  • "We had a bumpy start to our holiday here in more ways than one!"

Firstly, the almost half-mile access track from the main road is ATROCIOUS- in any normal-sized family car (we have a Fiesta) you will be crawling along at 4MPH and desperately avoiding the constant potholes and trying not to scrape your underside or catch your tyres on the myriad large stones. This was our biggest negative from our stay and sadly, would likely put us off coming back. The next issue was that due to a 'mix up', our cottage had not been cleaned for our arrival, and indeed the previous occupants (and their dog) had left us some nasty surprises. However, once we had found the lady owner, she was full of apologies and she and her team set about giving the place a good clean straight away, which we were happy to wait for. Sadly the hot tub was empty so would not be useable that first night, but we were promised some money back via Sykes, which was processed and dealt with while were still there- can't fault that. So, bumpy start dealt with, we were in! The cottage is a lovely size and well enough appointed for four (we were just a couple). The view out the back across the estuary towards Kippford is lovely, and once up to temperature the next morning, we enjoyed several dips in the hot tub (which is not the one pictured here). TIP- if the night is clear, stargaze from the tub in the dark- it is amazing, we saw the Milky Way above us and several shooting stars- quite magical. Many people have complained about Wi-Fi on site- being more realistic I didn't expect any and indeed, there was just 4G indoors and some 5G outdoors. There was no info about anything else in the cottage. TV channels are limited to a few basics on Freeview, though there was a small DVD player that we didn't use. You're on a farm, so expect a few animal noises. The bed was comfy enough but not the best, and the entire cottage creaks like you wouldn't believe- if you're up in the night, everyone will know about it! Overall we really enjoyed our stay- it was a good base for Dumfries, Dalbeattie, and the surrounding area- and we appreciated the speedy resolution to the initial problems; too many people would have really kicked off about that but the owner was lovely and we don't mind a bit of give and take.

  • "Cottage and hot tub were fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay."

A few little additions to the cottage to think about ....a long handle sweeping brush or hoover and a clothes maiden or washing line and pegs would have really helped. I am sure we will be back in the future for another great stay. Thank you.

  • "The cottage has No wifi at all which I think should be listed on the description."

It states intermittent however during our whole stay there was no wifi available. It’s not a bad thing not having it but I think it should be stated. Cleanliness there were two hairs in our shower so nothing major but just attention to detail.

  • "Excellent everything was spotless and nothing was to much trouble for the owner."

The cottage had a wonderful outlook and it was lovely staying on a working farm. The cottage was very cosy with the added bonus of a log burner and the hot tub. Our fur babies thoroughly enjoyed the walks and the scenery round about was breathtaking. We arrived at Dalbeattie early as our journey went very smoothly, we phoned the owners and they very kindly had our cottage ready early for us everything was first class. We had a wonderful break

  • "Really enjoyed our stay at sweetheart cottage."

The owner was friendly and helpful and the cottage was very clean. Our only quibble is that we feel that there should have been more information about what was not provided such as a hairdryer and basic condiments as salt and vinegar and also washing up liquid, as we have always found these are provided by other holiday rentals. If we had known these weren’t provided, we would have brought these with us.

We arrived late and Alex the caretaker showed us to our cottage,a lovely welcome box greeted us. I would recommend to family and friends.

  • "This wee cottage is gorgeous, cosy and clean."

The guy who met us was really friendly and helpful. The cheeky chickens coming to the door were a joy and kept my son busy! The hot tub was good fun even in the October weather. The WiFi is rubbish if that’s what you’re looking for but we kept busy exploring the local area so it didn’t matter. We’d definitely recommend this wee place!

So cosy with the log burner and the luxury toiletries were a lovely extra treat! The location is idyllic and the hot tub a fantastic welcome bonus at the end of some fabulous days walking. The perfect place to chill.

  • "A very nicely designed and presented property in a lovely rural location, other cottages close by in the same farm, but enough privacy to enjoy your own cottage."

Chap that has the farm very friendly and approachable if you needed anything but never interfered with your holiday. Dishwasher and Washing machine in the house. I know some the usual stuff might have been taken out like cushions I presume in line with the COVID obligations on the owners but the cottage was comfortable and any essential were easily available in the Tesco a 20 min drive away in the next wee town. Ours was a four person cottage, 2 singles and another room with a double. En-suite in one bedroom and other just over the hall from the bathroom. Warm and cosy, with central heating and option of lighting the stove. All four of us would like to book again sometime, and one of our group who suggested it had already been several times over the years.

  • "The cottage was amazing."

I believe the hoots did not do justice of the cottage. it was very clean and warm inside. the only issue we had was we had booked the cottage for only 2 nights and we had to wait hours for the jacuzzi to heat up. we were unable to use the jacuzzi on the first night.

Thank you for your feedback and I am glad you found the property clean and warm. Sometimes the hot tub will not have reached temperature on arrival due to the Covid Health and Safety measures in place to keep guests safe which we appreciate has more of an impact when you are only staying for 2 nights.
