  • "Only problem we had was that we couldn't use the bath as the water was brown and discoloured, this was reported on the Tuesday and nobody came out to sort the problem so we left on the Friday."

Handle on the ensuite toilet was broken from the inside so we had someone stuck in there for 20 mins until we let them out. Took our own TV as there was only 1 in the cottage. We love this cottage and have been several times and always constantly ask for the following. Large fridge freezer in utility and also more cupboards for food items Also adding some nice pictures of bute around the cottage.

  • "Great accommodation and beautiful area … very bright, spacious, clean and comfortable, and wonderful location and views."

One comment - we missed a telephone signal and WiFi in terms of being able to check routes, opening hours, menus, weather, local tourist information and facilities … and on top of this we were very surprised that there was NO local information provided in the cottage. The guests’ information folder was very limited, focused just on Covid precautions, and not even a visitors’ comments book where we could learn from others’ recommendations of places to visit, where to eat, local walks etc. (Also very disappointing that booking through Sykes felt a bit like being second class citizens … our neighbours booked direct via Mount Stuart (who own the properties) and got a bountiful welcome pack of goodies, games, info etc … we just got a pint of milk that was off!). But … all this was of minor consequence - we had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend the cottage and the area to others.

  • "Lovely property, very spacious and well appointed."

Beds were very comfortable and bedding was high quality. Decor was tasteful. We had a wonderful stay and loved its proximity to the beach. It was perfect for our family get together. Only a few minor gripes - it would be really handy to have hanging hooks for towels in the bathroom and bedrooms. And the property is located close to a farm that breeds dogs - their hollow, lonely barks could often be heard coming from the barn they were housed in, which was a bit depressing :-(

!! Plenty of wildlife and stunning bays to just sit and soak up the Islands beauty, Ettrick bay was our favourite, and saw family of otters on the last day.... would well recommend this cottage and the small ferry ride (4 mins) over to Dunoon, the views are breathtaking on the mainland en route to it....would not hesitate to go back at all !!!!!

  • "Modern, spacious well equipped cottage."

Lots of space for our toddler son to run around. Short walk down to Scalpsie bay, great place for dog to run around and play on the beach. 5 mins drive to Rothesay. Half hour drive up to Colintraive, take the ferry across to the Colintraive hotel for fab food. Very welcoming. Also ate in Bonnie Clyde in Rothesay, again very welcoming and the langoustines and scallops were brilliant!

Our fourth year of visiting. Sadly our family were unable to join us with the new Covid restrictions.

  • "We couldn’t have wished for better!"

! The cottage was stunning and although rural, it was not far from the nearest town. We ordered a bag of vegetables and fruit from the estate which were delicious. It was a five minute walk to the beach and we watched seals basking there in the sun. There were plenty of walks from the cottage for our dog and the enclosed garden was perfect. There was one spot in the garden that had 3G so contact with the outside world was limited but not a bad thing!! We would definitely recommend this cottage.

  • "Beautiful location, Scalpsie bay we overlooked was stunningly."

The cottage was immaculate and it was reassuring that it had clearly had measure put in place re the Covid situation. We had one slight issue when the boiler stopped working however the caretaker sorted it within a few hours once I had contacted her. The island is stunning with amazing beaches and shorelines. We cycled walked and enjoyed a range of wildlife. The down side for teens was lack of WiFi however for adults it was bliss.

The views never fail to impress us whatever the weather. This was our third visit in as many years and we have already booked for 2020. Our piece of heaven. Just a little feedback - more toilet rolls (only 2 for 6 guests all week ) one dish cloth and one bin bag for everything for the whole week) Only a small point! Rather mean when paying quite alot of money.

  • "Fantastic stay in this beautiful cottage - the pictures don't even do it justice."

Lovely big open plan living and dining space, well equipped with everything you need. The cottage is easy to find and well located, just a short drive back up to Rothesay and there are great views with some nice walks nearby. It was nice and warm inside, in particular we enjoyed the heated floors in the bathrooms. There is no wifi and little to no phone signal (you may get some if you take a few steps away from the cottage - it has very thick walls!), but we enjoyed the opportunity to disconnect and forget about social media etc. Also note that if you visit Bute between October and the end of March most of the tourist attractions and some restaurants will be closed. We plan on coming back here in the future - no complaints at all and great value for money.

What more could you want ? It was perfect and I wish I was still there ...... The only thing that would have been helpful was a list of local numbers like the vet, doctor etc as our dog was stung by a jellyfish which was quite distressing and with a poor signal difficult to google numbers. But that is a very small thing indeed ! We will be back . It was worth the long drive from Bath .

  • "The cottage is perfect ,for having dogs as it has a fenced in back garden."

Really modern . A few things it could be doing with. At least 1 room should have king size bed. In the bathroom no were to hang your towels. No toilet roll holder. Also they need to have double the amount of dinner plates as they only had 6 . Meaning that you had to wash up every time . When we were there we didn't have any internet or wifi and phone signal doesn't exist. That's why they should also have a land line incase of any emergency.

About the location

ROTHESAY, ISLE OF BUTE

Port Bannatyne 2.2 miles; Kilchattan Bay 7 miles

Although its castle dates from the 13th Century, the seaside town of Rothesay became very popular as a tourist destination in the Victorian era when many Glaswegians would go ‘doon the watter’ (down the River Clyde) and across on the ferry to Bute. Today there is much to do and see on this beautiful island which is very accessible by ferry crossing, either the 35 minute trip from Wemyss Bay or else the shorter 5 minute crossing to the north of the island from Colintraive. Visit the castle ruins in the centre of town, enjoy the stunning scenery with coastal walks or on one of the cycle routes around the island and visit historic Mount Stuart House as well as its superb gardens. Why not try one of the island’s three golf courses or chill out at Scalpsie Bay and watch the seals, with stunning views across to Arran?
