  • "We had such a fantastic stay at The Farmhouse."

The host was delightful, the house beautifully finished and we had a wonderful weekend. I was also pleasantly surprised at how well equipped the kitchen was, the general level of cleanliness and the quality of the beds and bedding. We would stay again. Thank you

  • "What a beautiful newly renovated cottage, some lovely touches left for us when we arrived."

Everything was sparkling new, we had a wonderful time. Very central for lots of places to visit, Stamford, ferry meadows, Rutland water and Belvoir castle were a few we visited. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend definitely 5 stars, we didn’t want to go home!

About the location

Stamford 6.5 miles; Peterborough 9.2 miles; Corby 17.4 miles

Wansford, sometimes known as Wansford-in-England, is a charming village resting in Cambridgeshire, in easy reach of the vibrant city of Peterborough. Folklore, alongside Defoe's 'A tour thro' the whole island of Great Britain' (1724), suggest that the name 'Wansford-in-England' derives from the tale of a local man who fell asleep on a hayrick, and when he woke he found himself floating down the River Nene towards the sea. He asked a traveller perched on the riverbank where he was, and upon hearing the reply "Wansford", asked, "Wansford in England?". The Haycock Hotel takes its name from the legend, as well as it making a lovely spot to enjoy fine dining or a traditional afternoon tea. The village also provides a pub, convenience store, garage, Post Office, pharmacy and much more to assist you on your self-catered stay. Explore the historical landmark of Wansford Bridge resting above the flowing River Nene, whilst the Grade I listed building of The Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin is a marvel to be seen. Spend a day in the city of Peterborough, under ten miles away, here you can find the imposing 13th-century Peterborough Cathedral, flaunting a Gothic facade, its very own museum with a reconstructed Victorian operating theatre, fossils and paintings which can be accessed via the wonder of the city's heritage trail, even more eateries to choose from including pubs, restaurants and cafés and wonderful shopping experiences. Visit the historic stone town of Stamford with its stunning architecture, the noticeable filming location of Pride & Prejudice, alongside it hosting a charming atmosphere and a lovely spot to while away the hours amongst its narrow alleyways and hidden courtyards. In reach of Wisbech, Corby and so much more, Wansford is the perfect location from which to explore the East of England.
