"Overall a good stay ."
Although warm days was cold at night and first thing inside lodge especially bathroom and bedroom.I did have to wipe marks of kitchen cupboards . Lovely position on park just a little dated in lodge
Thanks for your feedback. There is fire in lounge and storage heater to use when you feel need for extra heating.

"Site of lodge peaceful and quiet, surrounding area glorious."
Lodge itself overall poorly maintained, tired looking, unhygienic, poor cleanliness. Decking area full of cobwebs, green mould and algae, bird poo, dead plants in pots, seating rusty, discoloured, stained. Entrance step broken temp mend with gaffa tape, as is shower enclosure with hazard tape, mould and dirt ingrained in shower enclosure. Smoke alarms held on by blue tac as one fell off during our stay. Kitchen utensils pots and pans, glasses and cutlery filthy and requiring cleaning before use. Previous occupants food, slippers, toothbrushes and toiletries left in cupboards. Wifi not working as was television, sound only no picture ( known problem). Battery powered bedroom side light not working. Overall very disappointed as have used Sykes before, spent most of our time away from lodge and left early, Did not complain to Sykes or owner at the time as in my view to many problems and issues requiring solved and many of them already aware of by owner according to welcome book and cleaning schedule etc in folder. All above documented in various pictures I am able and willing to share on request with owner and Sykes, although I strongly recommend both require to visit lodge as my pictures and summary above are a true reflection of what we experienced and nothing like what you describe on your website. This customers journey was not a happy one. Mark and Fiona
Oh dear - after a very wet 2024 ,the lodge outside area has now been sanded and re-stained. Being, in the wilds, there are, I'm afraid, birds and spiders. We have everything cleaned at every change over but this does not preclude spiders from re-building webs or birds passing overhead. You must have been unlucky with the plants as they are now stunning. The seating has been updated.
Entrance step and shower both have hazard tape on as they could pose a slight trip hazard. Shower now deep cleaned. Smoke alarms all properly fitted. There was an extra one, over and above requirements, that has now been better secured.
Most guests leave crockery etc clean but Kitchen utensils etc are now double checked.
That cupboard has now been marked ‘private, as obvious to most guests it is the supplies cupboard ’. It contains some owner possessions and changeover essentials, toilet paper etc and complimentary food and drinks.
Wifi working 100% and TV perfect. If you had called Sykes or ourselves during your stay we would have talked you through any remote control probs / wifi problems.
Battery powered bedroom side light not working.
These are working perfectly as we write, so confusing.
Obviously quite a skewed view of things here, compared to nearly all our other guest reviews. But we do listen, and have rectified some of the complaints.
We continue to have a cleaning schedule checklist for the change over, so nothing is missed.
The lodge is now looking better than ever .
Sorry it wasn’t for you. Here’s hoping you find holiday happiness elsewhere.

"The location and venue nice."
Only rated as 4 stars because the double bed very uncomfortable. Was not able to log into WiFi. But my main feedback is in relation to it being pet friendly. I understand why you wouldn't want pets on furniture but it is not pet friendly stating aminals not to be left in the lodge on there own, so i was limited what i could do because of not being able to leave my dog. The site doesn't allow you to have pets off a lead to run about. Had i know about those points not sure I would have booked.
Hi, sorry you found the bed uncomfortable, all other comments from guests say bed and sofa very comfortable. The wifi is unlimited and instructions are in guest book .If you had contacted us we would have talked you through and remedied the issue. Dogs are allowed off lead in dog walking areas which is situated at entrance to park .Also deck is secure and dogs can roam free there. We do not allow dogs to be left alone in lodge in case of risk of damage and barking which may affect other owners.
Best Catherine Murdoch.

"Got exactly what we all needed."
A nice break away from our working lives and being able to relax in an extremely comfortable and beautiful lodge. More than enough space for my wife and I as well as our 16 year old son and 12 year old daughter and black Labrador. Picturesque towns a short drive away with all essentials catered for. Would highly recommend this property and Scotland in general, a beautiful place to recharge your batteries.
Thank you so much for your lovely comments. The lodge was left in an immaculate condition, which was very much appreciated. You are welcome back anytime to this peaceful part of Scotland.

"Nice place, very well equipped, a little tired in places."
Even with the blinds down and cutains drawn in the bedroom it was still very bright at sunrise.
As specified its a quiet site which I'd looked for, but found this a bit too isolated. A shop within walking distance would have been nice.
All in all it was a comfortable base to visit other places.
Thanks for your comments. There are shops in Whithorn, which is a 5 minute car drive away. Glad you had enjoyable stay.

"The location is lovely."
Unfortunately our hearts sank when we saw the caravan next door's motorhome parked a foot away from the side lounge window of the lodge. There was a really nice view from the decking of the fields to the left, but obliterated by the motorhome. The decking of the lodge was covered in dog hair and bird droppings, and a broken pot by the French doors also covered in bird droppings. The lodge has obviously been lovely at one time, but has an air of neglect about it, frayed curtains, dirty blinds and window ledges, fluff and dust behind the bathroom door, the oven and toaster were filthy, the kitchen cupboards dirty, especially the one under the sink. Utensil rack on the wall ingrained with grease. Dog hairs stuck to the valance on the double bed. No bedside lamp. Personal items, presumably the owner's, in cupboards and drawers, even shoes and socks in one of the bedroom drawers. Despite the property being advertised as having central heating the handbook stated that there is a fire in the lounge and a portable heater, and not to touch the controls of the boiler. All in all a total disappointment, made worse by the lack of attention to cleanliness.
Very suprised to read your review. You did not contact Sykes or myself during your stay to investigate/discuss your issues ,and remedy any problem.
1. The lodge does have central heating. It is timed to come on at 8am and 8pm,even though it is summer. There is also additional heating in the form of a fire in the living room and a portable oil radiator.
2.We are in a rural area and the swallows nest in our eves. Most guests enjoy the presence of these beautiful birds and the deck area is cleaned with every changeover.
3.The deck has a lovely view even with a car parked. There are 6 windows other than the side window overlooking the deck and view.
4. Although our lodge is pet friendly we have had consistently high scores for our cleanliness. You seem to be the anomaly here.
5. Totally disagree with your issue regarding toaster and oven as I personally cleaned the lodge after your stay and both were clean.
6.Mr and Mrs Marshall who stayed after you ,were so impressed by our (lovely lodge) and I quote, that they left a thank you card.
7 . The only personal item we leave in the lodge is the guitar for the use and pleasure of our guests. The shoes in the cupboard were from previous guests and we are awaiting instructions on how to return them.
A very perturbed Catherine Murdoch.

Lodge was better than expected and had everything we needed, except a measuring hug! The pictures don’t do it justice, very clean and tidy.
Park is small and no entertainment that we could see, so definitively not for young kids.
Thanks for your lovely review. I will check in regards to measuring jug . It is a very peaceful site. Glad you enjoyed your holiday.

"What a find we found in Roe Deer Lodge, from swallows nesting at the side of the lodge to the peaceful setting around, what was there not to like."
The owners had tastefully decorated the lodge with all the home comforts you would need. The surprise was the large shower unit - delightfully big for the size of the lodge. We had only booked for 4 nights but will be back again - it's an ideal location to explore and we did, although I would warn other avid readers on this as I succumbed to buying 10 books in my venture into Wigtown! Thank you too for the welcome pack - the snowballs were delicious!
Thank you so much for your lovely review, we are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Hopefully the swallows will be back next year, they are gorgeous birds. Thanks for leaving the lodge so clean and tidy. You are all welcome back anytime.

Can highly recommend the lodge. We have a little dog and the large decked area was perfect for her and there was a good dog walking area close by. Good sized main bedroom and 2 single rooms one a good size the other small but perfectly usable. Comfy couches in the lounge area and a good shower room.
