It was beautifully furnished and well equipped. The bottle of wine and shortbread biscuits were a thoughtful welcome gift. We may well return at a future date.

  • "We loved Parliament Cottage."

It is the best small cottage we have stayed in. Beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean, quirky layout, quality kitchen equipment and the location is excellent if you want to limit your use of the car. Great walks from the door.

We thoroughly enjoyed our break - the cottage was really comfortable and relaxing - wood burner was excellent - local shops were good and Co-Op a 10 min walk away - one thing the owners should promote more is there outside patio area which was a real sun trap - even has an outside fire for when the sun went down

Lots of walks of different lengths and types all from walking distance of the front door with information about them in the property. The property is beautiful with very tastful decor; kitchen has everything you would need and more great quality everything and the garden is a brilliant sun trap in the evenings which is perfect.

  • "I was a bit surprised to see the cupboards and freezer full of the previous tenants food and we had very little space to put our stuff."

The dishwasher isn’t fit for purpose as the door doesn’t fully open and therefore the bottom shelf is difficult to use. However, even if we managed to put a plate in there they are too big and couldn’t be used!

  • "We absolutely loved our stay at Parliament cottage."

The cottage was even lovelier than we expected. It is so warm, cosy and comfortable. The nice addition of having robes was a lovely touch. The location is great for exploring the local area. There are a couple of nice pubs within a minute's walk! We will definitely recommend the cottage to friends and hope to do a return visit at some point. The service we got from Sykes when we had a minor query was faultless. Thanks to everyone for making an anniversary weekend away so special!

  • "The cottage was outstanding."

It was comfortable and cosy with high quality furnishings ie beds, duvets, kitchen items etc. The location of the cottage is ideal for amenities but you are still in a quiet location. The owners of the cottage were lovely and nothing was to much trouble for them. It is the best Sykes cottage we have stayed in. We will visit again.

About the location

Lockerbie 18 miles; Carlisle 19 miles; Hawick 23 miles.

Langholm is a burgh on the River Esk in Dumfries and Galloway. From Mesolithic Man 9000 years ago, through Roman occupation to the notorious Border Reivers around the 16th century, Langholm has much history to share. The town developed around the textile industry, achieving a worldwide reputation for its woollens, expanding its population and earning the nickname of the ‘Muckle Toon’, or the Large Town. Langholm is also famous as the birthplace of Hugh MacDiarmid, the poet and Thomas Telford who was born just outside the town and after whom a road in the town is named. An unused Episcopalian church was converted into the Armstrong clan museum and was visited by astronaut Neil Armstrong in 1972 when he was made a freeman of the burgh. The town also hosts festivals for music, food and arts and the annual Common Riding draws many visitors. Within easy reach is Lockerbie, home to a good selection of bars and shopping facilities, as well as a jazz festival. A short drive from Langholm in the River Esk Valley is the Kagyu Samye Ling, the first Tibetan Buddhist Centre established in the West. As well as offering residential retreats, day visitors are welcome all year round to explore the temple or relax in the peace gardens and grounds.
