“The cottage is lovely, comfortable and well maintained.”

It is ideally situated for the town of Gatehouse of Fleet and accessing all surrounding areas. We had a really good time and would highly recommend the property.

The property

A lovely terraced cottage built in the 1800's in picturesque Gatehouse of Fleet, near the coast in beautiful Dumfries and Galloway.

With a large garden at the rear, this is the ideal getaway cottage for a family or friends who want to explore this beautiful part of Scotland.

You enter the property into the beautiful stone floored hallway.

The ground floor has a comfortable sitting room with a wood-burning stove and a Freeview package including BT Sport and the younger ones will love the traditional rocking horse.

There is a large selection of family films and games alongside books and magazines for guests to use.

A dining kitchen has a view over the generous back garden and a small sun room with lovely stone flooring is an ideal place to curl up with a book.

Quality bedding and towels are provided for guests use. The first floor has a king-size double bedroom, a twin and a single and a superb stone floored shower room.

A few doors along is The Ship Inn on the footbridge over the Water of Fleet, with the Mill on The Fleet visitor centre developed from a former textile mill.

Gatehouse of Fleet is the ideal location for walking, cycling and golf and with many beautiful beaches only a few miles away, you will be spoilt for choice.

Why not challenge yourself at the Laggan Outdoor Centre or treat yourself at the Cream o’ Galloway Farm and activity centre for some fantastic ice cream.

Dip into the area’s past at Cardoness Castle or visit the Covenanters’ graves at the ruins of Anwoth Church.

A lovely holiday home, offering so much to see and do, making it a great base for a holiday at any time of the year.

About the location

Kirkcudbright 8 miles; Newton Stewart 15 miles; Castle Douglas 15 miles.

Peaceful in its pastel colours, the small country town of Gatehouse of Fleet lies on the Solway Firth, in the midst of Dumfries & Galloway countryside, with good sandy beaches a five-minute drive away. The town was founded in the 1760s as a mill community, and today the nearby Mill on the Fleet - a visitor centre in a former bobbin mill - tells the tale of Gatehouse’s cotton-spinning days. Today, there are several shops in the town including a small supermarket, chemist, bank and Post Office, along with two book/gift shops, a kilt-making centre and two cafes. All four pubs in the town have restaurant facilities and welcome children. Castle Douglas, a 15-minute drive away, offers an extensive range of shops, Threave Gardens and boating on Carlingwark Loch.
