  • "Just a shame the restaurant was closed on arrival."

We had travelled a long way and being around 5pm it would have been the easiest solution for us with a young child. We went to the Jubilee Inn in Pelynt which was great. We didn’t both with the on site restaurant and bar after that.

Thank you for leaving your great review, the Old Mill Bar and Restaurant have regular opening hours which are shown on our website, it was unfortunate that on the day you arrived the Bar was open but Restaurant was closed for the evening. Property Owner

  • "What an amazing find."

When looking at the site and picking the lodge for us we read some of the negative reviews but so glad we went ahead and booked. Perfect location, stunning surroundings and the Lodge was just fantastic, stocked with everything you could want for a break away from it all (apart from the oven gloves - which we took ourselves after reading a review - Thank you). We had two takeaways from the restaurant - highly recommend, great service, very friendly staff and fantastic food. All in all a peaceful "get away from it all" break, star gazing in the hot tub, watching the wildlife, could not have asked for more. Our only regret is that we didn't book for longer. we will most definitely be back (and for longer next time!)

We agree the location and surroundings are stunning and are so glad you had a fantastic stay with us. The hot tub is always a bonus when you can relax and look into the sky. Thank you for your recommendation and look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "We've stayed in this property previously and loved it so much last time we decided to return."

We enjoyed it just as much the second time round and can't wait to return again in the future. The lodge is perfectly located in a beautiful peaceful setting surrounded with wildlife and bird song. The sofas are super comfortable and ideally situated to make the most of the beautiful views across the lake. The whole lodge was cosy and comfortable and had everything we needed and the hot tub was lovely to relax and unwind in after a day of exploring. This accommodation really has it all and to top it off the restaurant on site is also fantastic, the food is freshly prepared and delicious and the staff are very friendly and cannot do enough for you.

Thank you so much for your great review, we are glad you enjoyed every aspect of your stay, it is always a boost to have positive comments. We look forward to welcoming you back again in the future. Property Owner

I'm so glad I got to come and when my mum is better I'd love to bring her here, it's absolutely stunning and so well presented. The only 1 thing for me is the clear glass in the bathrooms, I think if the glass had frosting stickers or something it would be better just because the toilet so so close to the window. Other then that it's absolutely stunning, I could live there!!

Thank you for your fantastic feedback, we are glad you enjoyed your stay, hopefully you will return in the near future. Property Owner

  • "This is our fourth visit to stonerush lakes, second stay in this lodge."

Heating broke down again during our visit (happened last time) which meant freezing night and no hot water until the reception opens. With no phone signal it's REALLY annoying you have to walk or drive to reception! Water leak under the sink that we cleaned up. Door catches broken to living area, difficult to use and frightened they would break completely so never used one of the doors. Fridge shelf broken, nearly lost our Birthday Champagne! We have stayed in many sykes accomodations now. We love the tranquility of Stonerush and the fact that the lodges are very private. Hot Tub worked well. I do think you should leave a few basic kitchen items for Guests to use. We have had some lovely hampers left for us at some accomodations but never here.

  • "We had a lovely stay at this lodge."

However there was dog poo left in the little garden which was a bit off putting. Also some of the cups were dirty when we arrived but think this is due to the dishwasher not being too good. Overall we did have a really good time but the cleanliness could be improved.

  • "We had a lovely holiday, loved the lodge and this is now our favourite lodge at Stonerush Lakes out of the three that we have now stayed in."

Lots of nice touches... Having said that we found the fridge and oven were minor bugbears. We chose not to eat out every night and having no instructions to operate the oven was a nuisance as it seemed that it was set on some kind of timed programme setting, which no matter how many times we tried we couldn't defeat! The only way that we could get it to switch on was for a presumed 1hour 30mins programme. Obviously we could work around this, but it was fiddly and instructions would have helped. The fridge is missing the shelves from the door, which limits how much you can get in there. . The fridge door wasn't shutting properly when we first got to the lodge, but this was resolved during our stay.

Generally a little bit tired and in need of a refresh, not 5 star.

  • "We had a lovely stay but were disappointed that nobody helped when we contacted the property hours after leaving to say our daughter had left over £100 worth of makeup in the wardrobe."

Would have given 5 stars otherwise. We know it was our fault leaving items behind but it wouldn’t have taken much effort for them to have responded to us and sent the makeup to us. Obviously we would have paid the costs but nobody got back to us despite numerous contacts. Disappointing end to a lovely holiday.

  • "Absolutely stunning location and holiday home, can’t for the life of us understand why it got such a slating in one really unhelpful review we read just before leaving for this holiday!"

The place was spotless, well equipped, quiet, secluded and just perfect. We spent a little more than we usually do on a week’s accommodation but this was worth every penny! We’d love to return one day.

  • "The setting of this lodge was so beautiful it was just luxury and total tranquility."

The lodge was spotlessly clean and tidy and had everything you could possibly need during the stay. The site itself was also beautiful and relaxing with no noise just wonderful bird song. Having a bar and Restaurant on site was an added bonus and we ate out at the Old Mill twice during our stay. We cannot praise the staff enough they were so helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We cannot wait to visit this place again.

  • "The cottage cannot be considered luxury, the word is very much misused."

The sofas are not in a good shape, there was only one washing kit in one of the bathrooms, the other one had nothing, it did however have a damaged tap so it was quite tricky to use. No spare toilet paper, only one roll in each bathrooms, no tissues anywhere. The twin bedroom door is in desperate need of oiling of the hinges, we had to leave it open during the night or it would have woken up everyone with the horrendous screeching. There is no cover outside for the hot tub or at least a screen between it and the path, basically if we would have wanted to use it (impossible when it was pouring down with rain anyway) we were literally near the walking path given its location. We have spent the previous week at a cottage in south Cornwall and this was such a step down in quality and service, I couldn't be more disappointed.

  • "Upon making the booking the on site restaurant was advertising outdoor dining from 12th April as per Government guidelines which is one of the reasons we chose the lodge as we wanted somewhere to relax with a restaurant within walking distance so that we didn't have to leave the site, drive or cook."

When I emailed to book in for dinner I was informed that the restaurant was not opening until the 17th May. I contacted Sykes who offered us a refund but we decided to keep the lodge because of its stunning location. When we arrived the lodge had a seal on the door to say that nobody had entered the accommodation since it had been cleaned however we were disgusted to find that the kitchen was filthy. The worktops, appliances and in particular the microwave had food splattered over the inside and I could write in the dust on top, this put us off using it. The fridge had a broken shelf. The carpet to the master bedroom was ripped. The outdoor furniture needs replacing, the recliners were old & rusty, the seats in the rattan sunk/dipped and the cushions were dirty. The two tables looked like they hadn't been cleaned for months and the decking needed a good sweep. We did not expect to start our holiday off by having to clean! We took photos as evidence. Apart from the negatives above we couldn't fault the rest of the lodge or the location as it was so tranquil and we had amazing views of the lake and hills. We seen so much wildlife and birds we hadn't come across before. We went for a walk around the site which was beautiful as there's other lakes and streams to see. We received a welcome pack consisting of washing up products, tea, coffee & biscuits which was a nice touch. The bed was comfy and we definitely made good use of the hot tub which was temperature checked on a daily basis by the maintenance team. Overall a we had a great time but were disappointed by the cleanliness.

I am sorry to hear about the cleanliness of the lodge. I have taken this up with the site owners and action will be taken as soon as possible. The carpets have now been replaced in both bedrooms. New garden furniture has been ordered. Thank you for informing me of problems, breakages etc as I do replace items as soon as I am informed. Property Owner

No instructions for dishwasher and other amenities. Kitchen counters very water damaged.Need to upgrade tv package. Outlook fantastic and very comfortable but does not make up for the problems we experienced. Needs money spent as very tired property.

About the location

Pelynt 2 miles; Looe 5 miles; Polperro 6 miles.

Lanreath is a village in southeast Cornwall, five miles west of Looe. Lanreath is rural in character with a local shop and Post Office as well as a parish church. There are a number of ghost stories associated with Lanreath. The best-known features a ghost in black driving a coach pulled by a headless horse. Nearby Pelynt is home to a parish church, a number of local shops and pubs, especially the Jubilee Inn, which was an original farmhouse dating back to the 16th Century. Looe is Cornwall’s second largest fishing port and hence there is always a lively maritime bustle around the quay area of East Looe, which is connected to the quieter West Looe by a seven arched 19th century bridge over the River Looe. The sandy Looe beach adjoins the pier and is very popular with families because of its safe shallow swimming and vast expanse of sand. Polperro is a little further away and is a historic fishing village nestling at the head of a long valley leading down to the sea. With plenty of areas to visit, Lanreath is a quiet, pleasant place offering easy access to the coast, the moors, National Trust properties and Cornwall's famous gardens.
