  • "The cleanliness on arrival was very reassuring in these Covid times."

Other things we were particularly pleased by: the super-comfy beds; the powerful showers; the well-equipped kitchen; the general spaciousness and comfort of the furnishings; the excellent and peaceful location; the decent wifi. The only thing I'd change would be for the kitchen sink to be enlarged (a personal preference). Incidentally, the kitchen sink has a bit of a drip. We had no need to contact the proprietor during the stay, but given his responsiveness to queries beforehand I'm confident he would have provided any help had it been needed.

  • "Easy Gable is in a beautiful setting."

The house is well equipped but unfortunately the double beds are both very small and one of them is very soft and hence uncomfortable.

  • "The property was wonderful."

From the email full of directions and useful info to the place itself, everything was spot on. The area was quiet and peaceful, the property has everything you could need and more (cake baking equipment if needed!) and a dishwasher and washing machine. We couldn't fault it and will definitely be back in the future.

  • "We were celebrating my husband's 70th birthday with our family and had a wonderful time, thanks in no small measure to East Gable."

The facilities and furnishings were excellent and the location on the river was very attractive. Gatehouse of Fleet is a very pretty little village with three hotels withing walking distance offering good pub food at reasonable prices. The surrounding countryside has countless distractions, particularly historical sites, a special interest of our family. The neighbouring town of Kirkudbright has a variety of interesting shops and a supermarket.

Only drawback was the dishwasher not working and some more comfortable garden furniture to relax in by the river would have been good. The house itself was very well equipped.

  • "Accommodation clean, warm and comfortable in lovely village setting."

Local people very friendly and welcoming. Plenty of choice re places to eat, and the conveniently located Spar meant that we could stock up with necessities as required. The fact that the river (Fleet) runs adjacent to the garden adds a certain tranquillity to the setting, as well as giving opportunities to see local wildlife - eg herons, kingfishers.

About the location

GATEHOUSE OF FLEET

Kirkcudbright 8 miles; Newton Stewart 15 miles; Castle Douglas 15 miles.

Peaceful in its pastel colours, the small country town of Gatehouse of Fleet lies on the Solway Firth, in the midst of Dumfries & Galloway countryside, with good sandy beaches a five-minute drive away. The town was founded in the 1760s as a mill community, and today the nearby Mill on the Fleet - a visitor centre in a former bobbin mill - tells the tale of Gatehouse’s cotton-spinning days. Today, there are several shops in the town including a small supermarket, chemist, bank and Post Office, along with two book/gift shops, a kilt-making centre and two cafes. All four pubs in the town have restaurant facilities and welcome children. Castle Douglas, a 15-minute drive away, offers an extensive range of shops, Threave Gardens and boating on Carlingwark Loch.
