"We have been taking holidays at Stonerush Lakes now for 10 years."
This year was really disappointing. The original lodges are now tired and require updating. They are no longer 5 star compared to the new lodges at Valley View for example.
1 Millers Island is in such a great location but we were not impressed this time. All the curtains are mouldy and grubby. The shower room also needs a deep clean. We only had one chair on the terrace. The oven does not work. It turns itself off after 10 minutes. We also discovered dirty underwear left in the washing machine. The whole lodge needs a deep clean refresh and update. We will not be returning to Stonerush Lakes.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we are sorry your experience this time was not what you expected, we have scheduled a refresh, re-grouting of the shower, new curtains have been ordered. The oven has been checked and is in working order. To confirm that there is a table and four chairs on the decking, with a separate small table and chair. Property Owner

"We are NOT complainers and generally try and make allowances, but having stayed at Stonerush lodges a number of times this was definitely a most disappointing experience."
On arrival the decking was covered in mud and green slime, the glass windows and doors were all filthy, the glass balustrade caked with green algae and the lodge is a bit tired, shabby and would benefit from a major spruce up and deep clean.
As the evening progressed, we found tatty bathrobes – one with no loops and one with no belt, and a bitterly disappointing and unusable 30-degree hot tub.
On turning to a bath alternative, I stubbed my toe badly on an up-turned floorboard in the bathroom and was unable to drain the bath as the plug had jammed and the mechanic had broken thus rendering the bath unusable too!
Having booked for a week, as the weather turned, we called it quits and headed home after three days. On departure the gutters were all blocked and water was pouring over the path when loading the car – a very watery experience! When these issues were raised with the managers the response was not helpful!
Stonerush is generally a nice site and there are plenty of lodges to choose from – just don’t pick this one!

"Wasn't clear as to where to leave rubbish or linen upon departing as there was no big bins signposted anywhere, there was no welcome when we arrived so it took us a while to find where we needed to park, the car space was swampy."
My partner got a rash from the hot tub not being fully cleaned and there was rubbish under the bed (a toothbrush package that wasn't ours). Also the decking and glass screen needs a good jetwash but overall it was a lovely location, really tidy and comfortable place to stay in and all facilities offered in the ad were available.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments and are glad you enjoyed your stay overall we agree the location is lovely. The decking and glass area have now been jet washed there is a build up over the winter period due to the wet conditions. In the lodge there is an information folder which provides as much information as possible including disposal of rubbish. The Reception and Old Mill now have regular opening times. Property Owner

"First impressions were good on arrival but a chalkboard outside the bar/restaurant saying check in was after 4pm to the lodges no sign of anyone apart from a maintenance guy in his van."
The inside of the lodge first impressions seemed fine. On looking round the lodge we had a dripping tap in the kitchen and a chipped breakfast bowl further inspection around the lodge we came across the silicon sealant had come away from the tiles and shower tray. We reported this to reception by email who came to look at the problem the same day and we were told it needed to be fixed but couldn't do anything while we were staying in the lodge and it would be rectified on our departure so we couldn't use the main shower for our stay. Why the dripping tap couldn't be fixed we fail to understand we left two days early as the dripping was beginning to annoy us and seemed no one was that bothered to sort it its a shame as the area was lovely

"This was listed as luxury however the outside decking area and furniture was just shocking."
We booked this for 3 people and the additional outside comfortable chair was a sorry yellow sun lounger. The outside wooden table was covered in moss and stained clothes when sat on it, there were brown leaves all around the hot tub clearly this had not been swept for some time. One of the outside chairs was broken and had sharp rusty elements to it which if not seen could cause a nasty cut. I do think that when advertising the cabins they should really represent what you are paying for.

"The lodge itself was clean, comfortable and spacious and had everything needed for our stay."
Its in a perfect position nicely tucked away over looking the lake and felt very private, we had a much needed relaxing holiday with 2 teenagers and 2 dogs. The outside decking area is dog secure which we were happy about as one of our dogs is a jumper. The grounds are lovely and we had some lovely walks around the lakes,
The only minor things that let it down was the outside furniture was very tired looking , there was leaves all over the decking making it look very untidy and we had to use the shower in the en-suite as the plug wouldn't open in the main bath.
But over all a very relaxing stay and are thinking of returning

"I booked 1 Millers Island as a 70th birthday gift to my husband."
We had not only endured a very long lock down but had also both suffered health issues during this time as well. So this was such a welcome break and when we arrived we found that we had been upgraded, so actually stayed at 3 Valley View which was absolutely beautiful.
We both really chilled out and although the weather was not at its best we really enjoyed our break, we used our hot tub every day and enjoyed our evening meals overlooking the lovely green valley and every morning during breakfast we watched the cows coming across to graze.
We went out every day to different places and felt like we were coming home to a lovely warm comfortable lodge at the end of the day!
Before we left my husband enquired if there were any vacancies during the summer months to bring the family for a break, but unfortunately everything was booked up.
We will come back at some point I’m sure and I would recommend to my friends and family to look you up too!
Ps. Even our small dog loved it and settled in very easily☺️

"We had a great relaxing 3 night break at 1 Millers Island."
As the review numbers suggest we couldn’t really fault the property. It was very well presented on arrival and the whole booking/arrival process very easy and efficient. In the current Covid focused world the property felt safe and certainly the polar opposite of the busy crowded tourist hot spots. Our advice would be get there early before the crowds as you shouldn’t miss seeing the fishing villages. It’s a good location for visiting Looe, Fowey, Charlestown and Polperro. Some of the narrow roads aren’t for the faint hearted but that’s all part of the charm of Cornwall.
However there a couple of points I feel should be raised. The glass around the deck has been what I would describe as half heartedly cleaned (jet washed) in an attempt to remove the algae. I have taken photos but can’t find a way to attach them. The silicon in the shower had a small amount of mould which we easily removed with some Dettol mould and mildew remover spray, I must add it wasn’t dirty in anyway, just stained. Then lastly, the hot tub is a great feature and very nicely incorporated into the deck. It is a welcome addition after a day of walking the coastline and villages. But the power does leave a little to be desired but still a pleasant soak.
These comments shouldn’t distract from the property as is it fantastic and the Stonerush Lakes Estate is lovely and the Mill pub very enjoyable.

"We loved it here at 1 Miller’s Island."
It was our first time staying at Stonerush Lakes and it was perfect for us as a couple with 2 dogs. It was spacious, quiet, private and the large enclosed decking area was dog secure which we were pleased about. Lovely and peaceful site, despite the number of lodges located around it didn’t feel cramped at all and had lots of privacy. 1 Miller’s Island was nicely tucked away, very relaxing, overlooking the lake every morning was glorious. Walks around the lakes were lovely and again dog friendly with plenty of bins situated around. Car parking space was right outside the lodge which was handy. The hot tub was very nice, tucked away in the corner of the decking area overlooking the trees and lake. The Old Mill restraunt was throwing distance away, but we didn’t get a chance to try it out unfortunately, despite it being right next to us we never heard any noise. Ideally situated within a 10/15 minutes drive from Looe, Fowey and Polperro which was great. Only minor negatives we had during our stay was that the glass panelling around the decking was mucky and needed to be cleaned when sat on the sofa overlooking the view this was cloudy, the bin lid in the kitchen was broken on arrival and we couldn’t open the plug in the main bathroom’s bath so used the en-suite instead throughout our stay. We can’t wait to come back and would definitely recomend to anyone looking for a tranquil and relaxing break. Thank you!

"We had a wonderful holiday ~ thank you, a stunning place to be amongst nature ..."
We had a wonderful holiday ~ thank you, a stunning place to be amongst nature and so many trees, 1 Millers Island was beautiful and so clean with everything you would need, someone came to check on the hot tub water everyday which was really nice, but you only saw him briefly and often wouldn’t know he had been there, but reassuring to know he had been ~ to make sure the hot tub was clean and the water perfect for you to use, and we did use the hot tub everyday ~ we loved it, we slept so soundly too, my only things would be that although there was chairs to sit on on the deck these didn’t have cushions and were quite hard on your bottoms to sit on for long, so a lovely rattan type corner seating area with cushions would have been nice, the deck didn’t look like it had been swept before we got there although there was a broom provided ~ it wasn’t unclean but it did look a little messy with leaves, the sofas were really comfortable too but perhaps some cushions would have been lovely to add a more cosy feel, and the wood on the outside of the lodge did look rather dry from the sun and weather, but theses are small points as the comfort, cleanliness and little touches were lovely, and we really didn’t want to leave, thank you for a lovely holiday we can’t wait to come back again
Thank you for your comments, new garden furniture and sofa cushions will be in place shortly. Leaves are monitored on an ongoing basis. We hope you return soon to Millers Island Property Owner

"The lodge, facilities and location was lovely."
The hot tub was fantastic as was the view across the lake from our decking. The only thing which spoilt the holiday was the mattress in the main bedroom. It was lumpy with ridges and uncomfortably. We would not book this lodge again unless the mattress was changed. Otherwise it was a lovely peaceful holiday.

"Amazing lodge, well equipped."
Very clean. Lovely setting and hot tub. Take away from bar very good. However......double mattress was very uncomfortable. Very hard and you could feel the grid of the metalwork inside the mattress when you slept (or not as in our case). This made for very little sleep for either of us. Really needs changing, would love to stay and recommend to others again, but that would put us off doing either unfortunately. Please let us know if this changes as would book again in a heart beat. Single mattress was comfortable apparently!

You wouldn’t know the place existed until you venture into the valley. Certainly is a hidden gem. Staff were very helpful and welcoming at checkin.
