  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Higher Tumrose."

The location was central to explore Bodmin Moor and the coast . There are plenty of walks from the cottage. The cottage is very well furnished, has a beautiful sun room giving lovely views and is very quiet. The kitchen has more than enough utensils to cook for 7 people and more than adqueate dinner service. There is a dishwasher, washing machine and a tumble dryer, however we used the airing cupboard to dry our clothes. A small clothes rack would not have gone amiss. The bunglow is very spacious allowing everyone to have space and beautifully furnished. Comfortable beds were noted and warm bedding for everyone. The hosts were very generous with their time, help and advice on what to see in the area. The free logs for the fire were well appreciated. Thank you for your generosity, Shah Family London

  • "This is the second time we’ve stayed here as a couple."

We appreciate the space in the cottage and the absolute peace and privacy which surrounds the place. The views are wonderful out over the fields, allowing us to identify lots of birds. The cottage is not overlooked at all and it’s surrounded by a beautiful large garden, but the owners live a stone’s throw away so are on hand if needed. We were very grateful for their presence and help early one morning when we woke to find the all electric house had suffered a power cut overnight during a storm! Mr and Mrs L were so kind, offering us breakfast and hot tea and a portable gas stove. They were superb, very friendly and their help was much appreciated. This cottage is warm and cosy, the log burner is wonderful and logs are provided whenever you need them. We feel very fortunate to have found this special place and hope we shall be able to stay a third time.

Although an older property and has some aging features, everything works and provides an excellent base for exploring this area of Cornwall, with easy reach of both coasts. Lovely position with walking from the door to both wooded streamed areas, and the moor. Great village with well stocked local shop, and great local pub serving excellent food at very good prices with a friendly atmosphere. It was quiet and peaceful, beautifully equipped, with stunning views across the fields and woods. Secure and exciting for Rossi and Billy (our 4 legged friends) to explore, and plenty of good walks nearby. The house was spotlessly clean with most attractive furniture that was comfortable and homely. The attention to detail was excellent, and Mr and Mrs Larsen were both welcoming and kind and we enjoyed looking around their interesting Farm. We explored both the Church and the Pub in the Village- both very interesting and well worth a visit! Altogether this was a restful and enjoyable week in an interesting area of previously unknown deepest Cornwall that we will definitely return to as soon as possible. Mike, Annie and Jenny.

Beds were comfortable. We particularly loved our master suite. The village has a very welcoming pub with a small restaurant. The portion sizes were enormous! There is also a small but well stocked community shop. One of the houses nearby sells homemade jams and preserves and a couple of houses sell fresh eggs. A perfect place for our Cornish escape. Our dogs loved the immaculate garden but one did take a leap of faith and had a fabulous time in the field opposite ;) ! A 10 minute stroll downhill brings you to the prettiest village around which has a shop and a welcoming pub serving very very generous portions of good food and an excellent selection of local ales. Short walk to the village and pub does great food with plenty of outside seating. While the property is large with great sized rooms, apart from the bathrooms it needs some TLC and a good clean. Dirty windows, dust on the back of doors and towel rails, dirty sockets in the kitchen and doors need a good clean. I wouldn’t touch the drier and oven! This is the first property we have stayed in where we have felt uncomfortable with the cleanliness.

Thank you for your feedback. I have spoken to the owner regarding the cleanliness issues who will speak to the housekeeper. We have never had any issues of this nature before and there is a regular window cleaner. We are sorry that this impacted your stay on this occasion. Property Owner

  • "The property exceeded our expectations."

The house is all on one level & was amazing & plenty of room for 7 with 4 very good size bedrooms. This is a large property with plenty of space to all be together or have some time away to yourself if desired. Both of the showers were great, especially the main bathroom with the overhead large shower head. The main bathroom has a large bath with central taps too. The conservatory is much bigger than in pics & looks out on to views. The kitchen & main bedroom has the same views at the front of the property. The owners Sheila & Kim were lovely & there was milk & cookies awaiting us on arrival. My mother uses a wheelchair & so the front of the property access is not possible (but I wasn't aware of that from the Sykes site until I read the reviews), However, on reading the reviews I phoned the owner & she was extremely helpful & said there was access around the back of the property over the grass & we did not find this a problem at all, there is just a very slight bank & you can park car at the back access as well. (at the front there is also an old way in which is just 4 steps in between fir trees but this is not currently used but could be possibly in the future if the owners wanted to open up property for the disabled & put a lift in there). There is another review on here about slippy steps to the front of the property but these are made of granite & were not slippy in the slightest & not sure if granite can get slippy - I didn't think so, but all was good with both existing access ways to the property. The property views exceeded expectations & were amazing. Such a peaceful place with stunning views. There is everything you could possibly need at the property, very well equipped kitchen, hairdryer, iron, ironning board, laundry basket, washing line, pegs, bbq, even found a bucket & spade! in porch

Higher Tumrose is a very cozy, but spacious bungalow. The large lounge has the best wood burning stove I’ve ever used - so easy to light. There was plenty of equipment in the kitchen. Everything worked although the appliances are a bit elderly (the microwave is small). The beds were very comfortable too. The downside; the main bathroom shower was little more than a dribble which meant queuing for the electric en-suite one. There are ten steps up to the front door and the paving is slippery when wet. Only a problem if you book the property, like us, with an elderly parent in mind. Bizarrely the sun lounge was a fly graveyard! This aside, Higher Tumrose was a great place to stay for exploring North Cornwall. We loved the pub too - great beer and really friendly.

About the location

BLISLAND

Bodmin 5.7 miles; Wadebridge 8.4 miles; Polzeath 13.2 miles; Tintagel 13.8 miles; Padstow 16 miles; Fowey 17.2 miles.

Situated under the western edge of granite-bound Bodmin Moor, the village of Blisland retains its age old character and is the only village in Cornwall to have a village green with trees. Around the green, cluster old houses and cottages, as well as the famous, award-winning Blisland Inn. The village is located less than three miles from the A30, and so provides an ideal central location for touring Cornwall. Nearby, Poley’s Bridge marks the beginning of the Camel Trail, a 17-mile long route, which follows a long disused old steam engine railway line to Padstow. The route is completely traffic-free and perfect for walkers and cyclists. You can even explore the trail on horseback and a purpose-built hide has been constructed between Wadebridge and Padstow, so even birdwatchers are catered for! Pull on your walking boots and explore Bodmin Moor, or venture to the coast with your buckets and spades and enjoy a day on one of the many beautiful beaches that stretch along Cornwall’s northern coastline. A fabulous part of the country for all!

Note: Sorry, no short breaks
Note: There are ten shallow steps from car park leading to terrace and entrance.
