Newton Stewart makes the perfect stop for all of your amenities, hosting a rich history which can be discovered in the Whithorn Dig Visitor Centre presenting excavated wonders from over the years, as well as in The Museum, while you will also find a good selection of shops and eateries settled along the scenic waterfront of the River Cree too.

Known as 'the Gateway to the Galloway Hills', you can expect to find plenty of scenic wonder around the town, with mountain biking, hill walking and fishing all being readily available, as well as there being plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife outside of the cottage's back garden and stargazing amidst the park's dark skies too, making it the perfect day trip at any time of the year.

The market town of Newton Stewart, famous for its salmon and trout fishing, lies in a superb location between the serene rolling countryside of the Machars to the south and the Galloway Forest Park to the north. The area is steeped in history. The first Christian missionary to Scotland landed at The Machars, founding the first church in AD 397 in Whithorn. The Whithorn Dig Visitor Centre lies on the site and displays material dug up over years of excavations. The beautiful coastline is a mixture of sandy beaches and rocky shores teeming with birdlife, whilst inland there is superb walking country to be discovered in the Galloway Hills and Forest Park. Sailing, riding and fishing are all available locally and there are plenty of excellent courses to keep the keen golfer busy.
