  • "We could only stay for two nights, even though we had booked and paid for a week."

This is because we felt very uncomfortable in the cottage which was cramped and, I'm sorry to say, soulless. There was no welcome, just a very long list of instructions and rules which made us feel inferior and unworthy of a much needed holiday. The stair gate with its notice of rules was the first thing we encountered on entering the property and it was just disheartening and depressing. The cottage was very clean. We liked the goats and pigs very much.

We are sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us in Valley View. It is clearly listed as suitable for 2 adults and 2 young children. You were a party of 3 adults and a dog. It is regrettable that you did not reach out to us during your stay to let us know you felt uncomfortable. We would have done our very best to address any issues you were facing. I approached to welcome your party on arrival at the property. I said hello to one of your group who was unloading bags from your vehicle. She elected not to reply to me and carried on inside the property. There is a house manual which provides various information to help guests during their stay. This is standard practice in most self catering accommodation. Apologies if the guidelines provided in the house manual made you feel inferior or unworthy. They are intended to make your stay as easy as possible. Our holiday homes are used by guests with and without dogs. For the comfort and enjoyment of all guests we request that dog owners do not permit their dogs upstairs in the bedrooms. This is clearly mentioned in the property listing. The small notice on the stairgate is purely a reminder of this and a request not to remove the gate. Thank you for your positive comments regarding the cleanliness of the cottage and our very charming animals. Property Owner

Such a great place for all ages, the goats and pigs were a great surprise! My son fed them everyday and loved going to see them. The owners make sure that you are happy and comfortable your full stay. 10/10 recommended!

  • "On first impression, the property was smaller than we expected, but it was very well put together and offered us all we needed; very easy to look after and comfortable."

In particular, the bed in the main bedroom was extremely comfortable. A lovely, quiet location but ideal for touring the region. Last but not least, the owner was very helpful. Our stay was a short one but we would have liked to stay longer.

Thank you very much for the lovely review Joyce. It was lovely to meet you both and we would love to host you again. All the best, Iain and Jackie. Property Owner

  • "We could not believe how clean this cottage was honestly."

Ian could not do enough for us. We had a dishwasher, washing machine, iron and ironing board, hairdryer and beautiful fluffy white tewels, hot showers and hot water on tap. Surrounding were beautiful, neighbours so friendly. We honestly could not have asked for more. Our week passed so quickly and wanted to stay longer but unfortunately commitments were pressing and knowing the amenities of this holiday place would be booked up anyway. We will remember this holiday for a long, long time. We would love to return one day. Many, many thanks. Seeing is believing.

About the location

GATEHOUSE OF FLEET

Kirkcudbright 8 miles; Newton Stewart 15 miles; Castle Douglas 15 miles.

Peaceful in its pastel colours, the small country town of Gatehouse of Fleet lies on the Solway Firth, in the midst of Dumfries & Galloway countryside, with good sandy beaches a five-minute drive away. The town was founded in the 1760s as a mill community, and today the nearby Mill on the Fleet - a visitor centre in a former bobbin mill - tells the tale of Gatehouse’s cotton-spinning days. Today, there are several shops in the town including a small supermarket, chemist, bank and Post Office, along with two book/gift shops, a kilt-making centre and two cafes. All four pubs in the town have restaurant facilities and welcome children. Castle Douglas, a 15-minute drive away, offers an extensive range of shops, Threave Gardens and boating on Carlingwark Loch.
