  • "This is the second time we have stayed at Sayers Place, a well presented and comfortable cottage."

Access into the property could be a problem for anyone with mobility issues as there are three steps, a handrail would be useful, once inside there are no problems as all on one level. Looking forward to staying again next year.

  • "Had a lovely holiday at Sayers Place."

It was spotless and every cleaning product available even though I take all of these with me and didn’t need to. Very comfortable and separate showers. Plenty of walks and shops and very well situated for visits afield. David and June on hand if necessary and very helpful. I would love to come back next year. Thanks so much. • "Everything was perfect."

Lovely to meet the owner of the cottage who was very helpful. Thank you for the wine and biscuits on our arrival. We have visited many cottages with Sykes over the years and we have to say this was one of the finest cottages we have visited. We ate out at The Ship Inn and the Masonic Arms both were very high standard. We thoroughly enjoyed our break in Gatehouse of Fleet.

  • "Sayers Place is excellent."

Limited 'sitting outside' but perfect for 4 inside. And you can use the Ship Inn beer garden across the road to sit out. More like a proper home than holiday accomodation. And as its in middle of village there are quiet bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. Unlimited walks around and towns nearby to visit. Kircudbright town and Threave Gardens are well worth a visit. Good walk upriver from Kirkcudbright. Mossyard Bay. Is good for beach and swimming. No on site parking but we found no problem parking on road outside or across road 50 yard incar Park, Did look to see if we could book another week straight away (much more to do, walk and see) but Sayers was all booked up. We'll be back next year. Thanks Sayers. Jim

About the location

Kirkcudbright 8 miles; Newton Stewart 15 miles; Castle Douglas 15 miles.

Peaceful in its pastel colours, the small country town of Gatehouse of Fleet lies on the Solway Firth, in the midst of Dumfries & Galloway countryside, with good sandy beaches a five-minute drive away. The town was founded in the 1760s as a mill community, and today the nearby Mill on the Fleet - a visitor centre in a former bobbin mill - tells the tale of Gatehouse’s cotton-spinning days. Today, there are several shops in the town including a small supermarket, chemist, bank and Post Office, along with two book/gift shops, a kilt-making centre and two cafes. All four pubs in the town have restaurant facilities and welcome children. Castle Douglas, a 15-minute drive away, offers an extensive range of shops, Threave Gardens and boating on Carlingwark Loch.
