  • "Very cold when arrived and took a day to thaw out."

    Otherwise no problems

Scotland in February is indeed a cold place. I'm glad you thawed out in our cosy little Bothy and enjoyed your stay with us. Many thanks. Iain. Property Owner

  • "We have just spent an amazing week in this cottage, it was just perfect with all the facilities you need for weeks stay."

It was clean, comfortable and a friendly place to stay. Iain and Jackie (the owners) made sure we settled in and were on hand if we needed anything. Having a good Wi-Fi connection was an added bonus. I would thoroughly recommend staying here. We will be booking again back for next venture in Dumfries and Galloway.

It was our pleasure to host you Martin. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and we look forward to hosting you again in the future. Property Owner

  • "Very disappointed to say the least."

Impression was of a conversion carried out as cheaply as possible. The fittings and furnishing were not really as described in our opinion - the “charming sofa” was a tubular metal framed seat with a thin covering over it which we hardly used - the kitchen chairs were more comfortable. We left after 5 days.

We are sorry you did not enjoy your stay in The Dairy Bothy. It is regrettable that you did not reach out to us at any point to let us know you were unhappy. As we say in our pre-check in email and in our house manual, we cannot fix a problem if we do not know about it. Did you try sitting on the Brown leather sofa in the living room area which is the "charming sofa" the listing refers to or did you spend all your time sitting on the sofa in the kitchen? Fortunately, most of our guests love their time in The Bothy and I'm sure you would agree that something like the comfort of a sofa or a mattress is very much subjective. I guess this is a classic case of you can't please all of the people, all of the time. Best regards, Iain. Property Owner

  • "Had a fantastic stay here."

It was warm and inviting from the moment we arrived, we just didn't want to leave. We did get one night where we managed to see the stars but with typical Scottish weather the clouds came over. Still, it did not deter us from enjoying everything else in the local vicinity. A visit to the Mill on the Fleet in Gatehouse of Fleet is recommended as it tell the story of the town and surrounding areas. The Coffee shop downstairs served delicious homemade cakes. My partner and I highly recommend staying here.

Wow what a smashing review. Thanks very much. Glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Hope to see you again soon. Iain and Jackie. Property Owner

  • "A cosy and well equipped cottage that is perfectly located to explore both the coast and the hills of Galloway."

The owners are very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our stay. We loved the fact that the cottage was on a working farm, especially seeing the gorgeous pigs and goats every day.

  • "A welcome friendly reception to the cottage from the owners."

The cottage is situated on a dairy farm (no longer milking so no early morning sounds of milking machines). There are suckler cows and calves in the nearby fields and a couple of pet goats and pigs for those seeking some farm life. We found the cottage, that is attached to the main house, very cosy and practical. It had the added bonus of a little summerhouse shed for morning breakfast and lazy evenings watching the stars on clear nights. Other properties are available on the farm for rental for larger groups. Stunning scenery within walking, cycling or short drive. Two miles to the coast and less than two miles to excellent ice creams at Cream of Galloway. There is also a very nice walking area at the Cream of Galloway ideal for pottering or taking the kids on nature walks.

Thank you for such a cracking review Paul. Hope to see you both again soon. Iain and Jackie. Property Owner

  • "Loved staying here, the hosts were very welcoming from arrival."

There is plenty to do and see, many things are in close proximity. And if you're not looking to drive there are plenty walks around the area. I loved the sun house looking out across the field to the cows, it was very relaxing. Thank you both for a lovely stay, we will definitely be returning.

About the location

GATEHOUSE OF FLEET

Kirkcudbright 8 miles; Newton Stewart 15 miles; Castle Douglas 15 miles.

Peaceful in its pastel colours, the small country town of Gatehouse of Fleet lies on the Solway Firth, in the midst of Dumfries & Galloway countryside, with good sandy beaches a five-minute drive away. The town was founded in the 1760s as a mill community, and today the nearby Mill on the Fleet - a visitor centre in a former bobbin mill - tells the tale of Gatehouse’s cotton-spinning days. Today, there are several shops in the town including a small supermarket, chemist, bank and Post Office, along with two book/gift shops, a kilt-making centre and two cafes. All four pubs in the town have restaurant facilities and welcome children. Castle Douglas, a 15-minute drive away, offers an extensive range of shops, Threave Gardens and boating on Carlingwark Loch.
