We found it spotlessly clean and with every facility. The welcome pack generous and thoughtful. The bungalow is well situated to explore the whole area with quiet roads and stunning scenery. Highly recommended.

Ideally positioned for visiting many places of interest within one hour journey time. Bonus for us was a very good week of weather, only one wet day. Would happily return.

"The Paddock is a lovely bungalow close to beautiful and stunning countryside."
Kirkgowan is a small and quite village with one small (friendly) shop. Sykes description of the property describes the nearest pub, The Craighlaw Arms Hotel, a 200-year old coaching inn, as been .3 of a mile from The Paddock. This is not correct. The Craighlaw has been closed for a year! The nearest pub/cafeis at least 8 miles away. We picked The Paddock over another property, which was situated 'in the country', because on holiday we like to have a 'local' for an occassional meal out, and to socialise, without the need to use a car. We have tried to raise the above with Sykes but their site is not user friendly when it comes to submitting complaints. The Paddock itself is a fine property. But we believe Sykes description of properties etc should provide a true representation. The Paddock has only been available to rent this year. The Craighlaw has been closed as a pub since last year: so it appears Sykes knew before they listed the property.

"We arrived to a very warm welcome and a card saying we were the Paddock's first guests!"
The house is pristine. The beds are comfy and a good nights sleep was had by all. The kitchen has everything you could need and was well organised. There is a great games cupboard, which we didn't have time to look at sadly. A trip to Wigtown is a must for any book lovers. One of the best holiday homes we have stayed in. We will most likely be back! We only wished we could have stayed longer and that the sun had made more of an appearance.

About the location
KIRKCOWAN
Newton Stewart 7 miles; Wigtown 8 miles.
Kirkcowan is a rural village in Wigtownshire in Dumfries and Galloway, set in the rolling Galloway countryside at the confluence of two salmon rivers, the Bladnoch and the Tarf. The village is named after a church, or kirk, whose churchyard hosts an interesting collection of headstones dating from the 1700s. In the 1800s, there was a healthy weaving industry here and a water-powered mill to help process the woollen cloth. The village today has a shop, a Post Office, church, children's play area, bowling green, village hall, doctor’s surgery, bicycle hire and the Craighlaw Arms Hotel, a 200-year old coaching inn. The nearby town of Newton Stewart has a sports centre, cinema, museum, library, hospital, supermarkets, shops and restaurants. Popular with walkers and anglers, Kirkcowan is situated on the 25-mile Yellow Cycle Route of the National Cycle Route 7, also making it a good holiday base for cyclists. It is surrounded by a network of quiet lanes, ideal for cycling, and for the more adventurous, it’s just 10 miles from the renowned Seven Stanes mountain biking trails of Galloway Forest Park. The Machars Peninsula has a varied coastline, including coastal grazing marshes and sandy beaches. It incorporates Wigtown, Scotland’s Book Town, as well as ancient Whithorn and its priory. Here you can discover the story of St Ninian who established Whithorn as his base, when he introduced Christianity to Scotland at the end of the 4th century. Wildlife abounds in the area, with opportunities to spot ospreys, red kites, deer and red squirrels, and you can also enjoy stargazing, as some of the darkest skies in Europe can be seen here. With superb walking, cycling and horse riding opportunities to be found across the peninsula, as well as excellent coarse fishing on the nearby Glendarroch Loch, there is much on offer for the visitor to this distinctive and varied part of the country.
