There are plenty of beaches within a short drive. We found the cottage adequate for our needs. When we arrived the sun room had not been cleaned however after contacting the owner she quickly resolved the issue. The overall standard of cleanliness was not high and we felt the deep cleaning had not taken place.

Garden and garden room were spiffy. Beds were comfy. There was on street parking right outside. Liked the fact there were 2 toilets and 2 showers. Lots of things to do- eg cocoa bean company for the kids, gem museum, Sandgreen beach and Broughton house. Forest walks locally we’re delightful. The addition of a DVD player and parasol would have topped the cherry on the cake.

It was very comfy with everything that we would have at home . Also a lovely touch being greeted with a Christmas card and biscuits and chocolates. As other people have mentioned would recommend blackout curtains in bedrooms and maybe a lock on downstairs bathroom.

The cottage was much bigger than we expected, with realy comfortable beds. The grandchildren enjoyed the large garden and lovely summer house, which we were not expecting. My only comments would be that locks would be good on the bathroom doors and there was not much cupboard space in the kitchen as there seemed an excessive amount of crockery, also there were only 4 dinning chairs and there were 7 in our party. About the location

GATEHOUSE OF FLEET

Kirkcudbright 8 miles; Newton Stewart 15 miles; Castle Douglas 15 miles.

Peaceful in its pastel colours, the small country town of Gatehouse of Fleet lies on the Solway Firth, in the midst of Dumfries & Galloway countryside, with good sandy beaches a five-minute drive away. The town was founded in the 1760s as a mill community, and today the nearby Mill on the Fleet - a visitor centre in a former bobbin mill - tells the tale of Gatehouse’s cotton-spinning days. Today, there are several shops in the town including a small supermarket, chemist, bank and Post Office, along with two book/gift shops, a kilt-making centre and two cafes. All four pubs in the town have restaurant facilities and welcome children. Castle Douglas, a 15-minute drive away, offers an extensive range of shops, Threave Gardens and boating on Carlingwark Loch.
