  • "Very Lovely Cottage and surroundings."

The quiet in the countryside in this cottage is tranquil, with rushing water by the side. The lack of WIFI was soon forgotten by the kids after 2 days :). Love the cottage, the owner was responsive and immediately at available to answer any queries. Will love to visit again during the Winter months.

  • "Smithy Cottage was first class and proved an enjoyable visit."

Only two comments to make. (a) lack of instruction details for the Induction oven and also the sophisticated washing machine. We finally overcame the hob problem but decided that the Samsung washer was beyond our limit of digital reasoning and (b) no wi-fi. Otherwise, the situation was perfect for our visit to south-west Scotland.

  • "The listing was described as Detached on your website, I queried it prior to departure and you said it was however it is attached to another property so a semi."

The property was to a very high standard except the central heating which failed twice. It was frosty so needed but it also heats the water. If you want a quiet place with dark sky and super garden then I would recommend this property very highly. The worst thing about the area is the state of the roads, even A roads have big potholes and the council are letting the area down in a big way. This is a real issue for this property as it's off the beaten track and you need to drive more or use a bike.

Thank you for your feedback. I can confirm the property is detached, although there is an adjacent property which is clearly shown in the photographs. The two properties are not adjoined and are definitely not semi detached. Regarding the central heating, this is serviced and on a service contract. The issue with the boiler cutting out was fixed the same day the fault was reported. Thank you for your comments regarding the roads, we agree they need maintenance however this does not have an impact on the property and is a not a localised problem, but a nationwide issue. • "A superb cottage in a nice quiet location - the perfect place to spend our Ruby wedding anniversary."

The cottage is very well equipped and has been renovated to a very high standard whilst the orchard/garden only adds to its charm. I would highly recommend it. And if you are into star gazing then this is the place for you due to its close proximity to the Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park - thoroughly enjoyable.

  • "The cottage was beautiful."

The renovation from a former smithy was exceptional. The location was perfect, a lovely garden, easy access, room to park, neighbours who waved and smiled !!!! Perfect for walking, beaches, gardens etc. It was cosy & warm, had everything you need for a stay away. No complaints.

Thank you very much for your kind feedback, we are very pleased you enjoyed your stay and hopefully welcome you again soon. Kind regards Property Owner

  • "We found the cottage well equipped, clean and comfortable."

We think the fact that it doesn't have Wi-fi should be made clear although it didn't really bother us. Due to a short power cut before our arrival it had affected the TV and we couldn't get it to work . Just a quick phone call to Johnathon and he arranged for someone to come and fix it the following morning. Also we had left a phone charger after our departure and he very kindly posted it out to us. We really cannot fault our stay at Smithy Cottage it was a great base for our week stay.

  • "The property listing needs attention."

There is a washing machine which is a bonus . There is a fridge, no freezer. There is only one sofa in the living room. I'm not sure what is meant by a double shower but the shower is a rather underpowered electric one. As there is no WiFi (expected) I think that it should be made clear that there is also no mobile phone signal.

Many thanks for your comments and we're pleased the washing machine was a success. The fridge in the kitchen has an icebox, but there is also a tabletop size freezer in the utility area. We give our contact numbers out pre arrival and are always happy to answer any questions during guest stays as are Sykes with a dedicated phone line and out of hours service-we would certainly have let you know where it was if we'd known you hadn't spotted it and we're so sorry you didn't get the use of it at the time. Thank you for letting us know and we will add the locations of them into the advert to help future guests. The shower is the well known Mira brand, it has been checked and fully functional - it is larger than a single, but we will change the advert wording from 'double' to 'large'. We have been as transparent as possible with the advert pictures which show a sitting room and a conservatory, both have a sofa and two armchairs each. We do appreciate that with a stone property a mobile signal in a rural location can be intermittent and area specific, plus it also depends on the mobile network itself so unfortunately there can be times when a signal is weaker than we would like but regrettably outside our control. We generally don't have guests raising it as an issue and we do hope that the tranquility and peaceful area makes up for this - we're glad that you had a signal to be able to phone us on arriving at the property so we could get you in and welcomed and thank you for your understanding regarding that. We don't advertise the property as having wifi, although this is something we will be considering moving forwards for guest convenience and thank you very much for the suggestion. Thank you also for the 4/4 cleanliness score you gave us as we pride ourselves on having a spotless property and look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "Beautifully restored cottage, so well equipped, we were in want for nothing."

The quiet ambiance of the garden with all the little birds flitting about alongside the babbling brook made us want to be there in summer to enjoy the garden to its fullest. The wood fire made the cottage exceedingly warm and cosy and the wood pile was generously stocked. As a base to see the Galloway attractions it was central and convenient. Thanks Johnathan, this is one of the nicest cottages we've ever stayed in!

  • "Would have been nice to have WiFi, No starter pack for wood burner plus still full of ash from previous people."

No means to clean out wood burner as there were no tools. No towels provided but bed linen was acceptable? Throws on furniture had they been cleaned from the people who had the cottage the week before?

Many thanks for your feedback and we are looking into the possibility of introducing wifi in the future. The wood burner ash is left as there needs to be an ash base for the starting it up again on the next visit. We can completely reassure all guests that we have several sets of throws on rotation so that we can take throws out and replace with clean throws for the next guest and would have advised you of that if we had known you had any questions about that. We do apologise that at the time of your visit we had removed towels - guidance at the time suggested this was the responsible thing to do for guest safety in the covid situation. From April this year we are providing them again but of course guests are always welcome to let us know if they prefer to bring their own when we contact them ahead of their visit with key details. Our holiday home, Smithy Cottage, was a characterful, well equipped cottage in an idyllic rural setting. The owners have an eye for detail and we wanted for nothing. The cottage was clean, warm and welcoming. The garden, woods and birdlife were delightful and we enjoyed sitting outside and walking around the land belonging to the cottage. A very enjoyable stay.
