Cottage is situated in a peaceful rural spot but well placed for exploring the lovely area. Lovely conservatory which overlooks arable land, plenty of wildlife to see from the cottage. Owner Nicky left some lovely welcome gifts including a delicious home made cake, she was very approachable and helpful, making some excellent suggestions for places to visit. I would particularly recommend Gooderstone Water Gardens and Kingfishers Bridge. I have noticed that previous visitors commented on poor tv signal and wifi; we had no problems at all. Excellent cottage, we hope to return
- Mrs Clark, September 2020 -
Mrs Mcminn “Hawthorn Cottage was very cosy and everything we could have wished for was provided!”
(For anyone who enjoys watching TV the signal is very poor but i-player was available to keep us in touch with the news etc. Also a couple of teenagers each with a device would challenge the Wifi)! The sun room used for dining had great views across the Fens and we loved watching the wildlife and garden birds. Within easy driving distance are Ely, Cambridge, Newmarket and St Ives. Lots to explore. Nicky was a super host, very welcoming and attentive to every detail in the cottage. We would certainly book Hawthorn Cottage in the future.
- Mrs Mcminn, September 2020Mr Ellson “Fantastic cottage in great tranquil location, very clean and tidy and dog secure garden.”
Plus an excellent welcome pack of goodies in arrival. The best holiday cottage we have stayed out.
- Mr Ellson, March 2020Ms Steadman “Nice cosy property very dog friendly enclosed garden walks on the door step ...”
Nice cosy property very dog friendly enclosed garden walks on the door step loads to see and do in the area isolated but not remote 10mins from littleport,20mins ely would go again
- Ms Steadman, January 2020Dr Dillon “Lovely holiday.”
The owner was very welcoming and helpful and the cottage very cosy in a great location.
- Dr Dillon, December 2019Mr Haveron “A lovely cottage, very well maintained and very comfortable and only a 10 minute drive from Ely”
- Mr Haveron, September 2019Mr Knight “The owners Nicky and Ian have thought of everything.”
Spotless cottage with first class decor. An excellent welcome package far in excess of expectation. The super cake lasted days. Milk eggs tea bags butter and juice all there for the hirer's arrival. We have stayed all over Scotland, Wales, Ireland and England and this has really been the best. The lovely sunsets are to be enjoyed. Trips to Ely - the river and cathedral - and to Castle Acre are worthwhile. You do not need to bring anything for the kitchen. It is super equipped. Really comfortable beds. Even the terrier was catered with a blanket downstairs, dog bowls and treats in the kitchen. The TV packed up and Ian and Nicky replaced it with a brand new one within hours. Nothing was too much trouble. Safe enclosed back garden. All in all a lovely cottage in a lovely area. Thank you. Stella and Colin. September 2019.
- Mr Knight, September 2019Mrs Collins “Hawthorn cottage was beautifully furnished to a very high standard and everything was provided even teatowels!”
Mrs Gilbert had thought of everything - an amazing welcome pack too. The setting was perfect only 6 miles from Ely but down a quiet lane with views for miles over the fields, very peaceful but easy to get to Cambridge and Newmarket. It was perfect for us.
- Mrs Collins, August 2019Mr Fiddling “We had no complaints with Hawthorn Cottage or the owners.”
We had a lovely welcome pack, the cottage was spotless and had everything we needed. Hawthorn Cottage is in an idyllic location in the open countryside with view of Ely Cathedral in the distance. Perfect!!
- Mr Fiddling, August 2019Mrs Dickins “Hawthorn Cottage was pristine, pretty and perfect in every way.”
It was very comfortable and extremely well appointed with absolutely everything you could need for a relaxing and peaceful stay in the countryside. We especially liked the bird book and nature journal to fill in while watching the wildlife from the conservatory. In short a holiday cottage masterclass.
- Mrs Dickins, July 2019Dr Elsdon “This is a great cottage.”
It's in a secluded location, with a great view, and lovely garden. Most of all it's really well equipped: milk, butter and cake on arrival, plus everything you could need, including dishwasher tablets! The owners are really helpful, and always concerned to check that everything is ok. We'll certainly be back.
- Dr Elsdon, July 2019Mr Pateman “Hawthorn Cottage is in a glorious location with stunning views over the fens to Ely Cathedral.”
It is extremely comfortable and beautifully furnished and decorated. Highly recommended!
- Mr Pateman, June 2019Miss Splint “When we arrived, there was a delicious freshly baked cake, fresh milk, apple juice, eggs and butter awaiting us.”
Wonderfull !!! Very clean house, very quiet rural area. Lovely. Wifi was a bit slow. Nice view, lots of birds around. Highly recommended!
- Miss Splint, June 2019Mrs Needham “This property was very well presented, well equipped kitchen and all very clean.”
The views are great and the garden is lovely to sit in each evening and the conservatory perfect to eat in and look over the garden. For bird lovers plenty to see includong liitle owls nesting nearby. The owner had even supplied some toiletries, bird food, dog treats, poo bags, plenty of logs for the fire, fresh flowers, milk, fruit juice and a fantastic cake and other store cupboard items which made the whole experience thoroughly enjoyable. The only small glitch was that we found the double bed hard, but that is just personal preference. We took our dog who settled down as though he lived there and enjoyed the walk up the lane though we kept him on a lead because of the traffic.
- Mrs Needham, May 2019Mr Bashford “Hawthorn Cottage is situated in a fantastic rural location having extensive views across the east Cambridgeshire countryside - great for bird and nature lovers.”
The property itself was clean, well equipped, beautifully decorated and met all of our needs especially in relation to our elderly Border Terrier Rosie. I would have no hesitation in recommending Hawthorn Cottage to anyone wishing for a quiet stay and hope to stay there again at some point in the future.
- Mr Bashford, April 2019Mr Chadband “We have stayed in many Sykes Cottages over the last several years.”
We think that this was the best yet. The attention to detail in the decoration, facilities and "little extras" was outstanding.
- Mr Chadband, March 2019Mrs Coulthurst “A wonderful setting.”
The views from the cottage were stunning across the fields. The cottage was cosy & very clean. The owner had thought of everything to make the holiday enjoyable for us including the dog! There was an unexpected homemade cake, plus essentials, milk, eggs, butter, on arrival & treats for the dog. The best accommodation we have ever stayed in. Thank you.
- Mrs Coulthurst, October 2018Mrs Allen “We had a lovely week at this cottage thanks to the kind, thoughtful owner who provided everything for our comfort, plus a surprise welcome pack, which included a gorgeous cake.”
The cottage was very clean and tastefully furnished, with lovely views.
- Mrs Allen, October 2018Mrs Hazelton “Great cottage in a quiet location but close enough to nearby attractions.”
Cottage was comfortable and well equipped , and Nicola the owner was very welcoming and provided extras including butter, eggs, juice and a fantastic home made cake. We would recommend this cottage to anyone looking to stay in the area.
- Mrs Hazelton, October 2018Mrs Willoughby-green “Hawthorn Cottage is a delightful cosy holiday home in the peaceful Cambridgeshire countryside.”
The owner is very welcoming and friendly and provides everything you might need and more (including a large delicious home made cake!).
- Mrs Willoughby-green, September 2018Mrs Sharp “A lovely comfortable cottage very clean has everything you require including extras.”
The owner had left us goodies including a fantastic homemade cake which my husband really enjoyed. We could not fault it at all even the garden was beautiful. We took my 88 year old mum with us and she loved the cottage as much as us would recommend it to anyone one of the best.
- Mrs Sharp, September 2018Mr Povey “The quiet, the comfort and the general ambience of the place and location.”
Ideal distance from the town and genuine concern of the owner that we were comfortable. She also made us a fabulous cake!
- Mr Povey, June 2018Mrs Mileman “Other people had commented that Hawthorne Cottage was an extremely well equipped and a cosy cottage and I was confident that in my selection of the cottage I had made the right choice.”
However, I was absolutely delighted that the owner had really the incoming occupant in mind by providing everything that you might need and had not necessarily thought to bring with you. The kitchen was well equipped with utensils and general things such as washing up liquid, cling film/foil and dishwasher tablets that you don't need a lot of but really helps that there are some provided. Kitchen towel was another - I am always looking for it at home and welcomed some being on hand. Other nice touches were the torch in the bedroom bedside drawer and spare bulbs - thank you, even though we did not the bulbs. This speaks of an owner who has gone that extra mile and appreciated the needs of the occupant for as long or as little time as they spend in their property.
- Mrs Mileman, June 2018Mrs Pavey “One of the best holiday cottages I have used, well equipped, comfortable in a great location and dogs allowed.”
Owner extremely friendly and left a generous welcome pack. Hares, deer, pheasants and garden birds all visible from the pretty garden that joins a field. Cambridge, Suffolk and Norfolk a delight to explore, great countryside, fantastic walks and gardens especially the many NT properties / estates. Would definitely recommend this cottage.
- Mrs Pavey, May 2018Mrs Frizell “Never had such a wonderful cottage.”
We were made to feel so welcome. Extremely clean, comfortable and lots of extras - homemade cake, bread, butter, eggs, milk etc. Even dog treats! Brilliant
- Mrs Frizell, April 2018Mrs Gravett “Very comfortable cottage with everything we needed.”
- Mrs Gravett, March 2018Mrs Joslin “The cottage was beautiful and the owners had thought of every detail.”
The cottage felt completely private even though it was semi-detached. The back garden is enclosed and dog-safe. The open views from indoors and outside were lovely. This was one of the best places we have stayed in.
- Mrs Joslin, March 2018Mrs Pearson “This is a lovely cozy and comfortable cottage.”
The conservatory and garden are particularly nice and the bedrooms are really relaxing spaces. Our family enjoyed all the local wildlife and close proximity to Ely and Cambridge. The decor in the cottage is simple and sweet and beautifully put together. You have everything you need and more. The host had arranged many lovely surprises for us on arrival. Highly recommended.
- Mrs Pearson, February 2018Mr Price “The owner was extremely helpful and went out of her way to make us welcome and solve any minor niggles.”
The farmer cropped his sugar beet whilst we were there. Consequently, we were treated to some 400 whooper swans within a hundred yards of the cottage feeding on the shredded leaves.
- Mr Price, November 2017Mrs Barrett “Great dog walking from door.”
Fully enclosed garden. Owner provided excellent starter pack and was really friendly. Owners seemed to have made great effort to provide everything necessary make property comfortable for guests.
- Mrs Barrett, September 2017Mrs Edwards “Its the first time the owner has kept in touch to make sure we were happy with everything.”
We also appreciated the extras she provided for us.
- Mrs Edwards, June 2017Dr Collins “The cottage owner went to extraordinary lengths to make our stay enjoyable, with a welcome cake, bottle of wine.”
The cottage was beautifully decorated and very cosy and the owner checked we had everything we needed. We will certainly go there again.
- Dr Collins, December 2016Mr Huber “Although Sykes cottages informed us before our holiday that the central heating does not work, the cottage was warm and cosy with the mobile electrical heaters.”
The owner Nicky was very friendly and gave us a very warm welcome. The cottage was very clean, the beds extremely comfortable and the towels fluffy. All in all we had a great holiday week!
- Mr Huber, October 2016Mrs Doble “Hawthorn Cottage exceeded our expectations, the description and photos didn't do it justice.”
It is one the best equipped cottages we have ever stayed in and we and our dog were made to feel very welcome with lots of extra touches. We will definitely be recommending it to friends and family and hope to return again to further explore the area.
- Mrs Doble, October 2016Mrs Price “A wonderful welcome with cake, butter, wine and milk.”
Lovely sun room with spectacular sunsets.
- Mrs Price, September 2016Mr & Mrs Howard-Smith “We were overwhelmed by all the little extras provided.”
The cottage is cosy and comfortable the only downside being the downstairs bathroom.
- Mr & Mrs Howard-Smith, September 2016Mr Murphy “Well appointed cottage- enclosed garden for dog and being almost detached in countryside was best thing”
- Mr Murphy, August 2016Ms Hall “The property was very well located, well appointed and included lots of extras.”
The owners have thought of everything
- Ms Hall, August 2016Mr Barnes “We have stayed in many cottages over the years & this was by far the best.”
It's also a long, long time since I've stayed in a cottage where you get really fluffy towels!! The garden was well kept & very spacious with such fantastic views over the countryside & over to Ely cathedral. The free wifi was also very welcome & unexpected! This is a great addition to your collection of cottages & I would heartily recommend it.
- Mr Barnes, July 2016Mrs Muston “A delightful cottage which has been sympathetically restored with many original features.”
We totally enjoyed our 5 days in Hawthorne Cottage and will be back soon.
