“A home away from home.”
The best way to navigate here is to follow your sat nav for 98% of the journey, once you get near to the destination switch the sat nav off and follow the signs. Being as rural as it is the post code system works on a general area and isn’t a exact location of where you want to go. As stated, once you are on the B7021 lookout for a sign on a tree saying drumfad holiday homes, like the sign states drive down for ¾ mile on a single-track road and you will soon arrive at a bridge. Drive over the bridge and you will see your chosen cottage/barn in white on right hand side.
In respect to the photos you see online and what you see physically there is little to no difference, the first thing that strikes you is how well kept the property is, guess it a sign of good owners. While in the property (the barn in my case) you are welcomed by a detailed and informative ring binder full of useful information. It will be wise for all that stay to read the ring binder as it has operating instructions for things like the electric hob etc and requests by the property owner on what is required on leaving day.
From fridge freezer/vacuum/iron/ clothes horse along with a Nintendo wii/DVD player and a tv that can play back up files of your tv shows/movies and music then nestled away in various book cases cupboards you have board games and reading material you really are struggling to find something to complain about.
Evening times for me are best at the property as the owners have placed the living room eastward facing with an amazing number of windows; great for watching the sunset behind the Tellytubby hill (yes you will now not be able to un-see this image). Oddly, now that I think of it, I think there are more windows on this side of the house as opposed to masonry.
In the kitchen there is a dining table large enough to host a small family with ample elbow room too (6 chairs), kitchen utensils are provided too. Before I forget I was welcomed with a nice basket of goods including eggs and milk which I thought was a lovely welcome gesture.
In reference to the bathroom/bedroom side of things, there are two en-suite bathrooms both with shower and loo facilities. The shower is powerful and sadly puts my shower at home to shame. There is a towel radiator in the bathroom that is switched on from a control panel from underneath it.
I’m sitting here and thinking what are the bad points? There must be some! If I was to be really finicky and awkward, I would say the following (may 2019): -
1) The electric kettle needs to be de-scaled, but this didn’t stop me from using it. If it was a significant problem, I can always heat the water in a mug in the microwave (told you I was struggling on bad points).
2) The silicone/grout in the shower area could do with a bit of freshening up
I know the above is a pathetic list of things that are wrong with the property but like I said I was honestly struggling with bad points, but being an honest review, it is best to mention.
The homeowner Claire is very knowledgeable and great as a point of reference, so if you have any questions ask Claire as she is great at holding a conversation and adding weight to your daily plans. I.e I wanted to go to the Logan botanical gardens and Claire advised about a stop 20 minutes futher down the road which was the mull of Galloway. I am glad that I went to the mull of Galloway as it completed a very nice day out.
If you are into your walking this property is ideally located for that reason, a short walk from the property is the white loch of myrton, you can walk all the way around this loch (approximately 7km total trek) or if you are up for a bit more of a challenge and want to venture a bit further out you can walk to Port William then take a stroll down the pebble then head up to the Barsalloch fort for a nice 17km walk.
Overall 8/10 I would love to come back again.
