“Lovely bungalow in a great location, the Welcome pack left by the owner was very good.”
We really enjoyed our stay and will book again.
We really enjoyed our stay and will book again.
“A lovely cottage with excellent facilities.”
Newly refurbished to a high standard and close to the beautiful village of Kippford. We are planning to revisit next year.
“The bungalow was lovely everything is there that you want except the bed was so uncomfortable if your elderly with back and hip problems you will need to think carefully about staying here also the settees were very low and not comfortable to sit on.”
Its a shame everything else was perfect If the owner could sort these issues out at the bungalow it would be worth 5 starsThe owner left a lovely welcome pack and the dogs loved it also We would definitely return again if these issues got sorted.

We enjoyed a weeks break in a lovely well looked after bungalow and would definately stay there again And the welcome pack was much appreciated
“Excellent home with all my expectation met.”
Lovely location and we had a restful break.
“Our second visit to Stroma.”
Quiet location with a well tended garden affording privacy to the rear. Clean and well decorated interior. We did have a couple of issues with the heating and shower that Alistair did his best to resolve and future visitors should have no such problems with the heating now. It rained most of the week we were there and we hope the weather will be kinder if we visit again and we can get to enjoy the garden.
“Lovely comfortable house, very clean.”
Nice outdoor area.
“Fabulous. Everything we needed.”
We will return
“The cottage felt like it was situated in the country but was only a mile from the coast.”
“Great location right next to the cycle trail.”
..outside toilet and tap which was ideal for cleaning up after a bike ride. (Decent size shed to put the bikes in as well) lovely and quiet place to relax with plenty of wildlife right outside the door ,the binoculars at the property were great for getting a closer view of the deer without disturbing them. Only slight criticism is the beds are to soft for my liking but that didn't spoil what was a great place to stay to get away from the hustle and bustle of work...
“Stroma is a lovely bungalow a mile from Kippford, a beautiful estuary village, this location was ideal for us being just off the main road and in a quiet area with Dalbeattie only 3 miles away.”
The bungalow was comfortable and clean with all facilities you could wish for, the only advice we would give the owner would be to provide a chest of drawers in bedroom 2, a larger coffee table in the lounge and a tray in the kitchen. The only negatives were that the oven was very greasy and we had to give it a good clean before we were happy to use it and the beds were very low and soft, which may be a struggle for elderly people. The garden is not enclosed which was not a problem for our dog who never wanders but could be for some pets. The drive is large enough to accommodate 3 cars and there is an outside toilet which was very handy. We were visited by a red squirrel, a woodpecker and an assortment of wild birds, all very entertaining. We had an enjoyable week and would like to congratulate the owner who has put a lot of thought into providing such a lovely holiday home.
“A lovely clean, tidy and well presented holiday property.”
Very well equipped including a walk in shower, good selection of TV channels and private garden area with ample outdoor furniture if the weather is sunny. Great parking on the drive as well. A much appreciated welcome pack was a nice touch. The property is ideally located to easily get to Kippford, Rockcliffe and Sandyhills with their fantastic walks/coves and beaches. Larger towns with all the facilities you need are only a short distance drive away on good roads. The property was perfect for us so we are loathed to criticise but have to mention the double bed is uncomfortable as the mattress is far too soft and unsupportive.

Lovely cottage, excellent location for walking in the forest or coast, excellent facilities and welcome pack, cottage had everything you needed for a wonderful holiday
“Very clean, cosy & comfortable accommodation.”
Ideally placed for access to Dalbeattie forest, literally on the doorstep. Lovely coastal walks just minutes away.
“Great cottage in a good location.”
Lots of attractions within easy reach. Very cosy and warm and tne welcome pack was very much appreciated. Tiny critisism is that the beds are very soft and very low and could be difficult to get up from if you were elderly or infirm. We were fine though. It would also be really helpful to have had an information sheet with details of nearest doctor, vet, dentist. Nearest shops, petrol station, Take away, pubs, dog walks etc. local knowledge is always useful to have on hand. A visitors book is always a great source of information too. We enjoyed our visit very much.
“The cottage was lovely and clean.”
The owner had left wine and some food for us which was a lovely touch. The garden is beautiful and we were able to sit out which was a treat. The beds are very low and soft so not the most comfortable. The bedrooms are also rather damp even though we put the central heating on. The kitchen is nice but would benefit from more pots/pans and serving dishes as we struggled at times. The washing machine is very noisy and leaked so I feel maybe needs repaired or replaced. The cottage is in a nice, quiet location with ample parking. The wood burner was fantastic and there was a huge supply of logs.
“The holiday let was very clean and well maintained with a nice private rear garden with decking and furniture.”
Well located for the Solway coast and forest walks. We would have no hesitation in revisiting.
After several visits to the area we were really looking forward to staying here and we weren’t disappointed. The property is really nicely decorated and comfortable. The location was perfect for me as I love to mountain bike and the trails at Dalbeattie forest are literally behind the house. The lovely beaches at sandy hills and rockcliffe are a short drive away and Kippford is a 20 minute walk. The property is very well equipped as well and the owner is very friendly and helpful. Can’t wait to come back next year. Fantastic
“The bungalow was superb, the neighbors really friendly, and the location was excellent.”
We had a lovely week - Thank you.
“Location great perfect for walking cottage was spacious clean and equipped well my only gripe the beds were uncomfortable no dvd player or hairdryer.”
“We loved our stay at Stroma, the location was perfect for us as I love to mountain bike.”
A fire road into Dalbeattie forest is about 20 meters from the property. Great bike storage in the garage. The beaches are a short drive away and Kippford is a 20 minute walk. The cottage is really well equipped and nicely designed. We will definitely be back next year

About the location
Castle Douglas 6 miles; Kirkcudbright 13.5 miles; Dumfries 14 miles.
The attractive country town of Dalbeattie nestles in the south west of Scotland. The town sits within a wooded valley on the River Urr and provides access to the picturesque Solway Coast with its miles of beaches and pretty fishing villages. Dalbeattie is originally known for its granite quarry, which exported stone all over the world, most notably for the Eddystone Lighthouse and Thames Embankment. Today it is renowned for its outdoor activities with the world famous 7stanes mountain biking complex nearby as well as forest walks in Glentrool, where you can follow in the footsteps of Richard Hannay in The Thirty Nine Steps. Dalbeattie and the surrounding area offer panoramic views of the Solway Firth, the Lake District and the Galloway Hills. A great location, which has something for everyone.
