  • "Really nice cottage in a lovely, friendly and welcoming seaside village, the locals in the Harbour Inn, really made us feel welcome, cottage was really well equipped and clean."

It was lovely having 2 wood burners, so when in the kitchen/dining room, it was as lovely and warm, as the lounge. With the downstairs being tiled, and able to shut off rooms, was ideal with us having dogs, so was able to clean them after walk, before they went anywhere carpeted, the garden was ideal to for them, with it being secure. All in all, a really nice cottage, in lovely surroundings. We would recommend it highly.

First time ever there has been plenty of room for 8 people to sit comfortably in the living area and roaring fire .Some updating regarding decorating but it didn’t spoil our holiday at all - Only four of us and hot water ran out so needed to use the booster but again didn’t spoil our holiday, Fab local pub lovely people and gorgeous food with very reasonable prices . Would definitely recommend a stay here we will be back

  • "The cottage is wonderfully spacious, with a really useful boot/coat room as you come in."

The accommodation was very comfortable, and home-from-home-like, with all sorts of useful gadgetry in the kitchen, such as a poached egg pan, and vegetable steamer. The sitting room was delightful and very comfortable. We were fortunate to have hot weather when we were staying, so didn’t use the log-burners. All four bedrooms were made up, although there were just two of us staying. We opted for a bedroom on the top floor with the best sea views, and an en-suite shower room. Plenty of hot water. I recommend 4-5 on the shower setting as the pressure is really strong. The hosts were very approachable, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this property.

  • "Cowgate was perfect for us as a group of five."

Lovely hot showers, comfy beds, pretty garden, excellent location to visit all of Wigtonshire. Brill pub 2 mins away. Private Shame to arrive to an unflushed toilet (no,2'),and bedside lights gone. Had to chase twice for it to be attended too. Bathroom loo still not working properly (only no1' and loo paper flushed away) Gentleman who eventually arrived was thumping on the door and ringing the doorbell which we found very rude. He fixed one light, loo issue dismissed as it flushed when he was there but it was not working so unable to use that loo for rest of stay.

Dear Mr and Mrs Grayburn Thank you for your feedback, firstly I can only apologise for the first impression you received in the downstairs bathroom, Melanie had her grand daughter with her when cleaning and we think she may have been the 'culprit' although I fully agree the toilet should have been checked. With regard to flushing we have had it checked there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Re upstairs lamps, both are working now and I personally feel hardly a public feedback issue, More a quick message to myself ? Stephen is a good hearted fellow and we have never found him rude, I don't know what he could have done more to attract your attention other than ringing the doorbell or knocking on the front door ? Anyway hope you enjoyed your stay and maybe you will book our wonderful cottage again some day . Kind regards Ian Robinson Property Owner

  • "Cottage is in an amazing location it was truly magical and just what we needed."

Great facilities however only enough hot water for about 5 showers. Plenty of kitchen cooking supplies, crockery and glassware, oven could do with a deep clean at some point. We had a fabulous family holiday and would definitely return. P.S The Harbour Inn pub food was excellent!

Hi Denise Many thanks for your feedback, it is much appreciated, we are delighted you enjoyed your stay at Cowgate Cottage, I will look at the oven issue and I am sure there are instructions for the hot water, the hot water tank in the cottage is a recent installation and is capable of supplying a family with enough hot water, although it will very much depend on time spent in showers, that is why there is the boost button in the cupboard to add additional hot water as soon as it possible to heat up for more showers. Hope this answers your feedback. Thank you and hope we see you again. Ian Robinson Property Owner

Hi Valerie Thank for you very valuable feedback and I hope this addresses your comments There is a boost button in the cupboard in the left of the kitchen for hot water This is mentioned in the information booklet, hope this answers your feedback and we hope you would like to book the cottage again Kind regards Ian Robinson Property Owner

The house is stunning! Every room on three floors was warm and exquisite. The house had 5 tv s so enough to make all guests comfortable and relaxed. Plenty of showers and hot water. The Harbour Inn was a short walk away, lovely staff, great menu and no need to drive! We really did have a fabulous holiday and would return in a shot. • "A beautiful house!"

Well proportioned and plenty of room for the size of our party. The beds were very comfy and showers were brilliant! The property was very clean on arrival and everything we needed to keep it that way was available (hoover, cloths etc.). There were plenty of pots, pans and utensils for cooking. The cupboards were also well stocked with glassware and plates. If I'm being really critical, there were a couple of walls that needed a bit of decorating repair but it was very minimal. We had a fab break with many creature comforts that we are used to at home.

Many thanks for your comments and yes we are going to re decorate some rooms as soon as possible Delighted you enjoyed the cottage Property Owner

  • "Very well situated holiday home."

Could do with a freshen up regarding painting inside. Fridge not quite as clean inside as I would have liked and freezer extremely noisy. The garden was lovely but bit over grown and the garden parasol was broken and not usable which was a shame as the weather was stunning during our visit. The beds were extremely comfortable and everyone slept well. It was a great space for our family holiday, situated in a gorgeous area. We can highly recommend the food at the local pub, The Harbour Inn.

Stepping outside, the sheltered patio area provides alfresco dining opportunities whatever the weather, whilst the furniture peppered alongside the banks of the pond offer a tranquil position to enjoy an evening drink before bed.

When sleep calls, retreat indoors and choose between four thoughtfully laid-out bedrooms, the first of which, a snug twin room, is nestled on the ground-floor alongside the family bathroom, ideal for guests with limited mobility.

Climbing the stairs to the first floor you'll discover the master suite, home to a sumptuous king-size and benefiting from access to it's own dressing room and en-suite, whilst two double rooms, one with an en-suite, are positioned on the second floor.

Take advantage of your coastal location and take the short stroll to the peaceful harborside, where you can watch the world go by as the boats sail across the tranquil waters of Garlieston Bay; a truly lovely spot to escape the woes of everyday life.

Take a break from doing the cooking and indulge in a delicious bite to eat at the aptly named beachfront pub, The Harbour Inn, or venture to the nearby village of Sorbie for Italian cuisine at The Pheasant.

About the location

GARLIESTON

Wigtown 8 miles; Newton Stewart 14 miles.

Garlieston is a small coastal village that nestles on the Machars Peninsula, looking out over Wigtown Bay. It was popular as a fishing and cargo harbour until the 20th century, partly due to the extension of the Wigtownshire Railway. Worth noting is the part played by Garlieston in the development and testing of the Mulberry harbours that were deployed during the D-Day Landings. Today, the harbour provides berthing for leisure and fishing craft and offers a shop and Post Office as well as a traditional inn serving wholesome meals. The gardens of nearby Galloway House date from 1740 and offer a superb network of walks through magical woodland that lead towards the sweeping shoreline. Just north of Garlieston is Wigtown, once a thriving port, and now Scotland’s National Book Town. Apart from the attractive scenery and the varied coastline, the Machars Peninsular offers pretty towns such as Port William, still a working harbour, and Monreith, which was the home of writer Gavin Maxwell and offers a delightful, sandy beach.

Note - Please keep dogs off beds and soft furnishings.
Note: There is an unfenced pond in the garden, please take care and ensure children and dogs are supervised at all times
