  • "This place is amazing."

Within the 30 mins of arriving at The Stables we were already looking at booking another stay! The property is well maintained and because of its rural location it is extremly quiet and peaceful. Our dog enjoyed his walks along the bank of the River Ayr and also at Ayr beach which can be reached easily by car. We were there over Easter and the owners had left some chocolate eggs in the property for us on arrival which was a very thoughtful touch and was really appreciated by all the family.

  • "We have stayed in The Stables and the property opposite The Barn, on a number of occasions."

Fabulous welcome pack on arrival. This time we visited just after Christmas. As we drove down to the property the 2 cottages ( and owners property) were decorated in beautiful icicle Christmas lights, which looked magical and very festive. The weather was very mild for the time of year when we visited, and although the heating is controlled by hive, via the owners, there are thermostats on most of the radiators, so we could control the heating in the rooms to suit us. The property is immaculate, and every thing you need. Beds are very comfy. Very peaceful and relaxing stay, with lovely walks near by. Owners are nearby if you need them, but keep themselves to themselves. We are looking forward to retuning again soon.

Everything we could need plus very generous Welcome Pack. Due to Covid restrictions we never really met the owners but would have liked to have thanked them in person and congratulated them on what they have achieved with the Stables conversion. The accommodation is squeaky clean and extremely comfortable - you can have no worries there. The cows give you a friendly welcome too. The Black Bull in Tarbolton is great value and Dumfries House and Culzean Castle are within easy reach; with great beaches on the Ayr coastline too. We left a bottle of red wine by mistake - hope the owners have enjoyed it!

We moved it forward to this year & we are so pleased we did. After staying in "The Barn" several times, we tried "The Stables" in 2019 & loved it just as much. Thus we booked it again. Facilities are really good and it's superbly equipped. We find it comfortable & relaxing. Views over the fields are great, hares, deer & pheasants are often there. The wonderful owners had to be cautious re: covid, but everything was well managed. Return? If course we'll return!!

It really is one of the first cottages (and we’ve been in a lot) that was a home from home, so welcoming and cosy. The only downside is some of the track down can be uneven in places but it’s not a race track just take it steady and enjoy the scenery and wildlife

  • "Lovely and clean cottage, comfy beds."

Hosts have had to remove some of the knick knacks to make things easier to clean but it's still really homely. Garden small but very neat and tidy and dog really enjoyed it. Woodland walk beside river is about 100 yds away - clear paths, lots of squirrels and deer. Wellies or boots useful if there's been a wet spell and there's a stile to get across (dog only worked out how to get over it without being lifted on the last day!). Lovely quiet location - very peaceful. Enjoyed hearing the cows in the field up the road and saw my first yellowhammer bird on the garden fence. Welcome gift was brilliant! Homemade bread, homemade marmalade, butter, eggs, milk, oranges, tea and coffee, and chocs. Breakfast sorted! We had a small problem with the shower drain the first time we used it. We let the owners know (they're on site) and they came straight over and fixed it - great service! They're there if you need them, but very unobtrusive. Warning: The garden is fully fenced but the fence is fairly low (about 3 to 4 ft). It kept my dog in but may not if yours is a jumper! Noticed other guests had moaned about the surface of the lane on the farm. Just take it really slow (less than 10 miles/hr) and it's fine.

  • "My wife and I have just returned from a week at The Stables."

The quality of the décor, furnishings and facilities is outstanding, and we had a very comfortable stay. A wet week in October was not the time to enjoy the outside space. My view is that although the property is advertised as sleeping 6, it is ideal for 2 with plenty of space, and would also be fine for 4. I would imagine 6 would be cramped. Essentially, all my thoughts are positive, except for one. The Stables is approx. 0.6 mile from the road, down what for the most part is a farm track. The sections at either end are surfaced and not a problem, but the middle part most certainly was during our stay. A very uneven track, covered in mud, water, and general debris, and many many craters which were filled with muddy water. Only by driving very slowly (slower than walking pace) were we able to negotiate this without almost certainly damaging our car. When I drove away for the final time I felt euphoria at the thought of never having to return. I am sure a robust 4x4 or a Jeep would be fine, a tractor even better, but if you have a car of mere mortals (like us), then I suggest you find somewhere else.

This peaceful setting in the countryside exceeded our expectations, with the help of the property being exceptionally kept internally and all around. The local area is ideal for walking and having pub food to hand just a few miles along the road at The Failford Inn (best steak pie ever)!! Mr & Mrs Forbes the owners were very friendly and helpful, and loved having people to stay at their property, especially sharing local information on places to visit. The only concern we had was the private road leading in to the farm. Although it is only for half a mile, the road turns into more of a dirt track. The car struggled to get in and out of the place, especially when we had heavy rain some days. So you really need to take it slowly driving in and out of the place. Apart from that everything else was great. The cottage and surroundings are beautiful and it has everything you need.

Beautiful scenery, easy access to the local towns & villages and best of all just co comfortable. It was, by far, the best cottage I have stayed in. Unfortunately we were unable to meet Bob & Linda, however, they catered for every need and kept in touch Via email. They were able to answer all of our questions & provided the best advice. The welcome basket they left us was the icing on the cake, so sweet and heart warming. The cottage was so comfortable, we barely left. The kitchen was equipped with everything we could ask for and then some. We made great use out of all the board games and the DVD collection, we barely touched any of the entertainment we bought with us. The beds were extremely comfortable and the bathrooms were spotless. Even the recycling system was on point! I always like to leave a balanced opinion of places I visit, however I am seriously at a loss to think of anything negative. Even the people in the local villages were friendly & charming! A Big Big Big thank you to Linda and Bob for everything, we will definitely be back and will be recommending the cottage to all our family and friends!!
