4 Water's Edge overlooking smal lake - excellent place for morning coffee. Private and peaceful. With our 2 small children we had a lovely stay

  • "A fabulous lodge in perfect surroundings."

Exactly as described in brochure. Wonderful to wake up and hear nature on the doorstep. Enjoyed breakfast on the decking overlooking the lake. Comfortable bed, Relaxing in the living room with large screen tv and Netflix in the evenings. The only minor challenge was being unable to get bedroom tv to work - but not a bad thing! We shall return to this idyllic place.

Thank you for such a fantastic review, we are glad you found the surroundings to be perfect and were able to relax during your stay. We look forward to welcoming you back. Property Owner

It’s about 7th or 8th time we’ve stayed here. It’s always been top class. Maybe it was the power outage but the service wasn’t to its usual standard.

We are sorry to hear that your experience was not a good one this time, we take on board your comments and do hope that you would return again to stay with us. Many thanks for your feedback. Property Owner

  • "We had a really lovely break, up until the last night."

The food was exceptional, the service was also great. However, we had gone out for the day and the heating failed. Initially showing that the pressure had been lost. We asked reception who advised that the maintanance team had already left for the day. We were given a 24hr call out number, which said they would try to help. Then they too could not get anyone to visit. It was a very cold evening and we had no heating or hot showers. Maintanance appeared as we were leaving only to say that there was indeed a fault and they would get it fixed during the day. Other than that we would highly recommend the site, the staff and the food!

  • "Having previously stayed at 6 Stonerush Valley and been wowed by the cleanliness, facilities and overall ‘new’ appearance of what was obviously an established lodge we were expecting much of the same from 4 Water’s Edge."

How disappointed were we. Joyce and Alan’s reviews sum up pretty much what we found and this is really sad considering that these comments were made as long ago as 12 months and as recently as 2 months ago. The sink is still not working, the cracks remain as does the mould and leaking rusting towel rail. The master bedroom bed has put me of memory foam mattresses for life, and the damaged blinds in the same room did nothing to add to the overall appearance. Add to this the lounge light that only half worked, simply for the want of a new bulb, the rug that needs to be thrown out, or really intensively cleaned, the sofa cushions that have seen far better days, a coffee table that would not have looked out of place in a student digs and walls that need a good lick of paint. The lodge feels tired and unloved and in much need of a very big dose of TLC to bring it back to a standard that I would expect from a site that promotes itself on offering ‘luxurious holiday lodges’. Back to number 6 next time methinks.

En-suite shower badly leaks, basin cracked and plug doesn't work. Outside furniture tired and decking starting to give way. Not anywhere near up to the standard of No.1 which we stayed at earlier in the year and are going to again in November. Enjoyed our holiday nevertheless!

  • "Lovely lodge in a very tranquil location."

We enjoyed the hot tub and eating on the balcony whilst watching the wildlife on the lake. We would definitely go back. The only improvement we recommend is a really good clean and some general maintenance for the lodge.

  • "My partner and I stayed at Watersedge back in June 2021, travelling in Covid times is always daunting but the lodge was wonderful, super clean, had all the facilities we needed and allowed us to stay quite contained and yet have the most fabulous holiday."

The lodge was modern. well equipped and well maintained. The veranda over the lake and the hot tub were really really special. We used this as a base for a walking holiday and so to come back to somewhere each evening to relax was a treat. I would recommend this lodge to anybody for their holiday. We ate in the restaurant on our last night and this was of good standard and reasonably priced. The only point to mention is that (unsurprisingly for Cornwall) is down a very narrow and windy lane. East to find, great location and a lovely holiday.

  • "Lodge is in need of update as is very tired, mattress is lumpy and uncomfortable, ensuite has black mould in several places on ceiling, the catch on main bathroom door doesn't work so difficult to shut door, shade on lamp in living area broken and dirty, rug in living room needs cleaning."

Despite having a very detailed email from Sykes advising all cushions, throws, games etc would have been removed by owner, these were still in place, in view of current situation didn't feel comfortable about this, so put them in spare room during our visit. Previous guests had not checked plates etc when removing from dishwasher so we found plates with curry and rice dried on, and dirty saucepan. The one plus is the Stonerush cleaning and maintenance team who appear to be run with military precision and each lodge has it's own bedding, tea towels and cleaning cloths delivered in sealed bags to outside of lodge on changeover day, 10 out of 10 to them, thank you. The lodge owner 1 out of 10, and that's being generous. We have stayed at other lodges on this site so will be returning to them.

  • "We had a lovely week stay at 4 Water Edge and would definitely recommend it."

We loved the site and was peaceful, well maintained site and quiet. It was within easy reach of places to visit in the car. We sadly did not get chance to use the onsite restaurant as it was booked during our stay. We would definitely return and stay again at this property. It was well stocked although a few more cups and plates would be good to save having to put dishwasher on so much. The tin opener was missing but this was soon replaced by onsite staff. On the whole the cabin was clean and tidy although we did find a couple of items from a previous visitor which is a bit of shame in the current climate. Having the hot tub was lovely and this was clean and well maintained during our visit and we made good use of this. Was lovely to sit watching the ducks and fish from the hot tub. The en-suite shower could do with fixing as this leaked everywhere. We will definitely be back and have already recommended this place to some friends and family.

E stale smelling very grubby looking and at these very difficult times with COVID I was not entirely sure how clean the lodge actually was, even though it looked very clean (had that feeling lurking the whole 7 days) The lodge itself and the surroundings were spot on Although the balcony decking surrounding over the lake was patched up you could not take your eyes of my grandson and it did say this lodge was child friendly I would use skyescottages again though

  • "The lodge is located in a very pretty secluded location in the middle of nowhere."

It is situated on the edge of a lake surrounded by trees for privacy. The interior is modern with good quality furnishings and kitchen appliances, although the master bedroom mattress is in desperate need of replacement. Outside there is a lovely decking area (although not totally secure for dogs) where you can feed the fish, ducks and birds. The hot tub is private but again needs attention as many of the jets are broken but it was clean and hot. There are walking opportunities and our dogs loved their walks. There are no local eateries and the nearest shop is some distance away so we ate in the on-site restaurant on five occasions. We sampled most of the ‘specials’ on offer which didn’t change during the week we were there. The starters and mains were generally of excellent quality, beautifully presented and reasonably priced; however many dishes were served with chips, another option would be welcomed. The steak is the best we have tasted. There is a limited takeaway option for those that would like to eat in their lodge. Unfortunately the restaurant was let down by the dessert menu. Although stunning in appearance I believe they were frozen bought in offerings, lacking flavour and expensive for what they were. They remained in the display cabinet for many days so a little off-putting. This is a lovely retreat if you want total peace and tranquillity and like travelling.

  • "Lovely accommodation, very spacious, very peaceful beautiful view of lake but could do with the trees cutting back a bit as they blocked the sun."

Facilities were excellent, hot tub, my only improvement recommendations would be to change the bed mattress as it was very uncomfortable. I think the windows needed to be cleaned also. This was a fantastic holiday for the week and lovely for the dogs with lots of walks and places to go near by. If the above recommendations were improved we would book this cabin again, because it really was a lovely peaceful place.

  • "The lodge was beautiful very spacious and everything was clean."

There was lots of thing provided in the kitchen which is always realy good as this is something I have found a problem in some self catering places. The view from the balcony was better than the photos and so peaceful and relaxing. The neighbors were not too far away but the balcony was realy private and not at all overlooked. I took my dog with me and walked around the site a few times during our stay and the whole place was realy beautiful and peaceful I will definitely be staying again and have already had lots of friends asking where it was from some of the photos.

The hot tub along with the waterfront location was out of this world and so quiet and relaxing! The accommodation was really good, clean to a standard however there could be further cleanliness to go the extra mile. By no means dirty, but cobwebs in ceiling, rug in the living room needed cleaning and under the sofas needed a good clean. Also there were no oven gloves, which came with its own problems. Also the en-suite shower leaked out around the door, which in turned had stained the wood around the bathroom. The onsite restaurant was out of this world. We turned up the week the menu had changed, but the food was outstanding, anyone visiting should definitely give this place a try, odd that it shut on a Sunday though! 8/10

About the location

Pelynt 2 miles; Looe 5 miles; Polperro 6 miles.

Lanreath is a village in southeast Cornwall, five miles west of Looe. Lanreath is rural in character with a local shop and Post Office as well as a parish church. There are a number of ghost stories associated with Lanreath. The best-known features a ghost in black driving a coach pulled by a headless horse. Nearby Pelynt is home to a parish church, a number of local shops and pubs, especially the Jubilee Inn, which was an original farmhouse dating back to the 16th Century. Looe is Cornwall’s second largest fishing port and hence there is always a lively maritime bustle around the quay area of East Looe, which is connected to the quieter West Looe by a seven arched 19th century bridge over the River Looe. The sandy Looe beach adjoins the pier and is very popular with families because of its safe shallow swimming and vast expanse of sand. Polperro is a little further away and is a historic fishing village nestling at the head of a long valley leading down to the sea. With plenty of areas to visit, Lanreath is a quiet, pleasant place offering easy access to the coast, the moors, National Trust properties and Cornwall's famous gardens.
