Accuracy of the listing

  • "Property was exactly as listed."

Gave us everything we needed for a base for the week. The owner was super helpful ahead of our visit with information about the cottage and very accommodating when we got caught in traffic so would be later to get the keys.

  • "After the booking was confirmed, I was contacted by the property key holder, who provided valued information and asked if anything was needed."

This enhanced our knowledge and provided valued information to improve our experience of the area, while staying. The property provided everything we required and felt very safe for our well behaved puppy. All facilities at the cottage were in perfect working order and found in pristine condition. Our keyholder was extremely understanding, when our arrival was delayed, by getting in touch and demonstrating empathy to our circumstance. This certainly helped get our holiday off to the best start and was greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for your kind comments. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you again. Best wishes Property Owner

  • "The house was ok, not great."

The beds were comfortable, but the house was just about clean. Cobwebs surrounded us and the floor felt gritty. The kitchen was ill equipped. Very limited crockery and cutlery. Hardly anything to use for cooking… no colander/sieve, not many serving spoons etc. The second double bedroom had zero storage so all clothes remained in the case other than a couple of rickety places to hang under a flimsy (and tiny) shelf. This house needs a washing machine. We would never stay at a house for more than a week without one, so false economy from the owner. Outside space was aplenty, but being dog friendly without being able to secure the dog in the garden wasn’t ideal (though the owner did tell us this). There wasn’t a single homely feature in the place… no games, books, ornaments, welcome pack. Wouldn’t choose to stay here again.

Thank you for your feedback with regard to the cooking items. You may remember we spoke a few times before your holiday where I informed you of the garden not being secure for your dog and also there were cooking items but not an extensive range of ovenware, however, the property does cater for a dining set of 6 including crockery, glasses, mugs, tea cups, saucepans, frying pan, egg cups, tea pot, cafetiere etc and some ovenware. During your 1 weeks stay you mentioned you would be dining out some of the time and therefore the cooking items would be acceptable. We also spoke during your 1 weeks stay where I had asked you if everything was okay with the property, to which, you acknowledged it was very nice. Had you wanted a sieve or additional serving spoons I would have been more than happy to provide these for you, it is a shame you couldn't have mentioned at the time. These will now be included in the property. There is no washing machine provided which is noted in the listing - the majority of guests over the years to The Artists Retreat haven't wanted this facility. Books, games etc aren't provided, nor listed in the description and in particular a decision was made not to provide these items due to Covid19. You will have seen from the advertising/photography with Sykes there are no ornaments in the property nor storage in the bedroom you mentioned, however, there are hooks at the back of each door for guests to use. I am sorry you experienced cobwebs in the property it was cleaned prior to your arrival however being in a rural location and a period property it is difficult to ensure you have no cobwebs throughout your stay. Hopefully the neighbours generous offering of fresh eggs made your stay welcoming. Sorry to hear you won't be returning to The Artists Retreat, however I do hope you find a holiday cottage in the future which suits your needs better. Kind regards Property Owner

Perfect location if you like solitude. Property clean and as per description.

  • "The owner met us on arrival and was very friendly and helpful."

We arrived 24 late as we had car issues, the owner was still able to meet us. We would stay at this property again if we were holidaying in this area again.

About the location

Sandringham 9 miles; Snettisham 13.4 miles; Hunstanton 17 miles.

King's Lynn is a historic, medieval port dating back to the 12th century, situated on the River Great Ouse. A treasure trove for history lovers, the town boasts grand merchant houses, art galleries and museums, and the Custom House, built by Henry Bell in 1683, which is a Grade I listed building. The town retains its original winding streets and alleys, and boasts good shopping facilities, with a combination of national retailers and specialist shops, along with a selection of pubs and restaurants. Much of the surrounding Norfolk countryside is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with the West Norfolk coastline within easy driving distance. Hunstanton, in particular, is renowned for its sunsets and lovely beaches. Boat trips are available from several points along the coast, while the Norfolk Coast Cycleway runs from King's Lynn to Cromer. The impressive Visitor Centre at The Queen's fabulous country retreat, Sandringham, is also a short drive away and well worth a visit.
