  • "The chalet is sadly neglected and very much in need of attention to make it a worthy holiday."

The photos do not make it clear that there is no enclosed garden which is misleading. The furniture is as in the photos however its in dire need of updating with bits broken and overall shabby. The sofa has lost its springs. The kitchen has chipped crockery and the uneven floor remains but with lino over the top. Carpets are stained with a really dirty rug. Hard to keep clean with a hoover that barely works. The bed linen was clean and fresh. The biggest difficulty is that the double bed is beyond use almost and sleeping 2 people comfortably not possible. I wanted to cry after a night on it. The mattress needs replacing ASAP. The hotel grounds are pleasant and location excellent. We used the bar twice and restaurant once and on the night we ate the waitress was rude and abrupt and made it clear we were an annoyance by not booking ahead. To be fair she was the only staff member visible but there were very few diners and plenty of space. The Hotel was used by different groups of contractors both nights, who were no bother but gave the impression that they were the mainstay of the hotel (at least off season). Overall I'm really disappointed with the accommodation but really loved the area. With a bit of love and attention it could transform the chalet.

  • "Firstly . We turned up and found out the bunk bed had not been made up ."

There was 3 of us , myself sister and mother. Theres 2 double beds and a bunk . It took 4 hours to get the bedding from the hotel , which is next door .. The kitchen floor tiles where all loose , my mother kept falling over them ,shes 86 . I finished up putting gaffer tape down to level it up .. The pictures seem to have been take a few years ago . Eh im not posh i`ve slept in places a goat would not have . Some pictures are misleading , like the massive lawn for the dog .. No no it`s at the side of the hotel ,not fenced ..

  • "The location of the chalet was excellent and food at the hotel next door was lovely."

Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The chalet itself was big enough but very dark and a bit cold. Some lighter paint might have helped brighten things up. There were also a few maintenance issues, for example, the kitchen floor and the wall heaters.

  • "The peace and quiet, close enough to the hotel if you craved company, but far enough away that you didn't need to see anyone."

The hotel staff were warm and friendly, the food well cooked and reasonably priced. Will gladly return

About the location

Castle Douglas 6 miles; Kirkcudbright 13.5 miles; Dumfries 14 miles.

The attractive country town of Dalbeattie nestles in the south west of Scotland. The town sits within a wooded valley on the River Urr and provides access to the picturesque Solway Coast with its miles of beaches and pretty fishing villages. Dalbeattie is originally known for its granite quarry, which exported stone all over the world, most notably for the Eddystone Lighthouse and Thames Embankment. Today it is renowned for its outdoor activities with the world famous 7stanes mountain biking complex nearby as well as forest walks in Glentrool, where you can follow in the footsteps of Richard Hannay in The Thirty Nine Steps. Dalbeattie and the surrounding area offer panoramic views of the Solway Firth, the Lake District and the Galloway Hills. A great location, which has something for everyone.
