  • "Delightful place to stay for a country holiday."

The house has amazing views and was very comfortable, clean and well equipped and we were even visited on the balcony by a red squirrel. Surrounding area very scenic with an abundance of walks and wildlife. We look forward to returning in the near future.

  • "The cottage was in a fantastic location, amazing scenery."

It was well equipped and very clean. We had red squirrels in the garden most days which was fantastic

  • "Disappointed in cleanliness of crockery, cutlery and baking trays."

Microwave rusty inside. Shower wasn't draining properly. Musty smell throughout property. We took our own bedding and told the owner we would be doing this. She said both beds were double, when one is in fact a superking. Luckily our own sheets are superking anyway but other guests might need to be aware of this.

Thank you for your feedback. Regarding the beds, we are sorry for the confusion, we believe you had been informed via our telephone conversation pre arrival. We can confirm that the microwave and trays have been replaced. We have reached out to you directly to confirm that absolutely no odour could be detected in the property. In addition, the shower was found to be working perfectly and no dirty cutlery or crockery found. We would have been more than happy to assist if you had chosen to contact us during your stay, via the two contact numbers that are given to customers pre arrival. Property Owner

  • "Owners there when we arrived, a bit early, but they could not do enough to make sure our stay went sweetly, which it did."

Very nice owners, large cottage was plenty for us 4, (2 couples). Lovely views from garden, and patio area. Also, had access to higher ground, which gave views over cottage, to valley and forrest opposite in distance. Will be going back again! Cannot recommend this property enough!

  • "Probably one of the best cottages we have stayed in."

Extremely comfortable and clean house with plenty of space for all the family. Well equipped with everything we needed. The location was ideal - an easy walk to the village where there were plenty of small shops and pubs plus easy access to A75 and further afield. The views from the house were gorgeous. Photos on the website don't do this house justice. We would certainly recommend to friends and family and will hopefully return in the future.

  • "This was a well arranged week long break in a stunning location."

We would love to go again but have been informed that it will not be pet friendly in the future. We understand the reasons for this but are disappointed as we would love to visit again. The owner and Sykes were very supportive regarding our holiday. I would book another holiday with this company

Lovely situation and views to die for but property was neglected and unclean! The present owner has greatly improved the property, made it much more comfortable and is spotlessly clean.Would highly recommend!

  • "The garden is not flat and has quite steep steps running through it."

But the views from the living room are wonderful, it could use a handrail for the steps going into the garden

  • "Craiglure had lovely views, we made good use of the conservatory and the external decking ,which we don't have at home."

It was a nice change to live on one level with out stairs. A great place to stay everything worked as it should and we had no problems. For peace and quiet and a base to explore Dumfries and Galloway the cottage is perfect.

  • "Lovely clean house with big rooms and a large secluded garden, all situated at the end of a quiet road with the village an easy walk away with access to the road through a gate at the bottom of the garden."

Beautiful views of the mountains and the 'dark' skies viewed from the two terrace's. We found the local villagers to be friendly and helpful to us and the Masonic Arms pub served excellent food. We were visited by red squirrels, tame pheasants and many more birds, including woodpeckers to the feeders we took with us. Heading north from the house and within a short driving distance we were in the mountains with not a house to be seen. The owners were very helpful to us and we look forward to going there again.

About the location

GATEHOUSE OF FLEET

Kirkcudbright 8 miles; Newton Stewart 15 miles; Castle Douglas 15 miles.

Peaceful in its pastel colours, the small country town of Gatehouse of Fleet lies on the Solway Firth, in the midst of Dumfries & Galloway countryside, with good sandy beaches a five-minute drive away. The town was founded in the 1760s as a mill community, and today the nearby Mill on the Fleet - a visitor centre in a former bobbin mill - tells the tale of Gatehouse’s cotton-spinning days. Today, there are several shops in the town including a small supermarket, chemist, bank and Post Office, along with two book/gift shops, a kilt-making centre and two cafes. All four pubs in the town have restaurant facilities and welcome children. Castle Douglas, a 15-minute drive away, offers an extensive range of shops, Threave Gardens and boating on Carlingwark Loch.
