Clean, comfortable, lovely views. I often find different beds very uncomfortable, but not here. Everything we needed was there. Joyce came to welcome us, she was very friendly and helpful.

Ideal for visits to Mull of Galloway, Patricktown, 2nd hand bookshops at Wigtown and amazing Celtic Christianity site at Withorn. Very close to sea for walks too. Owner very friendly and ensured stay was perfect.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Challochmun View immensely."

It was spotlessly clean, was very comfortable and was well equipped. The views across the valley and down to the sea are amazing. Our hosts were very welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The location was ideal, being only a few minutes from the A75 and not too far to go for any provisions. There is a pub close by but advisable to book as they were unable to accommodate us for a meal when we called in there. We enjoyed trips to The Mull of Galloway, Galloway Forest Park, Clatteringshaws Loch and also the Stranraer-Glasgow railway line. It was a great week in a beautiful area and I can highly recommend Challochmun View as a base to explore it.

  • "We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay over New Year."

The owner welcomed us to the lodge and ensured we were settled in. We left the lodge having had a peaceful, comfortable, and relaxing stay. Despite overlooking their field, the tame cows are surprisingly quiet, and we have been lucky enough to spot some beautiful birds in the morning. It was a bit too cold to sit in the garden or on the deck, but I imagine it will be a joy in the summer with the countryside and sea views. The lodge is practically designed for walkers, with Glen Trool, the Southern Upland Way and Castle Kennedy all within a short drive away. We wished this lodge existed a few years ago when we did part of the Southern Upland Way! Within the lodge, there is a sink and storage in the entranceway, which was perfect for washing down the boots and keeping the lodge clean and tidy. The kitchen is well kitted out with a double oven and a microwave. The dishwasher was as clean as a whistle. The bed in the master bedroom... good grief, we wish we could have taken it home! It made it even harder to get up in the morning. We own an electric car, so we were pleased when communicating with the owner that we were allowed to charge the car during our stay. While there's not a dedicated car charger at the lodge, we were able to use our 13A cable through the kitchen window while parked outside the lodge for a couple of nights for a small monetary donation to cover the electricity. The owner did mention that sometimes they move the cows between the fields, so if you plan to do the same, you may need to move the car into the dedicated driveway/pen, but this would have caused us no issues at all. Thank you once again for a wonderful stay. We will be staying again next time we find ourselves in the area (hopefully this time to climb the Merrick!).

Thank you for your very in depth and complimentary review. Thank u for the money for the car charging too. Much appreciated. Joyce Property Owner
