Located in the harbour of the beautiful and fascinating community that is the Isle. Well and thoughtfully appointed. Everything you, and your pets, need is to hand. The minimal but cosy kitchen/diner has stunning views over the harbour, with spectacular sunsets guaranteed. The owner , Janine. is always availlable to help if needed. The aprtment is next door to the extraordinary Steam Pacvket Inn, where yyou can enjoy cask ales brewed aroung the corner, or superbly cooked meals featuring local produce - especially swafood. A comfortable and relaxing home from home to which we will certainly return!

. The location is stunningly beautiful, especially in the sunshine. The apartment is always immaculately clean and well equiipped, with great views from the living/dining area. Both the area and the apartment are very dog friendly. Another brilliant stay in what has become for us a very special place.

The tv needs an upgrade it was frustrating trying to change channels. The filter on the cooker hood was thick with grease. The frying pan handle was dangerously loose, I tightened it with a screwdriver. The village was lovely and I would love to go there again, but not at Nubians Landing !

Well positioned with lovely views. The owners were very pleasant and informative and the local people were very friendly. The premises were very clean and tidy and the appartment was reasonably well appointed with sufficient utensils. The district has lots of good scenery and there are plenty of interesting places to visit. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much and would definitely revisit.

  • "The Moorings at Ninian's Landing on the Isle of Whithorn was the perfect holiday destination for us : the flat's main feature being the stunning view of the little harbour directly across from us, where you can watch the sunrise, sun set - the sea birds, the tide going in and out - people passing by and the boats that are moored there."

It is pet friendly ( treats were left for our dog, Charlie. ) In fact, for dog lovers, the Isle of Whithorn is a dream. The landscape is rugged, but walkable - the scenery is as beautiful as anything you would see in the Highlands - St. Ninian's Chapel is a magical place, beautifully kept and still a place of pilgrimage to those who wish to leave a stone on the cairn in memory of a loved one. The sea view is stunning. The flat is very sparsely decorated which calls attention to the beautiful view ( what more do you need! ) and the light quality is good because of its locality. Simply furnished, sparkly clean and warm, it was a lovely place to stay and comfortable. This hidden gem of a place is so worth a visit - this area is safe ( we spoke to many locals who took pride in this ) and not far from St Ninian's Cave, and the wonderful Wigtown where my husband and I met the author of the books "Diary of a Bookseller" and "Confessions of a Bookseller" : Shaun Bythell - visited his shop and met some of the local people described in the book! The friendliest town in Scotland.

  • "Excellent accommodation and location."

We felt totally safe regarding covid19 in the accommodation and within the local businesses. When things are this good you don't really want to shout about them, so that you can keep them to yourself. However, anyone going to The Moorings or The Isle Of Whithorn will not be disappointed. It's a very dog friendly area, just don't be one of those owners that don't clean up after them! Things to make it better would be Wifi. The digital phone network is sketchy. EE 3/4g was not available. O2 seems to be the strongest provider. There's Wifi available in the pub next door.

Jannine the owner was very helpful and gave us some great tips on where to visit and places to eat. The apartment was spotless and perfect for myself, my husband and Monty the dog. Comfy sofa, Comfy bed, nice and quite, great kitchen, powerful shower, everything you could need was there and Monty enjoyed his complementary chews!. • "Having booked a downstairs harbour apartment we could not have had a better view of the harbour."

Whilst this was great at first, it soon became apparent that every dog walker, hiker and passer by could not resist staring through our living room window. As we have a nervous rescue dog this caused him to bark at every person passing. To prevent this we had to close our roller blinds. In late afternoon the roller blinds were no good in direct sunlight. We would recommend an upstairs apartment to any pet owners. If you have a 50 inch plasma tv you will struggle with the small tv in the living area. Isle of Whithorn is a lovely fishing village with a pub and a post office. If you are looking for a quiet, clean self catering apartment the moorings is the place to stay. However, be careful when exiting the rear car park as drivers pass by at excessive speed for the road conditions. A 10 mph limit needs to be set or else an accident is just waiting to happen .

About the location

ISLE OF WHITHORN

Whithorn 4 miles; Garlieston 7 miles, Wigtown 14 miles; Newton Stewart 22 miles.

Referred to locally as 'The Isle', the Isle of Whithorn is designated an outstanding conservation area. The graceful crescent of shore and neat houses that make up the harbour presents a perfect spectacle in any camera’s viewfinder. Already in existence 1600 years ago, the community was at the very beginning of Scotland’s Christian history when Ninian, Scotland’s first missionary and saint, founded his church at Whithorn. The Isle Church itself, a former Free Kirk, stands prominent in defiance of the highest of tides. The Isle harbour, once the host of cargoes of coal, fertiliser and timber is now busy throughout the year with local boats fishing for crabs and lobsters, as well as catches of scallops brought in by the visiting Manx fleet. However, some of the best goes straight in through the doors of the award-winning Steam Packet Inn on the waterfront! Take a walk along the Harbour and enquire about local sea-angling opportunities. At the end of the Harbour, follow the signs for St Ninian’s Chapel and shortly you’ll come to the Witness Cairn. Just a short distance away stands the 14th century ruin of St Ninian’s Chapel, once a place where pilgrims were welcomed and now in the care of Historic Scotland. It’s an easy climb up the Cairn to the distinctive white tower which has been a mariner’s landmark for close on two centuries. At the top you can behold the majestic expanse of the Solway and the Irish Sea. Across the water lie the great peaks of Cumbria’s Lake District, while due south lies the Isle of Man, its nearest point just 18 miles away. The Isle is a welcoming port for visiting leisure sailors and bowlers too. So please bring your boat and your bowls! At the Isle you will discover a tranquil place that is much more than just a view. Welcome to the Isle!
