  • "The cottage was cosy and clean."

Nice big garden, which was secure for our dog. Friendly owners who live nearby, so great if any problems. The welcome gift was lovely ( wine, shortbread, and nice treats) It was great to see the birds feeding from the bird table which was next to the kitchen door. Lots of local walks from the cottage. We had a very nice stay in Strontian.

Lovely garden and seating area. Had two dogs with us who enjoyed the garden which was secure. Local shop has a good variety of things as no main shops close by and the Ferry is not running so it makes it a long trip if you want to get anywhere.

Hi there Thank you for your great feedback, happy to hear you enjoyed the cottage and local surroundings. The Corran Ferry has now resumed service which is much welcomed with locals and visitors to the Ardnamurchan Peninsula. Elaine & Stephen Property Owner

The dogs loved exploring the garden , we found wonderful walks and beaches . We found the locals extremely friendly and helpful . Our only slight niggles were the ensuite sink due to its position was difficult to use , and the clothes wrack was quite flimsy for the weight of the close .

Had everything we needed , the attention to detail in making the cottage so clean and comfortable was exceptional. Right down to the gorgeous soft bedding fluffy towels and beautiful traditional Scottish hand soaps ( we bought some locally they smell so good!) The enclosed large garden was perfect for our two dogs and watching the wide variety of birds on the bird table each morning. The perfect base for travelling. It’s the most beautiful place well worth a visit everyone we met was very friendly and welcoming. While driving along the highland roads we saw herds of deer , seals in the lochs and sea eagles , foxes and woodpecker. The walks on the door step of this cottage were brilliant. The highland cows driving over heather bank were amazing! You can drive for ever in this beautiful part of Scotland and see the most spectacular views , wild life the lochs and snow on the mountains. I’d be more than happy to stay at this cottage again, there’s so much more to see and do in the highlands. We can’t wait to come back ! Thank you Elaine for such an enjoyable stay x

  • "The house was spotless."

Living room and bedrooms nice. Strange what looks like plastic stags head above the fire but that's a matter of taste. Now the rest unfortunately: House needs a bit of TLC small things like there's a bulb missing in the living room light fitting. The kitchen and bathroom (nice room) are dark The kitchen sink worktop has a cut out for a Belfast but is fitted with a countertop vanity basin with a pop-up plug not as high or expensive, so it doesn't drain properly because bits get trapped. Any water that goes around the edge ends up in the cupboard below. The worktops are wood and haven't been sealed so absorb water not very hygienic. The fridge had been turned right down and the light isn't working, so we were not sure it worked (it did when I turned it up). Inside top of microwave has a crust. No instructions for the cooker (it's complex) and a knob is broken. TV is run from the internet we could only get a few niche channels and ended up watching BBC iPlayer, a bottom end Sky package solve that. Outside, there is no proper paths to the door you have to walk across the grass onto some stones that were slippery, my wife went on her backside when we were packing up. As a CMIOSH I can say with an amount of certainty that there is no way the insurance company will pay out in the event of someone getting hurt when the owner has prior knowledge. Location is OK as long as you love driving (which I do) much of which is on single track roads, but you are in the Scottish Highlands so don't meet too much traffic. I hate to be critical it's not normally my way and in the greater scheme of things all of the above is not tragic and we enjoyed our stay. But the property does need some investment especially for the amount being charged in relation to similar properties in the area. Particularly as new luxury modern lodge parks are being built in the region.

Dear Guest Thank you for your constructive feedback, we take all comments in to consideration. The cottage is 130 years old and is by far not perfect, that’s what adds to the charm of the cottage and location. It’s a shame this was not the right property for you, the location and single track roads are exactly what makes the highlands a special place to visit, in particular the Ardnamurchan peninsula. If modern lodges are your idea of a great holiday then maybe that could be your next choice vacation. You are right, it’s not tragic, it’s our offering of a typical highland cottage that’s presents a warm, cozy, dry and clean place to stay together with a great garden for both pets and children to enjoy. We hope your next vacation is more suitable for your requirements. It’s a pity you didn’t mention any of the above issues to us on arrival, or before you left. Kind regards Stephen & Elaine Property Owner

After a day of traversing wild walking routes, curl up in the sitting room, presented with chesterfield seating in front of a woodburning stove and a TV so you’ll have no trouble easing into your evening.

Beyond here is the kitchen, amply equipped with all the necessities for preparing a home-cooked meal before gathering the family around the dining table to tuck into a sumptuous supper.

As the evening draws to a close, choose between the double and twin bedroom, served by two boutique style bathrooms, one with a roll-top feature bath and the other with a large walk in shower, enhanced with contemporary fixtures and tiling.

Take a refreshing drink outside and sit within the spacious garden, offering plenty of room to enjoy family games whilst your canine companion stretches their legs.

The village of Strontian offers a selection of hotels with fine dining and bar menus, along with a couple of shops for picking up any forgotten essentials.

Walkers will be in awe of the surrounding area; meander along the village paths leading up to the open moor and dropping down to the river valley or take a stroll along the idyllic shoreline where you can spot otters and sea eagles!

With Loch Sunart on the doorstep, guests can bring a small boat and take advantage of the local slipway and enjoy some watersports.
