  • "A very spacious apartment in the middle of a lovely small town."

The fascinating history of the town and its art work are well displayed.Great walking around the town and a short drive to coastal walks at the Isle of Whithorn and Portpatrick and inland at the Gatehouse of Fleet and Moffat. We found a couple of good restaurants still open in November and really fresh local seafood delivery on Thursday and Friday. We were very warm and comfortable and would certainly recommend this stay in Kirkcudbright. Peter and Toni Sydney

  • "An immaculate flat with a lot of thoughtful touches."

Loved the big rooms and comfortable beds. Location ideal for the town Didn't like the entrance through the lane which was ugly nor the stairs. As older people found the painted walls and ceilings dark and unappealing. Would have appreciated a shelf for soap and shampoo in shower. Overall positive and thanks

Location was perfect for us, central Kirkudbright with all facilities just on the doorstep and lovely walks from the flat. We felt welcome right from the second we walked in (and we saw ' Mac the highland cow looking down at us from the top of the stairs'), the owner leaving us a bottle of wine, milk, biscuits, tea and coffee - Thank you so much, 100% looking forward to a return visit :)

  • "When I was looking to book a cottage with Sykes Cottages I kept coming back to 1 Mews Lane in Kirkcudbright."

I stayed here with my husband and a friend of ours. It is in a beautiful little town and we could access the local amenities very easily. We had a few walks about Kirkcudbright and we were able to use public transport very easily as well. I would certainly recommend coming to this peaceful part of Scotland to anybody - 1 Mews Lane is just in the right place and it was a shame we had to go home.

Fab touch re the welcome goodies left - wine, milk, shortbread, tea, coffee. These were all much appreciated. Lovely tasteful decor. Extremely spacious rooms. Great location in the town. Easy parking right beside the building. Would definitely come back. Nothing to do with the property but the local recycling could be better - recycling facilities at the harbour were only for glass and cans so brought our other recycling home.

The location is great and furnished very tastefully. Loved sitting in the window seat in the lounge looking out into the main street! The bed was very comfortable in the main bedroom and although not a problem felt that the couch in there took up room that could have been better utilised. Everything we needed was in the well equipped kitchen but the lighting over the worktops and in general could be better. The wine, milk coffee and biscuits (and face masks) left on our arrival was very much appreciated. Thank you. One other small point would be that the shower cabinet in looking tired and could benefit from an uplift.

  • "The apartment is extremely spacious, comfortable and clean with quality furnishings."

Bed and sofas very comfortable. Perfectly situated for exploring Kirkcudbright and beyond. The garage was a bonus. Very quiet area and no excessive noise from the front road. It was lovely to find fresh flowers in the kitchen, lovely soap in the bathroom, tea coffee and nice biscuits and water and wine on our arrival. A very welcoming start to our stay. If I were to be extremely critical, I would suggest that a few more coat hangers..... I never pack lightly ......were provided, and that as the kitchen could easily accommodate it, perhaps a bigger fridge freezer would be welcome ( the current fridge has only a small ice box). I also think that it would be better if the bedroom which has the chair in it would be better served by a dressing table ( better for doing hair etc). Other than those minor points..... fabulous!

All of that you can see from the listing though. What was less obvious and really nice when we were there was the attention to detail, with nice finishings and a well equipped kitchen that made it easier to self cater in the apartment. Amy was very approachable and helpful when we got in touch, which made it all the more relaxing.

There were two small contentions about this flat. Although we knew that it did not have a bath, I personally missed it. There was room for a bath however I suspect the poor water pressure might be an issue. The road was noisy for the front bedroom. Vehicular access was at the back of the building and if the bowling club was busy, inconsiderate people blocked access to the properties' garage.

The photos of the interior don't do it justice - it is a very well furnished property with lovely features. Very comfy beds, state of the art tv and lots more space than was expected. The owners also left us a bottle of wine which we thought was a very nice touch. Place was very clean and tidy, and the owners were very quick to respond to one query we had around parking (which garage we had access to). We were already familiar with Kirkcudbright which is a very nice harbour town, we will certainly be staying at this property again the future and whileheartedly recommend it.

About the location

KIRKCUDBRIGHT

Dumfries 25 miles.

The historic and picturesque town of Kirkcudbright sits on the banks of the River Dee on the north Solway coast. Established as a Royal Burgh in 1455 this small port town has always been supported by a busy fishing trade and is home to a blue flag marina. Behind this working harbour, its wide streets and pastel-coloured houses, a mix of Georgian and Victorian town houses make for a very attractive town centre. Particular places of interest are the Tolbooth Museum, Broughton House and Gardens (National Trust for Scotland), the Stewartry Museum, MacLellan's Castle, and the newly refurbished town Art Gallery. Kirkcudbright is also known as the 'Artists' Town'. From the 1870s onwards the town has both produced and attracted a wide range of talented artists and crafts people, and there is a fine collection of art galleries and arts and crafts shops. If you want your holiday to include some breaks from cooking you will find plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from, including the historic Selkirk Arms Hotel, and, near the harbour, Polar Bites, a very good fish restaurant as well as being a takeaway. Throughout the summer the town organises a wide range of activities including the four day Arts and Crafts Trail, four-day Jazz Festival, a weekly Scottish night with pipe band and dancing (especially for children), weekly town tours, farmers markets, a vintage car rally... the list is endless. Visitors can also use the town's swimming pool, bowling club, golf club and tennis courts. Further afield there is the Galloway Activity Centre on beautiful Loch Ken, which offers a range of water sports, or perhaps best of all are the opportunities for walking, cycling, fishing, or just driving along the coasts and in the hills and valleys in some of Scotland's loveliest unspoilt scenery.
