Everything you could wish for in comfort and cleanliness. It was in a lovely position with views out to the countryside but the only downfall we found was no privacy in the garden! We didn’t need to use the patio area or the bbq but during good weather could see it could be an issue!

It's a lovely house with everything you need and very dog friendly. Furniture and bed very comfortable, lovely and warm with plenty of hot water and everything very clean. Local (dog) walks are really nice and it's only a 5 minute drive to the facilities in Stranraer. We will definitely book Marbeth for our next stay in Galloway.

House was everything we needed. Clean and comfortable and not too far away from days out to Portpatrick and Stranraer where we enjoyed walking along the sea front and stopping off for nice food and coffee. We enjoyed relaxing and where the house was was lovely and quiet. We didn't meet the owners but they phoned a few times before our trip to confirm a few things. They were really nice and helpful and the house just felt so homely. We would definitely stay again!

  • "This was our third visit to Marbeth and the beautiful surrounding area."

As usual, the house was immaculately presented and formed the comfortable and homely base for our stay. With local amenities and Aldouran Glen mere footsteps away, we couldn't wish for more. In addition, the location forms a perfect base for short travel to Kirroughtree, Glentrool, Mabie and Dalbeattie, all of which offer fantastic walks and mountain bike trails. Our particular favourite being Kirroughtree Forest, where the stunning views and breathtaking setting created the opportune backdrop for a marriage proposal - what could be better? From Marbeth, travel to Broadsea Bay, Port Patrick, Port Logan and the Mull of Galloway are all very reasonable and each location gives stunning scenery and a relaxing atmosphere. Similarly, Port Logan Fish Pond, Logan Botanical Gardens and Glenwhan Gardens are well worth a visit for their tranquil and calm environment. We have yet to be disappointed by this idyllic area of the country and will certainly return to Marbeth soon.

The house was situated in a quiet village outside Stranraer perfect for dog walking. The house was so comfortable and warm especially because the weather was not brilliant. Everything in the house had been carefully chosen to make it feel like your own home for the duration of the holiday. I would thoroughly recommend the house and the area to visit a number of places of interest. We would visit again if we could. Murphy our dog loved it too!!

  • "Lovely, well equipped holiday home."

When we entered the property we were welcomed with a greeting card, fresh flowers, chocolates, oatcakes, tea selection, biscuits and milk in the fridge! This is above and beyond anything we have previously booked. In addition the owners Sharon and Graham turned up to great us and check if we needed anything which whilst wasn't essential, is a very lovely way to personalise the booking and holiday experience. The house was well situated especially for our young children (4yr old and a 20mth old). Play park is about a 1 minute walk from the house and a 'Gruffalo trail' is about a 5 minute walk away in Aldouran wood. There are also some feeder stations for birds and red squirrels which are regularly frequented. Stranraer is only a 10 minute drive away and has a wonderful park (Agnew Park) which has mini train rides, go karts and pirate sand pit area. Our eldest was asking to go back again and again here. There are some quiet beaches in this area too. We went to Lady Bay (bit tricky to drive down to), Port Patrick and our favorite Port Logan. The house itself has a good sized garden which is secure with the driveway gate. Rolling countryside view to the rear with Tor O Craig monument lining the horizon for the sunsets. Well equipped kitchen too with everything you would generally need. Overall we have been greatly impressed and certainly be looking to book this property again when we decide to return to this area.

The cottage was very clean & tidy with loads of info on the local area. We were so comfortable there, it was like sleeping in a 5* hotel, the best nights sleep I’ve had in a long time. The owners, Sharon & Graham had thought of everything, even putting down food dishes for my dog also dog treats in a jar. They had fresh cut flowers in the dining area, they were very thoughtful. • "This was a really enjoyable experience and I recommend the accommodation for its facilities, location and willingness to accept dogs."

Despite the owner telling Sykes on a number of occasions that the village does not have a pub, this amenity is still advertised. There is no pub in the village. There are pubs within driving distance and very nice they were, especially The Crown in Portpatrick about 20 minutes drive away. The area is extremely picturesque and despite Stranraer having seen 'better' days it is still a pleasant town to visit with everything you might need, including a sea front. Shopping can be done at either Tesco's or Morrison's, with the later having a good value petrol station. A great family + dog friendly holiday home and location. Others have mentioned the dogs either side of the property, yes they do bark, but only when you pull onto the drive but remain quiet after you enter the cottage. They are not a problem in my opinion.

The house was very well presented and we felt as if we were at home. In addition, the garden was a great area to relax and have a BBQ, where the dog could play and make friends with the neighbours' dogs through the fence, and deer could be seen in the field behind us. Furthermore, the setting is ideal, with Aldouran Glen a very short walk from the front door, a lovely stroll through a peaceful wooded valley (complete with Gruffalo). The village itself is very quiet with friendly neighbours, sociable dogs and a helpful village shop. There are a variety of easily accessible day trips including Port Logan, Port Patrick and Galloway Forest which are appropriate for any age. This is definitely a holiday we would repeat and have already booked in for next year.

  • "Marbeth is a lovely well equipped house."

Excellent facilities. Brilliant comfy beds. Great shower. With out a shadow of doubt the best self catering house we have stayed in. Spotlessly clean. Welcome pack and every extra you could think of. I would say best suited to people with experience of dogs as there are dogs in most of the properties around including both neighbours and if you are not dog lovers they are little bit in your face. BUT they only make a noise when you arrive home. Please bear mind this is a residential area with ‘real’ people who may enjoy the odd drink and loud music but this doesn’t detract from the overall experience. Lovely owners. We enjoyed our stay and would revisit if we visit Stranraer again. Nice location close to town. Loads of stuff to do in the area. Lovely doggy walks in the area. Aldouran gardens over the road were lovely and Harry loved his walkies!!!!!! Recommended.

  • "Holiday cottage very comfortable, and well presented."

However, the only disappointment were the dogs either side of the property which were continually barking, which we found very intrusive when trying to relax in the garden. *****Owner Response***** Thank you for your feedback regarding the neighbouring dogs. We are so sorry this is negative although your email was positive and you commented you had such a lovely time. We do state in the house information folder that the dogs on either side are friendly and that one is just a pup and both respond when spoken to. There may have been a clash of personality between your dog Holly and the dogs and I can only sincerely apologise for this.
