  • "Glen View in one word "Perfect"."

The photo gallery is an accurate representation of this superb cottage but it doesn't convey the spaciousness and comfort afforded to guests. The cottage is stunning. Add on the exceptional high standard of equipment and finish coupled with the top quality bedding and towels and you have the perfect holiday accommodation. Then there is the location which is unique. Effectively you have a huge, neat garden area surrounded by your own private forest. Venture further and the forest gives way to moorland and fields. My dogs love it too. This is the most pet friendly property we have ever visited. The conservatory provides the ideal space for dogs to sleep at night safely and in comfort. We all loved our time at Glen View and will definitely return.

  • "This cottage is beautiful and the photos do not do it justice."

Very clean with quality furnishings. Paradise for dogs and agile children. A little too far from good road network for me though. Rough track up to estate is a disadvantage too which unfortunately the owners cant resolve.

Remote location and beautiful grounds. Very clean and well equipped. Ideal place to de-stress and unwind. WiFi is very hit and miss but that can be a positive at times! Would definitely recommend

  • "Glenview was a excellent 'get away from it all' set in its own spacious well maintained grounds."

..Surrounded by beautiful woodland. A roomy property to meet all your needs. If there was a slight criticism it would be ...the approach road to the property.. a few deep pot holes ..these need to be addressed.. This wouldn't take much . Understanding that this is not on the owners land but is a issue. I would recommend this Holiday home and would certainly consider returning.

We had two weeks at this amazing hideaway just watch the wildlife & enjoy the sun. Visiting the beach most days with endless walks. We really didn’t want to come home & we hope to return soon. Thank you to Mr & Mrs Edwards for allowing us to share your wonderful cottage.

  • "Amazing property in a picturesque location, with Deer, red squirrels and some beautiful birds to keep us company."

Due to the increasing worry of covid we spent the whole week here just relaxing and exploring the surrounding wood and land with our GSD, instead of our planned trips out to explore further a field in Scotland using this as a base. As soon as we arrived we knew we would be back again, our car never moved the whole week and we never got bored once, its definitely a once visited never forgotten kind of place.

Only issue we had was finding it at the start you do need a big car to go up the lanes but lucky we already had that. Can’t wait to come back at Christmas

  • "This was not a holiday, it was a nightmare."

The cottage was fabulous with everything catered for. However due to the recent bad weather which I appreciate the owners are not responsible, the track to get to the cottage was virtually impassable. We only have a small car, we had to go through very deep and very long pools of water. I am disabled and cannot walk unaided outside. I was terrified that we would get stuck. You really need a 4 wheel drive or SUV to get to cottage in this weather. We should have been told how bad the track was. We would not have gone if we had known this. On the day after arrival there was a heavy snowfall, you could not make out which was the road to get out. My husband went out with the dogs and saw that the pools were much worse, so we were housebound that day. Things did not improve, no mobile signal and no wifi. We were constantly looking at weather forecasts. Had to go out the following day to get logs and provisions. Again was very anxious about getting back due to ice. We had had enough by the Wednesday and left Thursday morning 2 days early. You really should make it clear that this track is not suitable for small cars, also whoever is responsible needs to get some hardcore and repair this track or else the cottage should not be let out in the winter. Very disappointed, the cottage is lovely but would not return because of the track, the numerous potholes, and the location which makes it difficult to even get a loaf of bread, petrol, logs etc

  • "This cottage was fabulous, exactly as described, very remote set in its own wonderful forest, yet half an hours drive down the road to Dumfries."

Extremely clean. I would highly recommend an enclosed outdoor area for the dogs to be left safely For us pet lovers. ( it’s unrealistic to take dogs everywhere with you and your not allowed to leave them unattended in the cottage ) So we did get a bit stuck there and have to rotate our trips. But other than that, outstanding! We will be back thank you

  • "Fabulous cottage, really well equipped, beautiful setting."

We didn't realise there was an upstairs bathroom so that was a bonus. Spotlessly clean and the furnishings are all high quality. I would say, we hired a car (SUV type) after seeing that someone had mentioned the track to the cottage, and we were really glad we did, as it is a very bumpy track & low cars would struggle I feel. But we wish we were still there! A very peaceful relaxing holiday. Also, we went to escape the fireworks with our dog, and the only sound we heard at night was owls - bliss!

Very spacious and fully equipped - couldn't fault it and could quite happily live there if it wasn't for the road up to it - I agree with the previous reviewer - a nightmare if anything's coming in the opposite direction as no passing places!!

Set in a secluded forest amidst beautiful countryside Glenview delivered the perfect holiday home. Immaculately clean with spacious rooms, all of which were furnished to a high standard. Also benefitting from downstairs facilities the accomodation was ideal for my disabled parents. The only minor negative being the lack of basics such as salt, pepper, a pint of milk etc.....I.e. a small welcome pack as this cottage is approx 30 mins from Dumfries

DUMFRIES

Castle Douglas 18 miles; Gretna 30 miles; Kirkcudbright 40 miles; Lake District National Park 50 miles;

Known as the Queen of the South, Dumfries is a market town and former royal burgh and is the largest town in south west Scotland. It lies close to the mouth of the River Nith as it opens into the Solway Firth. Its origins are mysterious and are believed to involve at various times the ancient Romans, St Ninian and there is evidence of King Arthur having fought battles in the area. It is also held that Malcolm Canmore and William the Conqueror met here in the 11th century and William Wallace pursued the English through the surrounding Nith valley 200 years later. Robert the Bruce killed his rival John Comyn in the Greyfriars Kirk in Dumfries and Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed in the town for a few days in the mid 18th century and the poet Robert Burns moved to Dumfries in 1791 and staying until his death five years later. Today Dumfries is a bustling popular town with much to offer the visitor. Its location makes it ideal for exploring the coastline with its sandy beaches and rocky inlets to the Galloway Hills and Ae forest offering superb walking and cycling on the famous 7 stanes trails. Visit stunning Caerlaverock Castle and Nature Reserve or indulge in some high octane excitement with the Scottish Rally based in Dumfries each summer.
