Good selection of books, some board games and DVDs. Conveniently located for the railway station and access into Cambridge. Plenty of places of interest within a few miles.

  • "Absolutely beautiful cottage in a brilliant location."

Could not fault anything but it would be nice for the owners who live next door to pop round when you arrive. Would stay again.

Thank you for the feedback. As a general rule we don't respond to comments but in this instance we will explain why we don't introduce ourselves when guests arrive. Beaumont's cottage adjoins the house next door and there is a shared front garden. We try to respect our guest's privacy, especially after a long journey, and we hope this will be reciprocated during their stay in our home. We introduce ourselves if we meet during the week, but it is quite clear that some people are uncomfortable even with this- hospitality is a fickly occupation. We are glad to hear that you had a nice stay. Property Owner

Plenty of room in an immaculate house. Everything provided for and all top class. Plenty of room and the welcome cake was a nice touch. A beautifully designed and equipped property in an ideal village. Very peaceful area with incredibly friendly locals and a lovely down to earth pub (no noise by the way despite its proximity).Beautiful walks to neighbouring village. Easy access to Trumpington Park and Ride, and to Duxford and Audley End. Foxton itself is beautiful and historic. Peaceful yet easy access to areas of interest. A fabulous place for a break. Utterly, unreservedly recommended!

Thank you for your feedback. We have had a new generation consumer unit with integral surge protector fitted into the property, as an added safety precaution for all our guests. We have contacted our electrician who will carryout an investigation to try and understand what is tripping the fuse and ensure this doesn't become a nuisance. Property Owner

We loved the area - and the train journey into Cambridge. It is very likely that Richard Beaumont was my ancestor. I left a document relating to Richard Beaumont which I discovered at the County Archives in Ely. Hope you find it interesting. My Beaumont family came from Shingay cum Wendy and Whaddon as did the Rayner family who are buried in the churchyard.

Church bells ring throughout the day, chickens cluck in the back garden. A large front garden to sit out in. • "We loved staying in this period thatched cottage which had lots of quirky nooks & crannies to explore!"

Despite the cottage's age; the facilities are modern & up to date so we wanted for nothing! We are avid geocachers so the location was perfect to complete many long trails in the area with out having to travel very far! Getting back to a warm, cosy home after walking miles was most welcome! We would recommend Sherpeth Wildlife Park for a visit which is not far from the cottage; a great small zoo with friendly staff. We had an aardvark experience which was amazing! Finally, we loved the welcome we received each morning from 'the girls', the owner's chickens who were always glad to see us! We will definitely be returning!

! You have an amazing holiday cottage. It was a perfect location for our passion of geocaching. Excellent internet and a comfortable bed (for us !!). No washing machine but all other modern conveniences whilst maintaining the period charms of an old thatched cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed our week and completed all the planned geocaching circuits. We would hope to return when there are more geocaching circuits in the area [:)] Best wishes and good health to all. Mary and Gerry

We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Beaumont's Cottage! Just a quick note to say that we do have a washing machine in the cottage - it's located in one of the cupboards in the downstairs bedroom. We hope to see you again soon! Property Owner

  • "A very nice and comfortable Cottage."

A mix of old and new, with all modern facilities. Made to feel very welcome with eggs, milk and other goodies to get me started. Thank you. My car was parked beside the house, but it felt very safe, as I could see it from the kitchen. A friendly country village, with a shop and quiet pub only doors away. A lovely base to explore Cambridge and the Countryside. I would say that the cottage is less suited for the not so mobile visitors, as there are floor level changes and the toilet area is a little narrow.

  • "The cottage is absolutely gorgeous and the extra little things like homemade preserves, eggs, cake and biscuits were a lovely surprise."

We cooked in the cottage for a number of evenings and there was all the equipment we needed to do this. Things such as having salt and pepper and toilet roll/kitchen roll for the whole stay were pleasing bonuses most cottages don't have. The cottage is spacious and provided a great base for the four of us. The pub across the road is friendly and so we enjoyed wandering over for a drink and a game of crib in the evenings. Although the cleaning standard was good overall, the kitchen sink plugholes were not as clean as you'd expect and there were cocoa pops (quite a few), from a previous visitor, stuck to one of the blankets in the downstairs bedroom. Overall, we'd definitely recommend this cottage.

It is a picturesque and historic building, which has been tastefully renovated. For both visits the cottage was spotlessly clean and had all we needed to cook meals and relax. This time it had been beautifully decorated with a Christmas tree and other trimmings, in keeping with the property. Overall it was a perfect place to celebrate my wife's 70th birthday. Holly was helpful and communicative. The cake, eggs and homemade jam and chutney were a nice touch. Overall we would thoroughly recommend.

  • "I booked this as a get away for me and my three boys rather than mixing their house and my house in Derbyshire at the current time."

They live locally to Cambridge and I lived in the area for 16 years so we know it well - this was a place for us to just chill and be together..... It is a truly wonderful place - spotlessly clean with excellent communications from the owner prior to our arrival, and also a lovely welcome pack in the kitchen on arrival. Very comfortable place to stay with enough space for me and my three boys to spread out and not be on top of each other. For three lads between 8 and 16 the excellent WiFi was a boon as they took their gamin machines!!! The kitchen is superbly equipped and this made feeding everyone easy (and cleaning up afterwards - I miss a dishawsher), though we did have a Chinese takeaway from an excellent restaurant in Great Shelford one night. The bathrooms were lovely, the beds are very comfy, and the shower is superb. As I said it was just a place for us to be together and chill rather than be tourists - but we had a day out at the Imperial war Museum at Duxford which was good fun and close by, and there are lots of National Trust properties nearby - the train makes getting to London or Cambridge easy as well. Thorough recommended by us, and saved as a place to book again :-)

Everything we could possible have needed was supplied and we were greeted by a lovely welcome of cakes and home made preserves (even to a pint of milk in he 'frig) We met the owner and his Daughter Holly, she - lives next door - and they were so pleasant and helpful. The setting is in a very pleasant village which is a good base for many local attractions such as Cambridge and Ely and for aviation enthusiasts Duxford is but a few minutes drive and the Shuttleworth Collection is also close by. There are plenty of good places to eat locally too. One stand out eatery was the Cross Keys Hotel in Saffron Walden - highly recommended ! Of course we must not forget Steve (Hollies cat) who is usually around the gardens on sunny days and enjoys a good conversation ! • "The location was ideal to visit family in Cambridge and Hitchin and to go for walks around the surrounding villages."

We also visited the Wimpole Estate, RSPB at Fowlmere and took the train to Cambridge. The cottage itself with its history (1637 carved into the plaster above the fireplace) and thatched roof and setting in Foxton made it seem something special and not just like a hotel. Careful renovation and a modern extension made it both self contained and a comfortable experience with all we needed to prepare meals instead of eating out due to Covid 19. We felt the list of extra cleaning provided to protect us from coronavirus made us feel safe. Helpful and thoughtful touches like a list of places nearby doing the "eat out to help out" scheme (had we needed it) and a local farm shop wrapped cake instead of the host's usual home baking made us feel welcomed and cared for. Foxton is an interesting historical village with plenty to see and read about in the infomation provided.

The property

Pre-dating the great fire of London and built circa 1530, this alluring, thatched cottage rests peacefully within the small village of Foxton, surrounded by Cambridgeshire countryside.

The house also predates the order by which Henry VIII commanded the use of less oak in, as shown by the large beams adding character to the interior.

Set back from the road on Foxton High Street, this cosy cottage is ideal for a family of four or a group of friends looking to tour this beautiful region.

Step into the lounge, which has a large inglenook fireplace for decoration and traditional beams, a beautiful space to relax with your loved ones in the evenings.

Rustle up a delicious, home-cooked meal in the kitchen and get together around the dining table, taking in your surroundings as you tuck in and discuss the events from your day.

Lastly, the ground floor plays host to a lovely twin room overlooking the garden and a shower room, with a walk-in shower cubicle.

Climb the enchanting, spiral staircase to the master bedroom, which has a bathroom next door for your convenience, playing host to a deep-soaking roll top bath tub.

You will see the date above the ornate fireplace in this main bedroom reads '1637', relating to the date in which the then owner, Richard Beaumont had the entire house positioned back from the road and stream that ran at the front.

Spend your summer afternoons in the small, shared cottage garden to the rear, a pleasant spot to sit with a refreshing drink after you've explored the area.

Beaumont's Cottage is set in a lovely South Cambridgeshire village, giving you easy access to both Cambridge and London Kings Cross from Foxton railway station.

There is a village pub The White Horse and a handy shop just a few steps along the high street, as well as a village cricket pitch, a football pitch and a children's playground.

Interestingly, the nearby village of Barrington has a historic pub, The Royal Oak, which boasts of being a stop-by point by Charles II.

You are also close to Duxford Aerodrome with its flying displays and plane collections, several National Trust properties are in the area, including Wimpole Hall Farm, and there is also the Shepreth Wildlife Park for a day out with the kids.

The cultural, university city of Cambridge offers so much more, with its remarkable architecture and plethora of pubs, shops and eateries to indulge.

Experience a well-earned rest at this beautiful, thatched cottage with your loved ones.

FOXTON, CAMBRIDGESHIRE

Shepreth 1.5 miles; Cambridge 6 miles

Foxton is a charming South Cambridgeshire village boasting a myriad of well-preserved 15th and 16th century houses, along with a church dedicated to St. Laurence, dating back to at least 1225. The village is home to a public house, a shop and a mainline rail station taking you to London via the nearby village of Shepreth, which plays host to the Shepreth Willdlife Park, where you can listen to professional animal talks, experience close encounters with a variety of animals and grab a bite to eat in the Jungle Café. You are within easy reach of the ancient city of Cambridge, abundant with beautiful architecture, a long history and its imposing university, home to the King's College Chapel, Cavendish Laboratory and the Cambridge University Library, one of the largest in the world.
