Rhu is a welcoming village and historic parish resting on the east shore of the Gare Loch in Argyll and Bute in Scotland. The village became popular in the 19th century as a residence for wealthy Glasgow shipowners and merchants, with it now being a fantastic base for yachting, with a 235-berth marina and many yacht moorings on the sheltered loch, with the Royal Northern & Clyde Yacht Club being here too. The village is home to a lovely local shop selling all the essentials as well as two charming pubs and a coffee shop, providing all you could need for a self-catered stay. Enjoy a scenic stroll in the Glenarn Gardens, a sheltered woodland garden overlooking the Gareloch, here you can expect to find an enticing Himalayan atmosphere, famed for its collection of rare and tender rhododendrons. Visit the neighbouring town of Helensburgh for a wider selection of amenities and waterside eateries as well as a swimming pool, fantastic golf course in an idyllic setting, the National Trust wonder of The Hill House; a unique building with remarkable interiors designed by the internationally renowned architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his wife, the artist Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh. The quirky Scottish Submarine Centre is certainly worth checking out. There are two train stations offering you easy access to the surrounding towns and cities. Join the John Muir Way to make the most of your idyllic surroundings, a coast to coast walking and cycling route, spanning over 134 miles from Helensburgh to Dunbar, it offers the perfect way to explore the local area and beyond, or venture into the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park where you can enjoy a range of outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing, mountaineering, angling and more, with a trip on a loch cruise being a must.
