  • "Peterborough may not be an obvious holiday destination but the city is surrounded by attractive countryside and pretty villages."

Glinton has to be among the best. Lots of walks in the area; historic churches to explore; good pubs and restaurants to cater for more practical needs and Stamford and Ely an easy drive away. The Barn is a beautiful, well-appointed and peaceful holiday home. Waking up to find horses outside the front door was wonderful.

I mentioned it to the owner but it was still loose when we left. We as people with minor mobility problems found the bath very high and difficult to get in.

  • "Everything about my stay at The Barn was delightful."

The accommodation was spacious and tastefully decorated with two large, extremely comfortable sofas from which you could watch horses in the paddock beyond the French windows. There was a pleasant dining area with a smart round table and the kitchen was very well-equipped with everything you could think of. Complimentary shortbread was a lovely touch. Upstairs the bedroom was also spacious and the bed nice and firm. I like a cool bedroom and the loft windows could be opened wide to air the room, though obviously they could be shut tight if you preferred that. The bathroom was immaculate and there was plentiful hot water. The weather changed radically during the stay but it was equally pleasant to sit in the sunshine on the little terrace earlier in the week and by an open woodfire later on with the wind whistling outside. An admirably well-stocked village shop is just around the corner and The Blue Bell Inn is just across the green from St Benedict's church with its beautiful spire. I heartily recommend the pub. I had dinner there midweek. The sea bass is to die for. The wine list is impressive. Service is prompt and very friendly. Covid-19 preparations at The Barn were thorough, carefully thought through, and easy to understand. I felt perfectly safe throughout my stay. I have stayed in a good few Sykes properties and this was certainly one of the best.

Couldn't leave dog free to roam on the patio but worked out fine anyway. He doesn't bother about other animals which were lovely to see. Would be nice if there was a long mirror but no other thoughts. Thank you so much.

Beautiful little area to sit outside in nice weather with views over well kept grounds and trees and occasionally horses, squirrels and birds too. We were left a few supplies to welcome us including a cake, which was a lovely surprise and delicious too! The owners were around if needed and both spoke to us and were very friendly and kind The village of Glinton is a delight - so pretty and well kept - and the pub only a minutes walk away is wonderful serving great food The village shop was also very well stocked and welcoming and only 5 minutes trot away if that Loads of lovely places to visit all around and good road links too All in all a lovely, if short stay, which we thoroughly enjoyed and felt very much at home - we were really sorry to have to leave! • "Lovely, peaceful cottage and our hosts were most helpful."

It was lovely to see all the animals roaming free and we especially enjoyed the company of the black cat , Moby! There were plenty of places to visit although Spalding, which featured in a visitors ‘ guide, was rather disappointing. However, this was more than made up for by visits to places like Burghley . We would certainly recommend The Barn to any visitor thinking of exploring the area.

  • "Although we were generally very impressed with this property and had a lovely holiday, a few tweaks would have made it perfect:- 1."

The sofas were past their best and were pretty uncomfortable 2. An iron was provided, but no ironing board (the property notes said one could be borrowed, but why not provide one in the first place?) 3. Only 3 cutlery knives were provided, which was mean. The lovely big dishwasher meant we only had to use it for crockery etc. every couple of days, but we had to handwash the knives after every meal. 4. The bedside lights had beautiful, but very impractical beaded shades on them, that let through virtually no light at all. The first night we left the main light on to read in bed, but the next night we had to remove the shades

The property is a gem. It is the most secluded and comfortable place I have ever stayed in. The bed and bedroom were delightful and the bed so comfortable that I never wanted to leave it.
