  • "Excellent decor and provision of kitchen equipment."

Door to sitting room sticks. Needs 2 hands to open. Not sure if a wheelchair user could get into disabled toilet through the furniture of the bedroom. Not disabled so not a problem. Enjoyed many varied local walks.

Hi Sue. Thank you for the 100% review. much appreciated. Hope to see you again soon. Iain and Jackie. Property Owner

  • "Booked Middle Byers Barn for a short three night stay and we did not want to come home."

Lovely barn in a very peaceful setting. The barn was clean and very well equiped with everything you need. Comfortable beds for an amazingly restful night's sleep. The hot tub was a brilllliant extra which is clearly well maintained by the owners. Overall could not ask for more and would definitely go back.

  • "Plenty of space, a beautiful location, friendly and helpful assistance nearby when needed."

The hot-tub was an added luxury. There are plenty of places to visit nearby, and we had 3 beautiful woodland walks, one from the cottage on a footpath just before the A75 junction, one at Kirroughtree and another at Woods of Cree. We booked for next year straight away.

  • "We had a great week away staying at The Middle Byre at Claughan Farm."

The property was clean and well maintained - the owner was friendly and approachable if we had any queries. Beautiful location and more than suitable for young families or those without children. We enjoyed sitting out with a glass of wine, playing football and netball as well as chilling out in the hot tub ( my eleven year old particularly loved that). Can't wait to come again - thank you.

  • "This is a wonderful place for a family holiday."

Beautiful setting out in the country but very close to lots of places to visit and super beaches too. The house is spacious, comfortable and very well equipped and the owner couldn't have been more helpful. We enjoyed our stay so much none of us wanted to leave and we'll definitely be back.

About the location

GATEHOUSE OF FLEET

Kirkcudbright 8 miles; Newton Stewart 15 miles; Castle Douglas 15 miles.

Peaceful in its pastel colours, the small country town of Gatehouse of Fleet lies on the Solway Firth, in the midst of Dumfries & Galloway countryside, with good sandy beaches a five-minute drive away. The town was founded in the 1760s as a mill community, and today the nearby Mill on the Fleet - a visitor centre in a former bobbin mill - tells the tale of Gatehouse’s cotton-spinning days. Today, there are several shops in the town including a small supermarket, chemist, bank and Post Office, along with two book/gift shops, a kilt-making centre and two cafes. All four pubs in the town have restaurant facilities and welcome children. Castle Douglas, a 15-minute drive away, offers an extensive range of shops, Threave Gardens and boating on Carlingwark Loch.
