmartin sits at the heart of Kilmartin Glen, one of the most important prehistoric sites on the Scottish mainland. In the area there are rock carvings, standing stones, burial cairns and the remains of the Iron-Age fort at Dunadd, the home of the first kings of Scotland. Kilmartin is home to a church, pub, a castle and the Kilmartin House Museum with visitor centre next door, housing a café. The town of Lochgilphead is eight miles away, offering a good selection of cafes and small shops selling a range of goods, foods and crafts, while the village of Inveraray, home to the Duke and Duchess of Argyll, is within driving distance. Close by is Crinan Canal, which is surrounded by the stunning scenery of Argyll and Bute. From end to end the canal is nine miles long, and its sheltered waters make it an ideal place for beginners and the more experienced paddlers to explore. There are beautiful walks to be enjoyed throughout the area from Kilmichael Forest, to those at Port Ann and Dunardry and up over the hill from the stoney beach at Crinan Ferry, from where you can look out over Jura and north towards Mull. A trip to the Scottish Beaver Trail in Knapdale Forest also provides a fun family day out, plus the fishing village of Tarbert gives you superb access to all the ferry points across Kintyre that travel to Gigha, Arran, Islay and Portavadie.
