“Because of the lockdown there was no point in staying in the property after Wednesday so we only had 4 nights there instead of 7.”

Your advise was we could have stayed but I dispute this was allowable. Regardless what would have been the point of staying with nowhere open and all local walks already done. Would have liked a process to receive 3 nights payment back.

Better than a home from home. Great outdoor space for the kids to play in, and direct access to cycle paths and walks from the doorstep. Wicken Fen has lots to explore, plenty of other local places to visit and nice pubs to eat out. Highly recommend!

“Comfortable stay.”

Made to feel welcome. Our dog loved the big garden. Bungalow furnished to high standard and the owners worked hard to ensure everything was super clean. Welcome pack a little sparse compared with other cottage rentals we’ve had. Consisted of a pint of milk and a few biscuits. No bread. Late notification about building noise locally, which was annoying, and Sykes then failed to respond to my email about it so if I book Bittern Cottage again I will not go through Sykes.

“Bittern Cottage Wicken”

Hi just returned home from lovely 2 week holiday at Bittern Cottage, we all had a great time. Cottage is excellent ( home from home ) garden so peaceful and quiet, our dog spent most of his time outside. Owners Sarah and Graeme were both very kind and helpful. Wicken Fen is on the doorstep, lovely walks, Ely, Cambridge and St Ives are all worth visit. Lovely walk called The Three Churches worth doing, starting at Moulton ( Suffolk ) about 12 miles from Cottage Linda, Andy & Remus ( Newcastle upon Tyne ) July 2017

The property

This beautifully presented modern ground floor property is situated in the village of Wicken in Cambridgeshire, and has pleasant rural views.

This lovely cottage is ideal for couples, friends and families who enjoy excellent walking, nature and cycling with all being available on your doorstep.

There is ample off road parking directly outside the front door which opens onto a hall with both bedrooms, a family bathroom and small utility room to the right.

The two comfortable bedrooms both enjoy a view over the patio and beyond to the back garden.

The main living area is accessed through a fully-equipped, modern kitchen.

The living room offers a spacious area with exposed timbers and French doors opening to the back garden and making this large room a beautifully light space with fabulous views towards the back of the property.

Outside, guests can enjoy a wonderful patio overlooking the enclosed back garden and beyond to the countryside, ideal for a morning coffee while planning your day.

For walkers, nature lovers and cyclists this is a real dream.

There is walking and cycle routes from your back garden using the Sustrans cycle route and the location is close to one of Britain’s oldest nature reserves, Wicken Fen.

The reserve is one of Europe's most important wetlands with over 8,500 species of plants, birds and dragonflies.

There is a wonderful cycle route along the river from Ely to Cambridge and cycle hire is available close by.

There is plenty to do nearby with the National Trust Anglesey Abbey, the stunning city of Cambridge, the beautiful market town of Bury St Edmunds and, of course, Newmarket, famous for its racing.

With so much to do, whatever your interests, you will not want to leave this wonderful cottage in this excellent location, perfect for exploring.

About the location

WICKEN

Ely 9 miles; Cambridge 17 miles.

The land is mainly fenland and the river Cam runs through the area, making this a wonderful location for bird and wildlife. Wicken is home to one of Britain's oldest nature reserves, the first to be cared for by the National Trust. Visitors can enjoy wonderful wildlife, walking and cycling on fenland, farmland, marsh, and reed beds. For cyclist the Sustrans Route 11 runs through the village all the way north towards Kings Lynn and south from Harlow.
