“We found Kellocks Cottage a great little base for hiking in the Lowther Hills, and visiting Moffat and Thornhill.”

Coming back to the log burner in the cottage after some cold February days was a treat. The owner Danny was really helpful before, during and after our stay.

The property

Set in the charming village of Wanlockhead, close to Leadhills, in Scotland, is this old miners property, Kellocks Cottage.

This heart-warming retreat has been extensively renovated into a stylish and contemporary base for couples.

Entering the property, be welcomed into a cosy open-plan living space, complete with a sofa and armchair where you can curl up with you partner whilst a roaring woodburning stove encased in a delightful brick inglenook fireplace keeps you nice and toasty.

Tune into the TV for your favourite evening shows; or break open the popcorn and indulge in a romantic movie.

Gather at the dining table for a hearty breakfast whilst planning the day's events, or use this as a quiet space for some reading.

The kitchen itself has glossy cream units and sleek wooden worktops housing all the necessary appliances for cooking, whilst still retaining some of its character with exposed brick tiles as feature walls.

The charm continues in the ground floor shower room with its feature slate walls, paying homage to the cottage's miner history.

Gold panning in the nearby waters has also been a popular activity for visitors in this area, as large nuggets of gold has been found by some very shocked gold panning enthusiasts to date.

As the evening draws to a close, retire to the king-size bedroom which comes with all the furniture needed for storing your personal belongings and matching bedside tables and lamps for some late night reading.

The bedroom also has velux windows which showcase the wide, expansive countryside surrounding, the perfect idyllic setting to wake up to each morning.

There is a small enclosed gravelled area to the rear which has plenty of seating so you can enjoy the fresh country air with a refreshing beverage or dine alfresco.

Kellocks Cottage is in the highest village in Scotland, home to a delightful pub called Wanlockhead Inn, whilst the nearest convenience store is also be found for all the essentials.

Visit Leadhills Golf Club with 9-hole courses which challenges for even the most experienced golfers to defeat the high winds.

If you're looking for places to shop, visit the towns of Biggar and Moffat, as well as Dumfries.

For a spot of history Drumlanrig Castle and County Estate is perfect for those outdoor enthusiasts to get involved with walking, cycling and fishing.

Kellocks Cottage is the ultimate holiday destination for couples.
