This is our 4th visit, but first time in cottage. Not a disappointment! Facilities great. Warm and cosy. Quiet. Perfect retreat and great for exploring the area

"The cottage is set down a quiet country lane and was very well equipped."
The owner who lives next-door came to introduce himself and informed us of a slight problem with the tap in the kitchen but asked if it would be ok if someone called to fix it the following day. This was done with no inconvenience to ourselves. We have visited this area before but found the cottage was central to enable us to travel to favourite destinations locally. Overall we felt glad to get back to getting away after all the restrictions and felt safe and comfortable in this lovely clean and well maintained property.

If you want to experience peace but have access to the coast as well as scenic countryside, then look no further. We shall certainly be returning.

We were supposed to travel in April due to lock down we had to change booking which incurred a added cost which was due to pay before we went on holiday. I got the bill they wouldn't let me pay this on line there was no phones answering you just got a message then cut of then I got an email to say we have cancelled your holiday as your £15 bill hasn't been paid, which ment we would loose all our money through no fault of our own which was utterly distressing. Luckily I has a contact email for owner who sorted it with sykes he was brilliant. Sykes then called to take £15 payment the phone call guy was very dry in his manner. So my sykes experience was not a pleasent on and I tried to contact pre covid and had same experience trying to contact them, so wouldn't rate them won't recomend them and definitely won't use them again

The house is very spacious and comfortable-especially the beds! We enjoyed the fact there is no wi-fi and no phone signal but I’m not sure our teenagers agreed. The welcome pack was a lovely surprise and much appreciated- especially the fresh bread. The enclosed garden is also great for dogs and kids and we saw a red squirrel on our first afternoon there.

This wasn’t as issue for my husband and myself however our teenage son was extremely disappointed! The cottage has a lovely garden which our dog loved and it was so very very quiet, which was just what we needed. The were great walks easily accessed from the cottage and also some lovely tracks and quiet roads where we could run. The cottage was a reasonable size with all the essentials provided. The only ‘disappointment’ for us was the shower being over the bath and in inability to really regulate the water in the shower. We had a very pleasant stay and Dave was a great host and very accommodating with a few nice touches that we didn’t expect. All in all a nice holiday in a lovely part of Scotland.

Very quiet, with lovely views, and lots of birds, including buzzards. Bring plenty food, as the nearest shops are at a fair distance, but there is ample storage! No phone signal or wi-fi, but a huge selection of book shops in Wigton!

The cottage has a lovely garden which is brilliant for the dogs and for sitting out and relaxing.

Drumfad Cottage has a double and a twin room on the first floor, while the ground floor is taken up with an open-plan living area.
The sitting area has a woodburning stove and the well-equipped kitchen has a dining table with patio doors to a large rear garden which is an excellent place to relax and unwind.

Dating from the end of the eighteenth century, the fishing village of Port William sits on the east side of Luce Bay on the Machars peninsula in the Dumfries and Galloway region of Scotland. There is much history in the area from early Christian sites through to more recent smuggling activities. The picturesque harbour that dates from the 18th century offers sea angling and is ideal for sailors too. There is a statue of a bronze otter erected in memory of Gavin Maxwell, author of ‘Ring of Bright Water’. His family home, Monreith House, is nearby and Maxwell used to exercise his otter on the beach below the house. Oscar Kokoschka, one of the twentieth century’s best known expressionist painters, spent time here during the Second World War. Today Port William is an attractive fishing village within easy reach of sandy beaches, a 9 hole links course just 2 miles away, walking and cycling in the Galloway hills and the cafés and shops of Wigtown, designated as Scotland’s first Book Town. Carnival Week is traditionally held in the first week in August with a wealth of events and attractions. Nature lovers will be drawn to the many nature reserves in the area as well as the childhood home of Gavin Maxwell at Elrig, just along the coast.
