  • "Some items not clean, predominantly in kitchen."

Hot tub disappointing, we spent two hours trying to keep kindle alight but there was insufficient kindle so we were unsuccessful in trying the hot tub experience. We were given to understand in your advertising that there was a pub within 1-2 minute walk but couldn't locate it. Locals told us there was no working pub. It transpires there's a desolate and unkempt building within a 2 minute walk. No beer, no wine, no food, nobody! The people and nearby harbours were so nice and welcoming, it was just so unfortunate that I couldn't relax and enjoy a couple of drinks because of the need to drive there. I gave feedback to Chloe before we left and she said she would address the issues. Chloe did say she would give me a taxi telephone number but taxis costs are not within our budget especially as we had already paid £640 for the week's rental which I feel was excessively overpriced. As my friend pushed the key through the letterbox on our departure I realised my mobile phone was charging in the house! I contacted Chloe and she very kindly contacted her husband who came to my rescue and let me in to retrieve the phone and charger. What a gentleman.

  • "The Old Bakery is compact and uses space cleverly."

It provides a basic level of comfort and convenience. Whithorn is charming and quirky, an excellent base for exploring the Machar Peninsula. More crocks, cutlery and glassware please. The Sykes booking option of a range of dates made search for property so much easier, great feature.

Great coastal roads and superb golf courses within easy reach. Chloe was easy to communicate with and very helpful. Excellent hot tub!

  • "The host is exceptional, we felt able to contact with any query and received friendly, timely replies each time."

The hot tub is wonderful, if you aren’t an experienced fire-lighter read the comments book for top tips. We got it going no problem and the chap who supplies the wood was a star delivering additional bags to the free wood supplied. The flat is cosy and well equipped. Heating does a cracking job when needed. The bedroom is a tad awkward as there is limited space down one side only. We really appreciated the host’s attention to detail in creating a comfortable space overall. Milk in the fridge, a bottle of wine and muffins when we arrived were a lovely touch. The location for exploring this beautiful peninsula is spot on. Short journeys to all sorts of interesting and lovely places.

We had a wonderful time. Hot tub was fantastic. Would highly recommend for a relaxing break.

  • "The cottage needs some work doing, eg."

Glazing units need replaced, areas of floor need looked at. The description of the fridge freezer is wrong its a fridge with a small freezer compartment. The hot tub needs a proper cover. Apart from these niggles everything else was fine, We would recommend the Steam packet in the Isle of whithorn and the harbour Inn at garlieston for eating out whenever restrictions are lifted We booked this cottage for peace and quiet and thats what we got

Every request I made or any advise I sought was always answered quickly and thoroughly. There is no shortage of walks and cycle routes and lots of opportunities for photography in the immediate and surrounding area. I would certainly recommend the old bakery for your getaway in the Dumfries and Galloway area.

  • "Very comfortable and nicely furnished, the Old Bakery was an ideal base for exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside of the Machars."

Situated on the main street of the quiet small town of Whithorn, a few metres from the famous museum and archaeological site, there is plenty of parking by the flat. There are interesting places to visit and walk all around the area, such as Garlieston (with its excellent Rigg Bay), St. Ninians Cave, Kilsture Woods and of course Wigtown with its many bookshops. Further afield Newton Stewart has good facilities and there is excellent mountain walking around Glen Trool. The flat is well equipped, with a good kitchen and small enclosed yard (handy for dogs, which were made most welcome). The owners were brilliant, going out of their way to make sure everything was right. We'd recommend this highly.

wi fi washing machine ,well laid out kitchen and very comfortable bed. as for customer services Chloe would put many 5 star establishments to shame from the moment she welcomed us and {we found that we had forgotten our toiletries} , she arranged hair dryer ,straighteners and various potions and lotions and the added bonus of being ultra dog friendly . would heartily recomend to anybody looking for a relaxing break

  • "An absolute gem!"

I spent one of the most comfortable and relaxing weeks in this lovely little flat, situated in one of the most interesting and friendly places I have been to. The flat is perfect. It is extremely clean and very comfortable. Chloe, the owner, made the effort to come and meet with me, making sure that everything was alright for my stay. - what a lovely, lovely lady. I have stayed in many types of holiday accommodation through Sykes, and this will go to the top of my list. Needless to say, my next task is to look at the diary and work out when I can go back.

The former Royal Burgh of Whithorn on the Machars Peninsula in Dumfries and Galloway is renowned for having the first recorded Christian church is Scotland. Built by St Ninian around 397, the site of the Candida Casa, or White/Shining House, is now home to the parish church. The area of Whithorn is rich in history and is also home to a medieval priory and an archaeological site. The distinctive shape of Whithorn, with its spacious central area and narrow entrance-ways of elegant Georgian houses, displays its medieval heritage. The Machars and Rhins of Galloway are also home to spectacular gardens, a result of the Gulf Stream and mild climate.
