Clean and tidy and comfortable. Pub up the road, shop over the road. Bustling little place but not too busy. Easy parking on the road or in the car park. Plenty of local woodland walks and easy to get to the major sights. I didn't get to see all on my list so, at some stage, I think I'll be back.

Gatehouse of fleet is so lovely and this cottage is perfect location for exploring around the area. It was very clean and cosy. It was well equipped and very sweetly milk, wine and biscuits provided! We did not take our dog but it is perfect for a pooch as very close to the woods for walks. Would definitely recommend. Perfect holiday cottage.

We had a really warm Scottish welcome from the owner, who was really helpful. The location is excellent, with access to walks into the woods and to the beach. The village is peaceful and quiet, the locals are extremely friendly and welcoming. Great for dog walkers too. The only reason why I didn't give it five stars is due to the working business next door, as the business needed early access to their property.

The owners provided a friendly and helpful welcome with a pint of milk, a bottle of wine and some biscuits included. The kitchen is well provided with salt, pepper, oil, etc. There were plenty of towels and tea towels. Parking on the street was easy and there is a small supermarket just across the road. It was a great place to stay and we can heartily recommend it.

The accommodation was really clean and comfortable and the owner very welcoming, and a much appreciated welcome pack too. There is a small garage workshop in the courtyard which did tend to open up at 7 am so no need for an alarm clock as it is quite close to the bedroom window. All in all I would recommend, definitely had a lovely week there.

Very comfortable accommodation in which, everything worked. Good WiFi, smartTV, cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave, and well equipped kitchen. Right I'm the centre of Gatehiuse of Fleet, minutes walk from supermarket, shops, cafes, Mill, pubs and restaurants. Once inside, very quiet and comfortable location No allocated parking spot or garden, but even over a busy Easter weekend, we never had a problem parking on the street and there is a free car park opposite. There are parks and woodlands literally on the doorstep, so we did not miss a garden at all. Fantastic longer walks from from front door, so you needn't use the car at all if you don't want to go further afield. Very warm welcome and easy communication with the owner. Definitely recommended.

We very much appreciated the welcome bottle of wine and biscuits on our arrival. Very well equipped cottage and everything has been thought about for a comfortable and relaxing stay.. No complaints but only one bit of advice would be to have easy instructions on view for working the television, heating and cooker..

The accommodation was comfortable and warm. We were surprised that we were not allowed to pull up outside the cottage to unload. This had to be done from the nearby road. We never had any problems parking nearby and there is also a car park close by but this is not really suitable for loading/unloading as it is across the road through the town. This is not something the owner can change as the yard belongs to someone else.

It works really well for a couple or small family. It has excellent storage and has been really well thought out. The sofa bed in the lounge is very comfortable and easy to use. The owner had left lots of nice touches like wine, shortbread and fresh flowers. The owner is nearby and provides a lovely welcome and has lots of useful local information. The house is very central. Directly across the road is a lovely café and shop behind which is the local spar. Although no garden there is green space at the river, woodland walks and the local park are only a couple of minutes walk away. If you are here with kids then the Cream of Galloway outdoor play centre, Laggan Outdoor Centre and a range of pretty beaches are all within a short drive. About the location

GATEHOUSE OF FLEET

Kirkcudbright 8 miles; Newton Stewart 15 miles; Castle Douglas 15 miles.

Peaceful in its pastel colours, the small country town of Gatehouse of Fleet lies on the Solway Firth, in the midst of Dumfries & Galloway countryside, with good sandy beaches a five-minute drive away. The town was founded in the 1760s as a mill community, and today the nearby Mill on the Fleet - a visitor centre in a former bobbin mill - tells the tale of Gatehouse’s cotton-spinning days. Today, there are several shops in the town including a small supermarket, chemist, bank and Post Office, along with two book/gift shops, a kilt-making centre and two cafes. All four pubs in the town have restaurant facilities and welcome children. Castle Douglas, a 15-minute drive away, offers an extensive range of shops, Threave Gardens and boating on Carlingwark Loch.
