"Lovely place, warm and cosy."
The owners communication is excellent. They resolved a drainage issue before we even knew it was an issue, so very on the ball with maintenance. Throughly recommend this place.
"The property is spacious and spotlessly clean."
It has lovely views and is very peaceful. The kitchen is well equipped and the lounge is very comfortable as are the beds. Easy to get to Ely and Cambridge (Park and Ride) and there is a local pub. The owner of The Stables, Alicia, is the kindest most generous person who does everything to make your stay special. Can’t recommend this beautiful place highly enough.
"We were a group of 4 adults (2 couples) staying for 3 nights and were very happy with the accommodation."
Clean, warm and the kitchen had everything we needed. We appreciated the welcome box of edibles. We specifically chose this area because we wanted to go to Ely and Wicken Fen. We also enjoyed the local walks.
"Well appointed property, every possible need catered for by thoughtful owner."
Plenty places to visit in area. Being able to sit outside in October heatwave was an unexpected bonus!
"The Stables was a lovely place to stay - so quiet and peaceful."
The accommodation was spacious and exceptionally clean with an unusually well stocked kitchen providing plenty of crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils, etc. Bedrooms very comfortable. Lounge seating wonderfully comfortable and cosy (though a little low for those with mobility issues). Not sure we could think of anything that was not provided. Lots to do with Cambridge only half hour away, Ely on doorstep, lovely walks in fens etc, etc. Finally, very welcoming and helpful hosts. Thoroughly recommended.
"Very polite, friendly, caring and supportive."
We wouldn't have known what to do without their presence at their fen farm residence. They are very selfless ❤ and gives best to their guests. They are really lovely. I will highly recommend them
"We loved our break in this peaceful place Fortunate to see hares and other interesting wildlife just in the field next to the Stables Plenty of fascinating walks close by too in the fens full of butterflies and dragonflies to be enjoyed This is a unique area surrounded by huge cornfields It’s worth a visit for anyone interested in the observing the effects of intensive farming on the environment The Stables is spacious The 4 Beds in the small bedrooms were much too small( probably only for children."
) I had to give the double bedroom to my son Otherwise all good
Hello Janet, We are glad you enjoyed so much of our beautiful wildlife in and around the area. We consider ourselves to be very fortunate to be able to enjoy such a diversity of species I do apologies for the beds, they are standard Single Beds which fit Standard Fitted Sheets etc. I am at a loss. Hey ho, least your son got to enjoy the Super King Bed. Thank you for your feedback. Alicia Property Owner
"Visiting Cambridgeshire after our previous week in the Malvern Hills couldn’t have produced a more different landscape, but the setting was ideal for our interests of countryside walking, discovering local wildlife and visiting National Trust sites."
As usual a single week wasn’t enough, as we discovered more places we’d like to visit as the week wore on, though one day being a complete washout didn’t help matters. Over the week we visited Cambridge, Ely, Wicken Fen, Kingfisher Bridge NR, Devil’s Dyke and Anglesey Abbey, all in close proximity, and all places we’d like to explore further. We found the accommodation to be well suited to our needs, spacious and comfortable for the five of us, the layout works well, and loved the arty decor. With the owners close by it was good to have local knowledge on tap and handy for any queries, the welcome basket was a lovely mix of treats, going down well with the kids in particular. The cottage gardens held plenty of interest if your hobby just happens to be macro photography, and the boy’s interest in insects was well catered for with butterflies and dragonflies galore as well as many bugs in the wilder areas. A stargazing session on one of the clearer nights was incredible compared to back home, and produced shooting stars and satellites galore. All in all a perfect base for exploring with so much around to discover, then to relax on an evening in total seclusion. Thanks for an enjoyable stay.
"A super, well equipped property in a lovely location."
The owners were very friendly and helpful during our short stay. In a great location to explore a variety of places. Just wish we could have stayed longer!
It’s always a pleasure to help our visitors. We are happy to know that even in our very rural location, people are able to have fun, enjoy the super relaxation that we offer and have a fab time in the surrounding area. Many thanks Property Owner
"We had a wonderful stay at the Stables."
The accommodation is very spacious, well equipped and set in lovely open countryside (including a great spot to sit outside and relax too). Great place to visit the local area from (Wicken fen, Ely, Cambridge on P&R) but also lots of wildlife in the garden and with amazing night skies. The owners were very accommodating and helpful throughout the week…. Thank you.
Hi Louise, We’re glad you enjoyed your stay. We are always happy to help and seem to always be able to help with those extra little things people need during their staycation. Property Owner
"We had a wonderful stay at The Stables."
The property was clean, well equipped and the owners were incredibly friendly and helpful. Due to the size of the property, it comfortably accommodated the five adults in our party. Overall, was one of the best properties we have stayed in for some time. The location was ideal for our needs: close to both Ely and the Cambridge Park and Ride in Milton as well as many other places we wanted to visit. We would, without any doubt, return to this property again in the future.
"We had a lovely week at The Stables, Alicia and Steven were helpful and charming, they were not at all intrusive, but on hand if wanted."
Alicia left a generous and thoughtful basket of goodies for us which was much appreciated. The Stables was very spacious as there was just the two of us and was situated in open countryside affording peace and tranquility. Whilst practically everything you would need was provided, it would have been helpful to have a washing machine and wardrobes in the cottage, but the absence of these did not detract from our enjoyable stay.
"As avid wildlife watchers, we can confirm that The Stables is a great place to stay."
Plenty of wildlife in the garden, nature reserves within easy walking distance, and plenty more a short car journey away. The welcome pack was very much appreciated. The owners were very approachable and helpful.
Hello there, Thanks for staying. We’re so glad you made the most of our unusual countryside. Thanks for leaving everything so neat and tidy. We really do appreciate it. Barn Owls, Muntjac, Little Owls, Red Kites, Water deer, Partridge, Pheasant, Woodpeckers. We even have a Bambi this week. Property Owner
"We stayed at the Stables for a week."
It was great to get to Cambridge and Ely. It was a great cottage and Olicia and Steven were more than helpful, especially on the last day when my wife was I'll and had to be taken to Addenbrooks hospital in Cambridge. Olicia, was more than supportive and helpful. A very big thanks.
"We had a lovely stay."
The Stables is very spacious, the kitchen was very well equipped. Although the weather turned very cold, the Stables was very warm and comfortable. From the house we were able to walk to both Kingfisher Bridge Nature Reserve and Wicken Fen and saw a variety of birds. Would happily book it again for another holiday.
"We booked The Stables for its location and because of the positive reviews on the Sykes website."
The price was also low for a week in a holiday cottage anywhere. It is certainly spacious and light, with open views of the surrounding farmland and the owners' garden, which gives a nice setting. The sitting room is enormous and has comfy sofas, and there's plenty of room for a family and lots of luggage. Communication was good and the owners left a very thoughtful tray of food items for us, including gluten free for our son. However, there were downsides which were not apparent in the website details: the bathroom is described as in the middle of the property but it doesn't state that this is a totally internal room, with no outside ventilation nor a fan and that the bedrooms are the far side of the large sitting room so that at night you have to walk through the sitting room to get to the bathroom; the shower arrangement would also be difficult to manage if you had teenagers or young children, and the whole bathroom is in need of refurbishment. The kitchen is also in need of refurbishment, like the bathroom; also the oven wasn't clean and the surfaces and cupboards were sticky in places, with the cutlery and mugs smeary too; despite the reviews on the website it could not be described as "well equipped". The electrics seemed quite dated and there was a shortage of plug sockets. The main bedroom has a lovely matching duvet set and curtains and the mattress seemed comfortable, but the room smelled damp. The other beds had old or at least very uncomfortable mattresses. The website did not mention that the owners' studio forms part of the Stables and there is a locked door to this, which felt a little intrusive in terms of privacy, as there was no key on the Stables side of the door. In hindsight, we should probably have been guided by the low price to modify our expectations, but we have always been very happy with Sykes cottages and our choice was influenced by the positive reviews. However, we would recommend that Sykes check out the property and make the relevant adjustments to the property description.
"A spacious cottage with a particularly well equipped kitchen."
Wonderful hosts who are respectful of guests yet always willing to help. They made us feel so welcome, even decorating the cottage for Christmas. A great location -looking out onto farmlands and minutes from the Wicken Fen nature reserve. We had a great time, thank you Stephen and Alicia. We will certainly be back!
Dear Paula and Ian, Thank you so much. We are always happy to help our guests with anything we can. Bless you for the extra, cute little wool Christmas Decs, they fit perfectly with our crocheted Sea Theme decorations. It’s always lovely to see our return visitors! Property Owner
"Very nice property."
The kitchen was well equipped. The owner was very helpful. Lovely food at pub in village
"A wonderful bungalow, equipped with everything you could ever need."
Set in a peaceful location with easy access to places to visit. The hosts are so helpful and go out of their way to may it a pleasant stay.
"We had a lovely time during our stay at The Stables."
It was very comfortable and everything you could need was available. The cottage was spotlessly clean and more spacious than we had imaged. The owners made us feel very welcome. Thank you. Fokke & Dorothe - the Netherlands
Dear Dorothe and family, How lovely to meet you all. We’re glad you explored so much of the area, there’s so much to do. It was interesting to know - coming from Holland how you were able to charge your Electric Car. Well done. Property Owner
"Our family of 5 really enjoyed our stay at The Stables."
The cottage was spacious and well-equipped, with everything we needed for our stay. The owners were really friendly and gave us useful tips on places to visit. The location was great - a short drive to Wicken Fen, and Ely not far. We enjoyed being able walk to Kingfishers Bridge Nature Reserve - as recommended by one of our hosts.
"Having stayed in Norfolk last year we were looking for a location which was a little closer to Cambridge so that we could visit places we missed, or which gave us access to places that were a little too far away to see last time."
We were also looking for somewhere reasonably close to amenities but which was quiet and remote. A tall order…..but the Stables at Wicken fit the bill perfectly! 10 minutes drive from the picturesque town of Ely, where there is plenty of options for eating, but situated up a side track on farmland, it was a perfect fit. Our hosts (who live close by) were very friendly and accommodating. The cottage itself is a converted barn and is reasonably priced, spacious, comfortable and extremely well appointed. It was an ideal jump-off point for getting to Duxford (the air museum is a must-see), Cambridge and Sandringham (lovely grounds but book in advance). Kingfisher Bridge Reserve, which is walking distance, is also well worth a visit. It proved to be an ideal cottage, in an ideal location, for the two of us. I’m sure we’ll be back!
"We had a truly lovely stay at the Stables Ali and Steven were super hosts going above and beyond to make our stay great."
We were going to a wedding at Willow Grange Farm so the Stables was really handy. Great place surrounded in absolutely beautiful countryside side and really wished we could have stayed longer.
"A lovely place to stay."
Facilities are great, with everything you could possibly need. Beautifully kept and super views over the fields. Very quiet and I saw lots of wildlife.
"Lovely place, great hostess"
"We had an amazing stay at this charming property."
Much bigger than it looks in the pictures which just does not do it justice. Everything pristine clean and comfortable, communication with the owner was fantastic and a special thank you for the goodies you left for us. Would love to return again soon.
"If I could give this property 6 stars out of 5 I would."
It was perfect. It was spotlessly clean, very well equipped, extremely spacious and comfortable and in a lovely place with gorgeous views. I can’t begin to describe how kind and helpful the owner was. Great experience, thank you so much from us all.

Not keen on single light duvet owners lovely and helpful would visit again tv listing g on lounge TV stuck on summer time
The cottage was very comfortable and spacious for our family of 4. The owners were very welcoming and even very kindly got us a few food basics in before we arrived. Great place to stay and would recommend.
"Well placed for visiting Wicken Fen,, Kingfisher Reserve and Ely Owners were welcoming"
"A great place to stay in a wonderful location."
The cottage was perfect for our family of 6 with lots of outdoor space to run around in. Ali and Steve were always on hand with advice on places to visit, things to do and chip shop recommendations. Lovely people!
"Fantastic stay, the cottage is so clean, the owners are so friendly and helpful."
We will be booking again.
"We really enjoyed staying at the stables , it was situated close to 4/5 lovely city's and Towns."
The immediate area is in farm land so at night its extremely quiet and pitch black without light pollution, star gazing is a must.. The bungalow was very equipped, infact I took too many things with us as Ali had provided everything we needed. It's a really warm and extremely comfortable bungalow albeit a little dated but certainly not worn! Ali made us feel really welcome she allowed the kids to pick apples off her many trees ,so we made lovely crumbles. She also brought us pumpkins for the kids as it was halloween. We used Tesco for our food delivery with no problem at all. The bungalow was immaculate, I myself as a domestic cleaner notices every bit of dust , but I was amazed at the cleanliness, the BEST we have ever been too. If I had only one suggestion to make it would be to put a washing machine in, even if it was in the adjoining garage, having 3 children it's a real bonus to be able to do a few loads. Ali would of let us use her machine but I would of felt awkward. A lovely relaxing stay. Thank you Ali
"The Stables was a wonderful place for us to relax and enjoy a family break."
The cottage was wonderfully spacious and cosy and the photos do not represent how amazing a space it is. Both our girls loved it and had plenty of space to play and there was a wonderful box of little toys as well as a bookshelf filled with great books for both them and us. We loved our cosy evenings there; the sofa is an amazing place to chill out. We are so grateful for such a wonderful week in such a beautiful place.
Excellent hospitality. Thanks Alicia for looking after us.
"PHOTOS DO NOT DO THIS COTTAGE JUSTICE!"
It’s absolutely gorgeous! Long stoney driveway. The cottage is huge with 3 double bedrooms. The owners live in the house across the way and couldn’t be more helpful. We had amazing weather when we stayed and the views are just out of this world. The owners had left a lot of things in for us - toilet rolls, washing up liquid etc - we had taken things anyway, but thought this was kind. It was DEADLY silent at night time. Just the perfect home.
"The property is very spacious, with large windows on all sides, so you can appreciate the large fenland skies."
Hosts Alicia and Stephen were very welcoming and provided everything we needed.
"Lovely time at the Stables."
.. great surroundings and lovely hosts who made us feel very welcome...
"Excellent location for our needs."
The owners were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble . We were made to feel very welcome.
"Excellent accommodation, and great value for money."
Was very pleased with our stay.
"The premises was clean accommodating and homely the owner met us on arrival and gave us a bottle of wine which was a nice touch."
Gave us a guided tour showed us the basics and left us to it thank you Alli. Such a peaceful setting it was warm and cosy and fully kitted out its a 10/10.
"The owner went above and beyond."
Very pleasant. House could really use a washer in the unit. The only draw back was the lack of WiFi. In my case traveling international, this ended up costing me additional money due to no WiFi. I don't have any complaints regarding the property.
"Lovely, spacious and spotless accommodation."
Location was great. We’ve already recommended it. We will certainly return. The kitchen was extremely well equipped. What would make it really amazing ( especially for UK winters!) would be a DVD player and washing machine.
"We had a lovely stay at The Stables - the location is perfect for visits to Ely and Cambridge and Wicken Fen offers a lot of activities for all ages."
The Stables is very spacious and the owners very helpful - they made sure we had what we needed for our late arrival including cereal for the next day! Thank you.
"Nothing that readily springs to mind."
"The Stables was very spacious and there was enough room for 6 of us."
There was a lot of kitchen equipment and crockery and there was enough for us all. Once the heating was on it was warm and stayed warm for the time we were there. The only issue was only 1 bathroom for 6 of us - the property could have benefitted from at least 1 more toilet. The location was great for visiting the fens, Cambridge and Ely and was only a short distance from Wicken Fen nature reserve. It was very quiet and great for watching birds.
"House was spotless and extremely well equipped."
Lovely warm rooms and comfy beds. Perfect space for a family get together.
"Great base to stay for Newmarket."
Lovely and clean but no washing machine?
"The Cottage is very spacious and comfortable with lots of little thoughtful touches, and the owner was friendly and helpful."
The place is very well equipped for a weekend away and ideal for 5 of us on a University reunion, celebrating special birthdays! Would definitely return. We had a nice meal at the Maids Head Wicken and a trip into Ely which is a pretty town. “The Stables” is quite remote and I’d suggest getting there in the light if possible. An illuminated sign of some kind, on the gate, would be helpful. No WiFi if that’s important to you.
"Lovely welcome , lovely peaceful location."
Just a few miles from Ely , fully equipped spacious bungalow Everthing lovely and spotless, Perfect for a relaxing break. Would not hesitate to Recommend .
"It was very annoying to book based on the booking details confirming that Wifi was included and then be advised after the booking that there was no Wifi."
It made parts of our holiday tricky as I had to keep looking for free Wifi so that I could do my work. Also a bit odd not having a washing machine in the house as we had to give our washing to the property owners to do.
"The address given is Padney and the address was Padney Drove."
It can be a little difficult to find in the beginning as the road sign for Padney is very small and partly obscured by long grass. The cottage is easily found once you have been as the owners have cones on the road side at each side of the gate. The cottage is quite isolated but in beautiful surroundings and with large gardens full of fruit and nut trees. There are many interesting places nearby and a Sunday service at Ely cathedral is a great experience.(parking in Ely is FREE).To go into Cambidge try park and ride from Milton it is less stressful than driving in Cambridge ( Bus passes can be used).
"I found it challenging to get through the 'bureaucracy' at Sykes when we needed the address of the location we had booked and paid the deposit on for UK visa purposes."
I was told flatly NO, by the first two people and only was able to resolve it as I refused to accept the answer. It took far too many international calls and minutes on wait to resolve this issue. The owner was very personable and made arrangements for fruits, bread, cheese and milk for us which was lovely, especially given the cottage is way out in the countryside. A huge plus on move in day after traveling all day. It would have been nice if the location had an extra bathroom, 1 for 6 was a bit hard. However, the place was immaculate and much larger than I expected and very comfortable. I would definitely stay with the family again at The Stables.

"The only concern we had with this cottage was the distance from Cambridge, but it was worth the drive."
17 miles/25 min as the property is so lovely, comfortable and set in countryside with a view for miles. The owners cater for everything. Toys for the children, extras in the kitchen ie kitchen roll, bin bags etc. Beautifully decorated and very very comfortable and homely. Spotlessly clean. Had a wonderful long weekend over Easter with the family with sight seeing in both Ely and Cambridge and then back to relax in peace and quiet. Fantastic pub just down the road called 5 miles to Nowhere!!! on the banks of the river with delicious food. Local village a 10 min drive away had a takeaway perfect for after a long weekend and everyone wanted to just down tools and socialise without the effort. Although the kitchen was well equipped so we could have cooked. Cottage easily slept 6 adults and space for a cot. Met the owner and invited for easter egg hunt with the grandchildren and owner herself was very approachable and lovely Would highly recommend and would definetly return.
"I thought the standard of the accommodation was very high."
This fully met expectations and I was pleased with this and the amenities provided. Thoughtful considerations such as a box of children's toys was appreciated. I would make some suggestions for the property. I didn't not see a WiFi connection and it would be helpful to have a router in place in the property. We also arrived quite late at night and it was difficult to locate the turning into the property on a country lane. It might help to have an illuminated or reflective sign- however, I appreciate it may have been my sat nav which "arrived at destination" some 300m short of the property. However these comments are merely minor improvements on an excellent rental property. I noted from the guest book that several families have had multiple stays and, having stayed there now myself, I can fully understand the attraction
